On the Street…In the Market of Urubamba, Peru

Another monochromatic color story in the market of Urubamba.

While working on this image I couldn’t help but notice how perfectly she fits within her surroundings.

It’s reallly refreshing to see that kind of “traditional” dressing. It looks really classic and related to specific historical influences. No trying to hard to find something new – like us in the big cities. But at the same time it’s not random. Maybe it is a romanticised view, but for me it is really inspiring to see, how people in agricultural areas allover the world are dressing. I wonder, what the Peruvian men look like. Will you share some pictures of them with us, too?

This picture is perfection, not only as you said, she fits perfectly with the background, I find her so adorable and she hasn’t such a bad taste in fashion; colour block, isn’t it? :)
    Have a nice evening!

Dear Sartorialist, I love your photos and was so excited to see that you visited Peru. I live with a Peruvian but I have yet to visit the country. Did you see any other aspects of life in Peru? Perhaps, its more cosmopolitan cities . . . .

Love how not only are you capturing the beauty of the fabrics and its vibrant colors but also the humility of each individual.

The Urubamba Market is a favorite memory for me: the handsome people, the vibrant color, the crisp air and green countryside — and the bustling market itself with vendors selling wonderful items — everything from trinkets to luxurious alpaca sweaters and blankets.

Scott – these photos and those you posted on Morocco are such an inspiration. Thank you for looking beyond North America and Europe to the style and beauty found in so many other cultures. I love to travel – virtually, through your lens.

You are helping to redefine the word “fashion” and you are helping to liberate my thinking. Until I saw these most beautiful pictures, with the saturated colors, and the textures – so lovely that I felt I could touch them, I believe I had a very restricted sense of what it meant to be fashonable. What a surprise and what a gift. Merci.

Are those penny loafers she is wearing?

Your B&W market image (other photo) made me hungry for interesting bean varieties.

Thanks so much for these pics. The colors are wonderful and have me rethinking my city “black” palette. More than anything I simply love the way they layer the clothes, especially the sweaters.

Adorable outfit. I can just imagine her telling her kids or grand- children to get her “the blue cardigan with the buttons” or “the pocket skirt, it’s newly washed” and so on. Her accessories are super cute as well: white shirt, white hat. Finish off with a bold striped green and blue shopper. Perfect!
