Pitti Uomo has become synonymous with well-dressed men standing around, chatting with each other, smoking cigarettes, talking on the phone…doing anything besides work.

However, what we are capturing in these photographs is the real work that’s been done at Pitti Uomo. It’s fun, grueling, challenging, rewarding and it’s what makes the business of men’s fashion happen.

On my last day at Pitti Uomo, I decided to capture these ” behind the scenes” shots when actually, this is the whole reason for the scene that is Pitti Uomo.

Lovely image! This simple shot truly captures the essence of menswear. Scott if you still have time to read each of the comments, I want to say that I’ve been following your blog since it first began!

this is so much better than dudes and chicks standing around “looking” “cool” on their way from one place to another. more more more of this — real people doing real things.

I agree! Real people doing real things, and looking good as a by-product.

Somehow these images really capture men at work, having a serious discussion, being so very passionate about their work… I really loved to see these, it’s something you don’t get to see often and you captured it so well Scott! Is is very very well done, and the colors are absolutely stunning!

I have been to Milan for fashion week but never Pitti Uomo. Seeing these photos reminds me of why I started my blog in the first place, and I feel a bit of shame for being so far removed from it now. Definitely on my next to do list.
    Thanks for sharing

“grueling, challenging, fun” in this luxurious environment with well dressed co-workers, talking, choosing and making men’s fashion seems very attractive to me.
    Love the “behind the scene.”

I know you are a busy man, but you must must carve out your schedule where you attend Pitti and take lots of photos. It’s my drug and I get cranky when I don’t get my drug fix of your photos from Pitti in June and July!!!!

I’ve always loved getting inspiration from menswear. There’s something very powerful in how well-dressed men combine fabrics and prints that truly inspires me. Obviously, Italians are at the very top of this always! Great image!

I just love that ‘Police Bastard’ jacket, ideal workwear. Great pics Sart, you are so gifted to be able to capture the grueling effort of two guys sat in an armchair looking at a bit of paper. Not sure the one on the arm should be wearing socks though, what do you think guys?..

That’s really nice, to actually make a portrait of real life, and real stylish people at work.
That’s a lot more inspiring than i thought.
What happens is that you can separate yourself -and not identifying so much – from this people in pictures because they are so glamorous and stylish in that moment of bright cool attitude.
That should and must be there at work as well.

    Scott –

I truly appreciated this post. I am working as a sales associate at Gap to help pay my way through fashion school. Looking at your blog makes me long for the fashion editor life of drinks, cigs, and posing for pictures – sometimes Gap seems worlds away from this. However, your picture of the stylish man folding clothes reminded me that we create our own glamorous moments through how we perceive our lives. I should carry myself with the same amount of poise and style in the fitting rooms at Gap as I would on the streets of Milan. The people in your photos don’t have anything that I lack – Thank you for this reminder.

Thanks for capturing and sharing these, Scott. For years I’ve been visiting your blog, I’d always see photos from Pitti Uomo, but never really understood what it was meant for, or what Pitti is all about. It’s nice to finally glimpse what really happens, and yes, it looks fun and gruelling at the same time.
