Burberry Fall/Winter 2012

Another great Burberry collection.  The outerwear was reimagined, refit and restyled for a hip young lady.

Actually, this brings up a point. I was a bit surprised as to how many of the London collections seemed totally based on dressing for the cocktail hour.  There were so few clothes had any relation to cold weather. I guess it’s a business strategy, but a very narrow one.

I really like how this collection is so wearable and appropriate for the street. Great mix of casual and dressiness!

actually, I quite like what you photographed. The clothing doesn’t seem to be that limited (cocktail hour) and I like the materials and colors.

Prorsum is always one of my faves at LFW, and I loved this collection! Christopher Bailey always manages to freshen classics in a brilliant way!

I won’t deny the perfection of the construction, the quality of the shoes, or the young mystique of the skirts. However, there is a larger issue here that concerns me and is typically something seen in less-matured collections, those expected of beginning artists – the forceful cohesiveness through utilization of a single accessory, in this case the belts. They’re hideous, quite frankly; they look like orange construction tubing. The collection is perfectly cohesive without them but it’s as though the fashion director had a brain fart and thought ‘O-HO! Let’s add this dingy! Now it’s super matchy!’
I want to slap this person.

LOL, I beg to disagree, I like the belts they are cute and very feminin I feel they look ok, what shocks me rather are the horrible out of date stilletto heels, cuban heels are in and would have looked a lot better, easier to walk in and far more modern………I want to slap the shoe designer and Christopher both for ruining a perfectly good look otherwise………loool

To me, it’s not so much the collection that’s striking, it’s good, but not out of this world, but the styling. The colors, textures, and shapes have been pieced together really well.

I am all kinds of crazy about that rugged workwear type suede number (2nd to last). It would make a great character foil to all of this mature polish around the catwalks this season!

I really live the rope belts, gloves & clutches… The way the jackets & costs were left open but nonchalantly pulled together with a belt…

Anything to get the Brits out jeans in the winter – but the anorak-tied-in-the-middle is already the default look of busloads of women. Nice coat, though, with the contrast bow-tieat the waist.

I guess you’re looking at a different side of the coin when it comes to fashion week. For some designers, especially emerging young designers, it’s really about pushing fashion boundaries and really making their mark in fashion week, before filtering it down to simpler production pieces for sales. Sure it may not be exactly practical and ready-to-wear, but fashion in itself has never been about practicality, isn’t it?

Having said that, the Burberry collection is excellent in terms of wearability, but doesn’t really stir my imagination. I do love the ‘tailored’ puffa coats though.

I loved this collection, because it was smart and concise. The clothing was definitely for winter, not for the cocktail hour, which for me is nonexistent. I don’t want a lot of cleavage showing in the winter, and I don’t feel comfortable wearing skirts above the knees. I liked the way the clothing hugged the hips, which for me is always a problem area. So he made hippy women look good. Yeah!

  70. Marisa Alma

    February 22, 2012 at 12:59 pm

Purse size: too big for these little people. The designers have forgotten about proportion. A purse that is about 1/3 of the size of the person carrying it looks ridiculous, just like a McMansion that is too big for the lot. The same is true for shoes. When a person has stick legs, wearing combat boot-like shoes looks very sad–it makes the person look malnourished.

Did love the Burberry skirts though.

  82. Danielle

    February 22, 2012 at 11:57 pm

I also feel that the belts in this collection had an adverse effect. I feel as though instead of tying the pieces together, they made such a statement as to overrule any integrity of the pieces. It’s too strong an accessory and in too many of the pieces. It’s like they had to scream at us to belt our coats and jackets. We get it, and Burberry could have just whispered it instead.

This collection is fabulous but – yes, yes, yes – you are RIGHT, many, many labels + magazines + editorial here in London focus on the ‘cocktail hour’ and this goes for lots of the shops as well! It drives me nuts! When you live here, you want a good coat, some great shoes to move about in and lots of jumpers – but trust, finding these is a job in itself! The Burberry collection suceeds in taking our climate and lifestyle into account. x

I’m really impress by Burberry Prorsum this year. They have created quite unique collection for day wear and evening. I’m still in summer at the moment and I am very influence by their last spring colours. As winter hits I’m sure to have this collection in the back of my mind. I don’t think they are trying to make a huge deal with the belts and jackets, I believe that they are having fun with the looks and try getting people to play with the idea of accessoring more and have the confidence to be impulsive, which Burberry is all about.

Not a huge fan of this collection. Being girly and feminine is fine, but I prefer the past collections with trenches and studded belts. The only women I see wearing this collection, besides the shearling coat, are tacky women. The skirts are the only pieces that I can foresee someone styling it in a modern way, but peplum and frills are not my favorite.
