Thank you to everyone who participated in the contest!

We’ll be announcing the winner of the women’s cover at 3 p.m. on Monday, and the winner of the men’s cover at 3 p.m. on Tuesday. We’ll also publish the winning comments!

Can you wait that long…?

Stay tuned…

These are one of the many pairs of white pants I buy and then never wear. White jeans I wear all the time, but I just never pull the trigger on white pants. I think they don’t seem easy to keep clean. (These are still in the bag from 2008).

    Can’t wait. Can’t wait.
    Fingers are crossed.

And I can’t believe those pants have been in that bad since 2008. Let them breathe fresh air, and let them live out their pants destiny.

Or better still give them away to someone, a charity, a fan, a friend.

ok, whatever to all of that. I’m just so excited to see the J. Crew bag. most of my tops, of a few styles, are from there. talk about psychological attachment. seeing the bag thrills me for Pete’s sake. and no, I’m not associated with them. but anyway, it’s like my wanting to press the accelerator literally & actually when I hear that song, Drop the Bombshell- vroom!!

I much prefer oatmeal or sailcloth or whatever color is “not-quite-white”. Lands End Canvas actually made a nice offwhite colored denim. That one shade removed has really helped me let go of the ‘preciousness’ of the color.

At the beginning of Spring, I bought those same J.Crew’s (same size, too), and stained them every which way possible on the first day.

    I always wondered…
Women’s white pants are always slightly transparent, is that the same for men ? And is that why there not a lot of men who give it a try ?

good point. while in Vietnam with my bf, he had some white linen pants tailored. The tailor didn’t put lining near the back pockets so the pants are transparent. We did not notice this while in Vietnam. What is the case for the usual white male pants? I told him to 1. Get Lining put in 2. Get some nude/skin ton undies.

all white pants/jeans are transparent to some degree – i wear white/light gray thongs (i never find the nude tone ones in men’s department) to eliminate that “panty lines” one can notice these days too many. I let others to wonder if i go “commando” today, if them have that dirty imagination… at least nothing is distracting from nice white jeans look… ;-)

The key to sporting white trousers is giving up on the notion that you will be able to keep them clean. You will not. However, you WILL look crisp and devil-may-care, even as you sully them! You can always buy another pair. I’ve gotten at least three summers from a pair of wide leg DVF slacks that I hemmed to wear with flats, even when I knew the bottoms would inevitably stain since I like my hem to drag just so. They still look amazing and most of the stains are visible only because I know where to look. Bust open that bag!

But that’s why they’re great. They make a statement that you don’t give a damn what the world’ll throw at you.

Keeping them unworn in a plastic bag is wonderfully paradoxical, like when people have those horrible rubber cases on their iPhones. You bought it for it’s sleek delicate design, which makes you want to protect it, but then it’s no longer sleek or delicate and so no longer worth protecting.

I have a pair of white slim chinos from J. Crew and i love them to death. They go great with a blazer and boat shoes for a classic new england look. I get a lot of compliments when I wear mine. I’m a fashion student at Kent State University and hopefully the look flies with my non east coast classmates! Here’s a photo of me in the pants:

@Sophie: White pants for men are translucent and sometimes almost transparent.

Because of the many stylish pics of men in white pants on Sartorialist, I was finally convinced to buy a pair. I stuck with denim material, which shows less. I wear white underwear with it. And I examine it for stains throughout the day as I’m wearing it. Sure enough, there are always one or two!

I’ve tried to post my story for the contest three times.. But I haven’t been able to publish it. First time, I believe I clicked away the site to fast, the comment didn’t have time to finish loading. So I wrote it all over again, this time I saved it in case it didn’t work. I couldn’t -and still can’t find my comment, so I used the copy, but I wasn’t able to do that either, WordPress said there already was a comment like that published (?). Hopefully that means it is there, but I can’t find it haha.. Guess I will have to forget about winning. Good luck to everybody who still have the chance to win!
Sorry for my very bad English.

I’m really excited for the announcement. I love wearing white pants, they always look so fresh, it makes any outfit work. I have never really had a problem with keeping mine clean, much to the amazement of my friends who can’t believe I dare to wear white pants to hazard ridden school. I’ve even spilled coffee on them and they’re clean. I suppose some people just have better luck.

Can’t wait to hear. After reading many of the comments all I could think was good luck picking several. The outpouring of so many poignant, funny, and almost philosophical comments amazed me and they were such fun to read. Still keeping my fingers crossed for mine though, ha ha!

I wear white dresse and skirts and pants all the time and love the crispness of that. good luck!

I work at j.crew one night a week. You can totally return those! No joke. Although I suppose that since they’ve remained this way since 2008, they’ve taken on a sort of installation art quality?

You might as well wear them–the $ are sunk, so if you get them dirty, throw them away!

White pant are meant to be worn, no matter how long they last clean looking… i wore white ones since my 20s.. and have not a one pair..
for me it depended on where i lived – in one city them were dirty the very next day, in other, they could last 3 days, and in resort city for a WHOLE week, without noticible stains/dirty look…
well, you got a stain – things happens – wash them with bleach – what’s a big deal????
ROCK them, Sart!!! and get compliments – “You are so dapper today!”

Funny! I had white pants phobia too, then I decided to freshen up the summer look and bought a pair…then bought two more! So what if they get dirty? Just throw them in the wash and wear the other pair. You’ll look fabulous in them.

I just watched the new movie “Bourne Legacy” where the villain wears white pants. It made him totally unbelievable.

How about a contest for durable clothing! Mine is a dark green roll neck t-shirt made from some unidentified indestructible fabric that I bought in France in 1975. Gets worn every winter under knits and has not aged a bit (unlike owner).

You need OXI CLEAN! works like a charm. At this point you’d get more of your money’s worth if you just wore them until they’re stained then thow them out (NOT that I’m suggestging that).

I once took a life saving course at the local pool where we jumped into the water wearing pants, removed them, blew into the legs and wrapped the inflated pants around our necks. The pants turned into a flotation device that would save our lives if we were dumped into the water on a cruise. You might try to donate those pants to your community pool. White denim is cool; a white blend smacks of dull and good behavior and a future involving self-sacrifice.

You should dye those pants a bright bold color…easy peezy.

Pull them out the day AFTER Labour Day and wear them like a fiend.
You will have to launder them each time you wear them, but there really is nothing like a crisp freshly laundered white pant to make you feel sparkling and invincible.
