I love the wool jacket, but for the life of me I CANNOT understand pinstripes of any kind down the sides of pants. What were they thinking? Is it supposed to make your legs look longer and more streamlined? I can personally only tolerate them on Addidas workout clothing.

The perfect length pant for the lumberjack, who reads the Sartorialist, and understands the Tom Brown look.

Hahah I think more lumberjacks should go to the opera, judging by how good these pants look. Love how the stripe matches the leather of the shoe. God, you’re good.

There HAS to be a turtleneck, in either white or natural, under that blazer.

Love this look, especially that naval-looking jacket.
& by the way, that’s not a pinstripe; it echoes a long tradition of military dress wear dating from the turn of the nineteenth century where the stripe was used by some regiments to denote the blood spilt by fallen colleagues. The stripe has since been adopted by police forces & other paramilitary organisations, although I think it looks best on the tighter, mess dress pants.

This look says less tux pants to me, and more 19th century military. It goes well with the clearly military style coat.

    Looks very smart!

  47. David

    December 15, 2011 at 4:29 pm

It’s not a pinstripe!!! Pinstripes are a pattern of very thin stripes of any color running in parallel found in cloth. These pants are too short, and should not be cuffed with the stripe. And the coat seems to be an outer coat, not a sport coat.

Ha! Great caption. I have never seen this type of detailing on a men’s pant before. I must say I am pretty fond of it. I think it adds a fashionable, current touch but is still really versatile and doesn’t really limit what you can wear with it.

This fills me with ideas. I think work uniforms can seem stifling to the wearer sometimes, so it is nice to see something a little more expressive here. Finding ways to feel stylish, individual, and confident at work can make the day feel so much better. Getting work clothes to do some of the work–at least in our minds–is a good goal.

Its not a challence if you can spend an amount like this guy did to create a nice look. Love the visvim shoes, curious if they are worth € 650,-, like a good pair of Aldens, and the paints, but for the coat hmm can think of something better looking, like I said big spenders low respect.

Many people don’t like the stripe, but if you take it away, is the pant more stylish?

  65. D

    December 20, 2011 at 4:53 am

@Peter, those are definitly Visvims. I think this look is well done. It’s hard pulling of the tux/sidestripe trouser, have some really nice samples from Acne in velvet blue on blue… but, when you manage to get them mixed right (matched with a whisper, not a scream) they come across like the perfect choice.

The brown / blue / greenish-beige combo in the above picture is a winner.

What kind of shoes are those? They aren’t Visvam (from what I could find anyway). Thanks for any info. Love the site and the outfit.

  75. David A.

    January 22, 2012 at 12:56 am

@Dizzle They are Visvim. When I first saw the picture I was wondering who it was wearing the Visvims and then I saw the Nick Wooster tag and everything made sense :)

Wooster always wears the most amazingly cool and interesting footwear. The boots (I think?) featured in this gorgeous outfit are a prime example.

I love the stitching, different grain/color of leather, and the white Vibram-like sole. Very interesting and head turning, while also being subtle and classic. They look like something a countryman or hunter would wear around town in rural England, with gobs of thick Tweed.
