Vintage Photos

A photo of my grandfather John on the beach in Sea Isle City, NJ in 1930.  Everyone called him “Chick” – I’ve been told it’s because of his chicken legs!

Great photo…those are probably some of my relatives in the background. My family’s been going to the shore in Sea Isle for generations now. Glad you shared this!

Wow, thank you all for the comments! I can’t believe my photo was chosen to be featured.

My grandfather played basketball at Cardinal Dougherty HS in Philadelphia and worked summers as a lifeguard in Sea Isle. I miss him everyday and the photos I have like this are a treasure.

Thanks to the Sartorialist for a wonderful feature.

i like the imbalance of the heavy jacket with his tiny bathing trunks…. his look is rather pensive as well, heavy for the beach.

Love the look Scot… Your grand’pa had some swagger, he could have fitted in with the rat pack or Jay-Z today, I wonder if he knew anyone from my family who lived Clark, trying to avoid the big house near Rahway BW Robert…

My father attended Roman Catholic High School. Cardinal Daugherty was not opened until 1956.

I love the vintage photo series. It is so funny to see the styles recycle, yet how they change era to era … like this classic varsity jacket and how it evolved.

This is so amazing looking at all the vintage photos. Words can’t express my feelings. Right now I’m smiling widely thinking of people from the old days. So amazing I wish after 100 years I’ll be same interesting as people right here. They look so nice and stylish, wish I was in those days.
