Mr. Schuman, I find it off-putting when you tag these pictures “legs”. It verges on sexism.

    • dcinDC

      November 6, 2012 at 11:34 am

I try to be pretty nice when responding, but all I can say is “Get over yourself.” Why do some people on here (and in the world in general) have to find trouble where there is none. For that matter, MANY people on here comment about “legs” when they especially stand out in a particular photo – and most of the commenters are women. It’s not like he has a category called “Huge F*ckin’ Gazongas”! Sheesh… And furthermore – “The term sexism is most often used in relation to DISCRIMINATION against women.” How is Scott discriminating here?

      • Morgan

        November 10, 2012 at 4:34 pm

sexism can mean a whole array of things. i too am a bit uncomfortable when a woman’s legs are tagged just like tweed coats or blue dresses. objectifying kinda sucks when you’re on the other end.

        February 18, 2013 at 10:55 pm

dcinDC: “finding trouble where there is none”…. hmm….. let me see if I can explain this to you. Objectifying women means seeing them as a collection of body parts to be coveted: thick lashes, big breasts, a small waist and big hips; long, sumptuous legs. It means reducing women to being categorized and prejudged by their genetics. Objectifying can be seen in an act as simple as tagging an image “legs”. It’s not that much different than if he took some pictures of large breasted women and tagged the picture “breasts”. It’s saying to the viewer, “it’s okay to see these women as nothing but body parts. let’s not critique their fashion choices or their artfulness of style choice- instead, let’s slobber over those sexy legs they’ve got going.” This is of course unfair to the women, who I am sure would wish more to have their style choices appreciated. Even a little bit of sexism is still sexism. And yes, you are right, many women do also contribute to the objectification, but that does not make it any less wrong- the women in the picture are still being objectified.

what are you talking about? models are NEVER off-duty. besides, they develop camera radar – they have to, it’s their business. i have long legs but i might not mind if my legs were that crazy long!

I know! It’s disgusting… so well captured too, the angles and shapes their limbs make are awe inspiring. Yes like some earlier posters said, a bit like Gaugin, especially because of the langourious poses and the greenery behind the two girls. But for me so much stronger, so much more dignity for both the subjects and the artist.

The legs on the black girl – so beautiful and elegant and her pose somehow very modest and unassuming; I am green with envy. As luck would have it I was blessed with legs exactly the opposite of hers! Poor me! and Lucky her!!! I’m sure I would be a different person if I’d be born with legs like that. Great shot Scott. B
