David Bailey: Four beats to a bar and no cheating

This is a great DVD about a great photographer.  The Bruce Weber segment is particularly good.

These Arte Edition DVDs are so good but I wish they were more easily available on iTunes.

I bought this at Colette in Paris.  Maybe it’s available on the Colette website?

ps. if you have a chance catch the David Bailey Stardust exhibit in London till June 1st, 2014

Bill Cunningham: Facades at New York Historical Society

I found this book about a year ago at BOOKMARC in the West Village.  It was kind of expensive but it was the one and only time I’ve ever seen it.

Notice that it was published by Penguin! My publisher! They seem to have a thing for street photographers.

Guess what, now this book is the basis of an exhibit in New York.  Below is the official information.

In 1968 Bill Cunningham embarked on an 8-year photography project to capture the story of Periodic fashion with New York’s historic architecture and aptly named this project “Facades”.

In 1978 “Facades” was published as book, and 4 decades later is now a beautiful exhibition at the New-York Historical Society running through June 15.

‘Bill Cunningham: Facades’ is a collaborative work between Ms.Editta Sherman’s collection of well-archived vintage clothes as Mr. Cunningham photographed her on the streets in New York, ensuring the clothes relate the locations exemplifying the period, ranging from the late 18th century to the 1950s.

Mr. Cunningham donated most of the 88 gelatin silver prints to the New-York Historical Society when the book was completed, which can now be seen at the exhibition.

A must see if you love New York, Fashion, Architecture or Photography…or all!
