Style Profile… Holli Rogers

Have you always worked in fashion?

I started in the Neiman Marcus buying office which eventually led to my current role as Fashion Director of Net-a-Porter.

Did you have any early influences that sparked your interest in clothes?

My 7th grade science teacher never wore the same outfit twice. That’s always stuck in my head and has encouraged me to dress differently every day.

What do you read to begin your day?

I read The Economist and The Cut for daily updates and love flicking through UK or Australian ELLE DĂ©cor. However, I am obsessed with Assouline books at the moment, especially the Chanel leather-bound set by Francois Baudot & Francois Aveline!

Favorite shops to browse?

I love browsing unusual antique & interiors shops – my favorites include Flair in Florence, BDDW & John Derian in New York, and Alfies Antique Market in Marylebone. For a sweet indulgence I love Todos Santos Chocolates & Confections in Santa Fe, New Mexico…it’s heavenly.

Do you collect any particular antiques?

I started picking up sculptures of hands on my travels,  I now have quite a selection from across the globe– there are so many different styles. They’re really interesting and unusual interior decorations, not to mention a great conversation topic!

Most visually inspiring place?

Big Sur in California, it’s endlessly breathtaking to see nature at its purest.

What do you always have on hand when traveling?

A good pair of sunglasses is vital for long travel days; I like Thierry Lasry’s cat-eye frame glasses.

Do you use shoe trees?

Saint Crispin’s hand-made trees are the ultimate travel friendly shoe trees because they’re hollow and super light.

Cherish any particular heirloom pieces?

A vintage white fur coat that my mother gave to me, and a certain sequin dress from One Vintage.

If you had a uniform, what would it be?

A pair of Isabel Marant wedge trainers, boxy tweeds and slouchy silk collarless shirts from Theysken’s Theory, and Hawaiian print pants from Stella. I find that adding a pop of color to any outfit peps me up ready for anything – at the moment I’m finding that in neon separates.

Signature drink?

The Bowery Hotel in NY makes a killer margarita.

Most stylish movie(s)?

Some of my favorites include Scorsese’s Casino and Blow Up by Antonini. I’m also super excited about the forthcoming Gatsby film.

Guilty pleasure you never feel guilty about?

Fine jewelry and massages:  an incredible pair of earrings or a statement ring can instantly uplift a look, and massages are necessary for my fast-paced life.

Elle est magnifique. Elle a un super beau sourire. Elle a l’air si heureux. C’est très rare dans la mode maintenant. Plus personne ne sourit. C’est dommage.
Merci de nous offrir ce cadeau.

I wouldn’t stop and start at her if she passed me on the street. She’s not very sartorially stimulating but she is a beauty and she does have great pieces. I would style them differently though. xx

Thank you for re-posting the top picture. I first saw this one when I got your book and this picture single handedly, more that any others, encouraged me to start dressing like myself again and to be true to my own style! She is not dressed stylishly, just feminine and with color and shape. Thank you Scott!

About that science teacher comment in the profile…my 7th grade science teacher wore what could hardly be described as ‘outfits’…alas, sigh. My girlfriend wears a mean dress not unlike the capture of life and fun in the first shot. The cape is special and brings a little UK country into the city! Who could ever have thought – those of us of your generation and before Scott – that electronic devices like the ‘pad’ held nonchalantly would be so much a matter-of-fact piece so casually carried around and what…? – No flying cars or jet packs?

that’s so cool how her seventh grade teacher never wore the same outfit, that’s kind of like how my kindergarten teacher had these different pairs of fabulous shoes that were always different and i guess that kind of inspired me :)

Love these little snippets you’re doing that offer insights into the lives and tastes of fashionable people! They’re so humanizing and even inspiring! I loved the part about her 7th grade teacher…how awesome is that? Then again, I’m a college professor….oh, the responsibility we have! LOL!!

Love the sandals in the first pic and the bag in the last pic. Overall, her style isn’t extraordinary but her gorgeous smile is amazing and elevates her look.

What I would really like to know is where she gets Australian ELLE DĂ©cor from, as no such magazine exists. It would be marvellous if it did.

Holli Rodgers lives right in the middle of the fashion tornado but still keeps her style 100% grounded & that is what makes her inspirational: a show on how to look great in real life!
Notice her last comment – a great ring or a lovely pair of earrings can make your style pop. Jewelry is the ultimate accessory.
