Gucci Fall / Winter 2015

22515gucciB4572The Gucci collection shown this afternoon was very artistic, but surprisingly it was equally sexy.

In my mind it’s a girl who went vintage shopping, and came home with the decision to pair her new pieces together in the sexiest way she could. The muted reds, pinks, olives and blues were paired against rich caramel furs that achieved a Margot Tennenbaum-esq charm.

Some things were just blandly ok, but the rest were sooo wrong. I don’t think hairy shoes will ever be sexy, moreover a trend. I see this brand going back to it’s status in the early ninetees, before Tom Ford came in.

These models are appallingly thin. There’s nothing sexy about it (and I say that as a woman who appreciates thin). Design aside, Gucci should be ashamed.

Awful collection with ignominious shoes…it cannot be Frida’s!, is it?

      February 25, 2015 at 4:13 pm

      No Frida left!!

It’s the first women’s collection of the new Creative Director Alessandro Michele. Formerly he was in the position of head of accessories.

It was announced he’d be taking Frida’s role after her exit at the end of last month.

The hairy shoes….did someone skin a Jersey Shore-ian? Pass the kleenex…. (snort)…(snort)….. OR perhaps it comes from one of these homosapians: =)

Of course I am not a fan of real fur :/
But beyond that, I think the collection was too messy. there were so many different elements, not much cohesion. Some pieces alone may be great, but difficult to see them.

It is both strong and pretty. That makes it very good. The sexy comes from the woman looking intelligent. I only hope the fur isn’t real fur. Sadly there is too much unnecessary cruelness in the world to add more with fur.

I like this ‘new’ Gucci work. I think Michele’s work is positive and exciting. There are some gorgeous colour combinations. The textures are also unpredictable. I am really looking forward to the print campaign. Again, The Sart’s photography is superior to other websites’ images..

I came back to look again twice. For many years I wouldn’t look at Gucci even the first time. I think it could be exciting to keep looking in coming seasons even after this exciting new start.

Scott, drop that Kool-Aid! There is little to nothing sexy here: 1) a hodge-podge of pretension with an out-of-the-consignment-shop-jumble-sale feel and many proportion/fit problems throughout; 2) quasi-skeletal waif models, two or three of whom it would be a kindness to describe as plain; 3) faux-fur slippers/loafers/mules which, besides being eyesores, would in civil life be the certain source bone-breaking accidents and the distribution of filth from street to human habitation. Your “On the Street” photos demonstrate that you have a strong eye for beauty — so why do you so often seem to succumb to the industry peer-pressure when it come to the runways? When the emperor has no clothes, it isn’t sexy — and you should call him on it.

I agree with you. I did not like anything in this collection and would not wear any of the pieces if they gave them to me.

Not to worry BJ, no one will be giving you anything. This collection is about removing any preconceptions you may have had about Gucci. It’s not about the past anymore, it’s about the future. The sophistication and streamlining will come as Michele gains confidence. For a first collection, it’s a great start. Hey, we’re all talking about Gucci, aren’t we? That’s something new for a lot of us…

But despite the beauty of the colors and design it does make me so sad to see them using fur……..there is no need when there are such beautiful fabrics out of materials that don’t kill animals. Someday if enough people demand it fashion will stop being cruel.

What’s happening with Gucci? I find this collection grotty, frumpish, depressing. An old-lady look that old ladies don’t wear any more, now reloaded for the young ones.

The styling is the most interesting part. I love the creased jackets and skirts; they look like just came out of a suitcase. The Blanche Dubois ribbons, bits of fur, costume jewelry pins, and tarnished, gilt corsages are terrific. The clothes appear beautiful and very well made. I would guess that Gucci is such a behemoth that it can’t always present exquisite collections like this one but I think it’s lovely.

The 4th woman with the see-through top: I imagine that someone cannot refuse when she is selected to wear something like this, unless she wants to lose her job, or possibly her career (unless she has clout already). This feels like coercion, or like a slave market. It gives me the creeps.

I feel compelled to mention that I don’t like fur for ethical reasons, I do enjoy these looks very much. While I can see why some would disapprove, I feel quite the opposite: the mood is dark, whimsical, vintage, perfectly undone.

This new guy at Gucci clearly didnt have enough time to come up with the Fall designs so he did a quick-fix by going to the thrift-shops and 2nd-hand stores in eastern europe! Furry Slippers? Really Gucci?

I like the furry shoes. I have not seen before. I’ll have to digest the other muted colors though.
