I like the bag….and the overall fell of the outfit..but the pants and the socks, just miss. They look to skimpy for the rich bulk of the coat and the scarf. A long skirt or, a pant with a wider, longer leg, would be better. The socks are what my husband calls “birth control”. Wearing them assures no physical contact will be initiated.

It is a style a bit special. Perhaps it is its main attraction.

The key is in the bag and that beautiful hat.

Wow, I guess the late ’80s are back. I saw someone else recently who was very reminiscent of When Harry Met Sally era Meg Ryan. Not a good trend.

Love how she has given a lively feminine take on what has become a stultifying men’s uniform of clarks desert boots, high-end khakis, and barbour jacket. Very nice.

To Debbie, the bag was the first thing I noticed as I’ve wanted one (the East West Messenger, to be precise) for so long! It’s Mulberry, I believe – sure it’s the Barnaby, in oak, but you can check out the whole collection here:

All about the personality rocking the outfit. I would look homeless in this because I would feel awkward.

  37. Peter

    April 25, 2012 at 11:48 am

I would never think to have my top hanging so low below the waist, like that. It looks great here, though. And the hat is incredible!

I have never seen on outfit on this site that I haven’t admired in some way, so here is the first! Ill-fitting jacket, unflattering pants, don’t know what is up with the shirt, not into the socks or shoes. I do like the hat, but looks frumpy with this outfit. I would love for you to explain what you saw?

  54. Kneed

    April 25, 2012 at 2:43 pm

I feel like the bag balances her out. Almost like the outfit would be too saggy without it. I love how the brim of the hat is casting a shadow on her face. How ~mysterious~

  55. Emily

    April 25, 2012 at 2:56 pm

Nice hat. The shadows really make this picture.

  63. LIZPR

    April 25, 2012 at 3:58 pm

Oh I don’t know about this. The buttons on her jacket are pulling, the flash of blue shirt in the front looks sloppy, and cropped pants and socks … hmm….she looks like she rolled out of bed, and not in the good way, either. I like every item – just not the combo.

  64. princessglee

    April 25, 2012 at 3:59 pm

Aspirational? No. Inspirational? Yeah, the bag and the socks.

    April 25, 2012 at 4:18 pm

Your pictures are becoming more about the personality than the clothes these days — which I love. You’ve got some populist mid-west streak leading your eye. It really seems terribly optimistic in the best displaced mid-western way.

  68. Alison

    April 25, 2012 at 5:34 pm

Love the way her hat is blocking out the sun on her face! Such an amazing photo of clothes that would otherwise look terrible. But here, they look great!

  71. Kimberley California

    April 25, 2012 at 6:37 pm

The photo by it’s self (lighting, depth, etc) is very nice, but it looks like she got dressed in the dark. To tell the truth, at first glace I thought she was a homeless person.

I think this is a case of “the whole is more than the sum of its parts”.

Taken individually, I don’t find any of the pieces of his look very interesting, but when you mash them all together like that.. the look is one of utter confusion. Different shapes, textures, colors.

I want to buy him a coat that fits.

Wow, I need to take more pages from this woman’s book… We have a very similar style aesthetic, but she is just daring enough compared to my more ‘comfortable’ style (read: slightly in a rut). Love the lighting of the shot, as well, thanks for posting.

She looks like the kind of person who would be fun to hang out with; it is kind of a scruffy look but that’s how lots of us leave the house (well, I do!). Not everything is about high end! Love the hat and totally understand needing to stuff your scarf into the coat in windy weather! So pleased to see this kind of look anyway she looks happy and fun! x
