The Screening Room….13 Lessons With Saul Leiter

Saul Leiter has become an icon of New York street photography and yet to me, he was a bit of a mystery (as I think he was to most people). So I was very happy to see this documentary on iTunes that seemed to just pop-up out of nowhere.

It’s not a great documentary, it’s more of a conversation, but it’s still always fascinating to see the simple way an icon goes about his work.

Watching the film I discovered that Mr. Leiter was apparently my neighbor! For 60 years he lived just east of where I live now. It would be great to think that at some point we passed each other out on the street. One of the truly great things about New York – you never know who might be living just down the block.

WOW, he’s amazing! This man is an A-R-T-I-S-T. Rare bird. Thanks for sharing, Scott! This is a man who has faced it all: blood, sweat, tears, joy, bliss. Speechless…. This man LIVED the dark room. =)
