On the Street….rue Rivoli, Paris

For me,  this shot is all about silhouette. I caught this while riding my bike on rue Rivoli. What caught my eye was the way the jacket sits away from the skirt, giving  you a sense of the body underneath the jacket.

I saw a similar idea while in Milan.

I see what you mean with ‘giving you a sense of the body underneath the jacket’. Bodycon silhouettes are indeed not the only way to show off a body, gaps and slightly exaggerated proportions are also a great way, slightly more subtle, but completely cool.

In the first photo the jacket swings away because her body is canted forward due to the heels. The Milan shot is, to my mind, much chicer.

The lady with the long brunette locks looks a bit like Kate Middleton…if she were to wear stilettos as racy as this…I do like jackets this season. The swing jackets complement the narrow skinny jeans that are all the rage.

    1) Fashion is about taking risks. I love a wide jacket over a slim skirt/pants (or the reverse – snug fitting top over swishy skirt/pants), but the problem here is the skirt with the shoe booties. It reveals exactly the widest part of her calves, making her legs look big – when she’s clearly a fit woman. Either a tall boot or regular shoe would be better here. Each piece she’s wearing, though, is DIVINE.

    2) I love this jacket, the unusual seaming in the side, its movement, over a sexy, edgy skirt and simply pumps. Classic.

I find that having a jacket that swings away from the legs/hips is a great way to show off a body shape, while at the same time maintaining some mystery…

Both of these looks leave you curious about what exactly is going on under the coat –

Much prefer the second silouette, which is classic french chic and very grown up. Everything is in perfect proportion.

In my humble opinion, the first silouette is too much little-girl- dressing-up. Which looks odd coupled with those v. odd looking (but v. trendy) bootees.

The explanation helped me understand what I see. I’m surprised the high heels didn’t throw the posture of her back. Fascinating bead wraps but the guy in the background with matching hat band and tie is extraordinary. You sure you didn’t cheat?

The shoes on that woman in the top photo may look chic while she’s standing still, but I bet when she attempts to walk in those things she looks ridiculous. Maybe it’s just me, but I think it’s sexier to see somebody moving about with ease, than hobbling around in awkward, painful steps like some strange marionette.

As I read in an interview with the wonderful Veruschka awhile back:

“In the Sixties, fashion was about liberation. It was about setting women free; it wasn’t about being unable to walk.”

    Amen, sister.

I quite enjoy both looks, although I like the second one better, as it is more utilitarian-chic. The second lady could walk a few miles in that outfit. You could substitute the close skirt for linen long shorts or cropped pants to get a similar effect.
