Believe it or not, this is the first denim jacket I’ve ever worn.  I’ve tried for years, but they never fit me correctly. This time, I finally did something about it and had the waistband brought up to my real waist.

Having the right length on a denim jacket makes all the difference.

You are looking very sexy!!! Well done Scott!

I also want to say thank you on behalf of all tailors and alteration people!!!
Working in clothing alterations myself I know how important a perfect fit. It comes from understanding body proportions and it’s very individual for every person. I wish more people could understand that. Just as unfortunate that there are not many seamstresses in alteration business who can do a good job.
Good luck to everybody finding one!!!!

I know what you mean about the right fit Scott…. until recently, i too had no denim jacket and now have 3, in quick succession, all the same fit, different colours of course.

My girlfriend didn’t think it normal for a man to shop like this.

    I now have a new girlfriend….

Levi’s is the only denim jacket that stands out as the standard. Sure, there are imitations: many labels, colors, and different stitching–and these are all nice, too. But only one that shouts authenticity. Levi’s

If you’re going to spend cash on clothing it’s a good idea to get to know a good seamstress or tailor for those little tweeks which make the difference between looking and feeling comfortable and not. We are all different shapes, their work can make all the difference. ,

    September 18, 2013 at 7:47 am

    You look awesome, Scott!

And I like that you took control over your clothes … Clinton on WNTW is always advising this. Now, when I shop, I know exactly what tailoring I’ll need, I don’t take my body so damn personally, see the straps and hem that need shortening, go get “the usual” done at my drycleaners, pick it up, DONE.

Your adjusting the denim jacket is totally de rigeur for a curvy petite like me!! :)

I also found a great denim jacket at J Crew. It fits perfect . Wondering if it’s OK to wear it with jeans? Still not sure of that Denim Suit look. Any suggestions? Does wearing a bit of a longer shirt to separate the two work ?

    • Hogan

      December 11, 2013 at 4:23 pm

A Denim Suit is a contradiction in terms. A denim jacket or pants is good for setting off something else as a contrast base.

A denim jacket! My gosh, yes! I want to wear one again. The problem at my age is that it will look like I’m wearing the same one, you know, like I never took the original off. Danger, danger. Still, if I pair it with the right items, it might just work.

look for nudie jeans denim jackets. in my opinion, they have the perfect fit… wear the jacket double- or tripledenim and wear it as much as you can…

And you look great in it. :)
It’s so interesting to see (when you let us sometimes) the way how you “grew up” to yourself, how your inner confidence and style evolved.
I think the main reason why YOUR blog is one of the best is that it’s not about fashion wich is a superficial, money based phenomenon, but it’s about PEOPLE. About eyes and stories in them. Your stories and your feelings in them.
I dont know how many times have you red this in a comment, sorry if it bores you. But I really appreciate your ability to see when looking. :) Have a nice day!

That’s right i can’t believe it :). For sure, i trust you when you say it’s a matter of a good cut. I’ve got my own for a year which is a present from my mother and the truth is that i wish it could fit a litlle bit more body-close. But something i noticed : once you roll up the sleeves, it does give a whole new allure to you jacket, whatever the cut is. I don’t say that you’re going to like it this way, but that’s a trick to try !
