On The Street……..Mr. Hamish Bowles, New York City

Notice on the pants how the repeat of the print is cut alternating on each leg – that really breaks up the pattern nicely.

you know i have to admit something: i am actually scared of patterns and color. i have to give this man credit for no fear. what’s cool about him is that he just looks like a guy on the street wearing his clothes. bravo sart
(but i still can’t see myself wearing this combination, but touche to him!)

A *remarkable* sense of color: this guy is giving us the middle finger of summer light shades with just the right element of “what the f*&%$ are you looking at? — YES my pants are green, asshole!” contrast.

I DISPISE UGS. But he gets a pass for those UG similar shoes because of the style factor, and color coordination with his jacket. Need I mention the belt? Another bit of middle finger to contemplate.

Sum total? Handsome and hoplessly hot!

Wow! Isn’t it interesting how even in in an outfit like this (patterned pants, unusual colour of the jacket), it’s the details that really make the look?! I think that belt really makes everything stand out and pulls it together.

    A little…unseasonal. no?

But, of course, he rides the color/pattern horse into the sunset. And beyond….

Would that my profession allowed me to dress like Hamish…

This guy always pulls the mixed patterns off. And what we see him in today is what we will be wearing next Spring and Summer.

An interesting choice for an outfit. Not something I would choose, but it looks okay on him.The color of the belt just pops out too much.

I just don’t know. There’s certainly something to be said for a unique sense of color, but it seems to me that there is a threshold between progressive and ‘too much.’ I can’t get my perceptions of this fellow out of the ‘too much’ realm, but it’s probably because I couldn’t imagine pulling it off.

Cheers to him for having the pills to do it.

Beautiful pants! That’s quite a pair of trousers there. Are they Lily Pulitzer? The shirt and d-ring ribbon belt are nice too. I can’t say I like the colour of the jacket. At first glance I thought those were “Crocs” on his feet (::shudder::), but I’m still not sure what kind of shoes he is wearing. Great photo, amazing colours.

Now I’ve got the hump coz someone else has the exact same jacket as me. I think I wear it better though. Regards from London and congrats on your recent breaks.

The man can carry off a satin robe…. Say no more, of course he can carry off these trousers too!

The colors do work together, though an early-Spring-Easter-egg-hunt vibe. He looks like he is going commando or wearing loose boxers under those printy pants…
    I see camel toe!

More “rule breaking”? With the unseasonably warm weather we have been having this urban tropical, or shall I say urbane tropical look scores points for relevancy.

In the Midwest, where people think twice before wearing anything that is not “sensible” we are seeing a riot of apres Labor Day white, linen, and even the occasional searsucker pant or short.

What else can you do really when for the past few weeks the temps have been in the 90s and we haven’t had much rain? Today, was slightly cooler, but we had 100-degree humidity!

Finally, I must say that the men’s fashions have been looking adventurous lately.

    What’s next, urban kilts?

Kudos to all of you stylistos!

I haven’t read the comments on every post, but I wonder if the photos’ subjects ever chime in? It must be strange to read the public critique. I also wonder what the typical response is when people are approached. Does anyone decline the opportunity to be photographed?

Mr. Hamish Bowles – I dig your look.

Sartorialist – I love it when you clue us in regarding what to look for in the photo, for example, the alignment of this gentleman’s pants print. Your photos are accessible and beautiful and no one needs a guide when you’ve already done such a great job expressing yourself visually, however, it does add something nice.

When is the fashion world going to fully explore the mad beauty of batik. Those pants are magnificent.

Hamish always looks incredible. His look is not quite done justice by the term “fashion sense”; his sartorial splendor is more on the order of performance art. A previous comment called him a dandy. I’m not sure that accurate. He is POSH to the nth degree, and I LOVE the juxtaposition of Hamish next to the purely industrial backdrop.

Always beautiful, Sart! Thank you for letting us see fashion week from the inside. Enjoy the rest of the show.

He has an interesting aesthetic. And it works for him. His clothes are his trademark image, after all.

I studied at St Martins School of Art at the same time as Hamish and although always stylish and obviously destined for great things, he was a thorougly nice chap, not entirely usual in the fashion world. Still looking good.

How is it that the photo of a fine specimen such as Mr. Bowles receives barely thirty comments, yet Anna Wintour in surprisingly pedestrian attire yields an onslaught of praise?
People and power don’t always make sense to me.

MY FAVORITE MAN OF FASHION. LOVE HIM. So chic and an elegant walk. He is there with the likes of Baron Ginzburg.
