Mon cher Scott, une très belle photo!!
February 16, 2010 at 3:01 pm
That's indeed pretty strange.Seems like you missed the sales.I bought several pairs of black h&m knit gloves for very little money. They do pretty well, and I dont have to be afraid of losing them. Still,a pair of great fitting leather gloves in black is one of my unfullfilled style-dreams.
bookshelves and butterfly wings.
February 16, 2010 at 3:04 pm
worse: do you really want to see your wintery self in said shorts right now?
You sound like my father.
February 16, 2010 at 3:05 pm
February 16, 2010 at 3:06 pm
That is so funny, I tried to buy gloves the other day because it is so cold, but I was turned down. I don't care if spring stuff is out, it's 27 degrees outside. Love the blog too, very cool
February 16, 2010 at 3:07 pm
try the street vendors. somehow, they know exactly what you need more than anything, convenience, especially in this kind of weather. and they'll sell it with a smile — now that's style!
hahaI soooo completely agree…Same thing in Montréal, a big non-sense when we still have very cold days to come!;) good gloveshunt!
February 16, 2010 at 3:09 pm
Very 'cool' shot ;)
Totally empathize with your gloves issue.
February 16, 2010 at 3:10 pm
great photo. love the pop of red from the soles of the shoes.
good luck with your glove search.
La Crezia in Grand Central Station is great for beautiful simple cashmere gloves.
Also, street vendors are always a great source for current seasonal accessories. There finds will not be glamorous, but they are warm and functional. Two out of 3 forms in fashion qualify as a find in my book. Especially when frozen hands are a factor!

February 16, 2010 at 3:14 pm
I LOVE the christian louboutins! I have to say this is a very Classy picture.Snow and ALL. Oh and here in Florida the stores still have winter clothes!
the style crusader
haha that is insane! such a beautiful photo though! that is horrible to be trying to take photos with freezing hands. hope you manage to find a pair! xx
February 16, 2010 at 3:16 pm
Pop of the infamous "Red". Scenery stunning…..
Honestly do you really want to be selling shorts in this weather. My store location is in Sweden!!! and I´m getting box after box full of spring/summer styles that I ordered in August´09.This is really frustrating from a shop owners point of view but what can I do?Thank you for bringing this up and thank you for all your wonderful work.http://styleish.blogspot.com/
I 100% totally agree. I'm in the DC area and I feel the same way. I also was looking to buy gloves and had to settle on the last pair in stock my local BR. Makes no sense that winter clothing is hard to come by when it's still winter.
that's why fall fashion shows should be in the fall and spring fashion shows in the spring (spring being the same time that the winter olympics are on)
It would be better for everybody, really, when you think about it. But that's another story for another day
February 16, 2010 at 3:18 pm
I've been freezing all day long… is spring around the corner?
February 16, 2010 at 3:19 pm
the same happened to me some days ago…. i wanted to buy a nice woolen beanie, but they were all sold out. the shop assistant asked me if i would like to buy some nice shorts instead??!!
haha really funny…first of all in ny…but the weather is also the same in germany…
I lost my hat and just want to buy a new one. Ugh, it's the worst!
February 16, 2010 at 3:20 pm
AMEN to that!
I totally agree with you. it's ridiculous to try to make us buy winter sweaters in September and sheer blouses in February… By the way, when I see women with almost no clothes in this weather because they think it's sexy I find it pityful. People that look cold and unconfortable are the epithome of none-elegance!
The Shitty Astrologer
That is really cool capture…the shoes just rawwwwkkkk!
February 16, 2010 at 3:21 pm
hats off to this post
Scott, go to Daffy's at 44th street and Madison! I am sure you will find it there!
Absolutely love the touch of red. Gave me a smile, depsite the surrounding dreary, wintery weather. Absolutely fabby photo
February 16, 2010 at 3:22 pm
I totally agree with you. I understand some have the luxury of shopping ahead of the season and planning their wardrobe but those are few and latter way of life is a generation passed. And even if one doesn't agree with that statement, consider the current economic state. Buyers should really look at their customer and their climate. Snow in February is NOT A SURPRISE.
T H E F A T T A C K
I agree with you.
Good shot, one of my favourites.
February 16, 2010 at 3:23 pm
Tell me about it.
I got in from Asia in the third week of January and have been unable to find a single decent peacoat for the last 3 weeks.
As for the gloves, Century 21 was able to solve my dilemma. I know it's a crazy place, but you can't go wrong with basic tan leather gloves.
February 16, 2010 at 3:24 pm
That is ridiculous. Spring fashion should be put on hold till at least March. I hope you find a pair of gloves soon!
Fashion By He
great picture, hot loko with the CL heels
February 16, 2010 at 3:25 pm
February 16, 2010 at 3:26 pm
I was thinking the same thing two days ago!
This is utter madness. If you don't buy your winter coat by the end of June, you won't get one because in September there's nothing left anywhere (except in XXXL and XXS).
I still have no idea why this system is in place.
February 16, 2010 at 3:27 pm
come to roma, we have many gloves here!!
February 16, 2010 at 3:30 pm
I'm just not in the spring state of mind. I still have two months of this weather left….and many pairs of boots left to buy!
February 16, 2010 at 3:33 pm
Gorgeous photo, that flash of red from louboutins always looks fabulous. We are all having that dilemna, I feel depressed when I walk into a store and find my self dreaming about warm weather staring at sandals :-P
Love from Calypso
Well, it looks lik she does
One word. Sermonetta. Gloves. Everyday of the year its all they do. And they are fantastic. 59th and Madison.
The Concrete Commentator
I know right?!! I had the same experience last year. I also have the same issue in the summer when I'm looking for shorts. UGH!
February 16, 2010 at 3:35 pm
yes that is how it is here in DC as well
February 16, 2010 at 3:36 pm
This should be a Christmas card!
Scott Schuman does stationary!!
Beautiful picture. Though I can't help but wonder…tights? Really? It's snowing…
February 16, 2010 at 3:37 pm
I couldn't agree more…….something IS wrong with that system
February 16, 2010 at 3:38 pm
Daffy's, Syms or Century 21. And they'll all be super cheap designer items on post holiday markdowns.
Coco and Zaahb
This photo is fab!
Yes, this has never made sense!! Showing winter coats in the stores in July and shorts and swimsuits in January.
I guess for the same reason there's now summer jobs free and available for hunting in February. The phenomenon is so today, but quite awful, actually, to us dreamer-types.
It's tiring to constantly be on the know of one's moves for the following so and so months. But as said, it's how we/things function nowadays.
Keep alert ;)
February 16, 2010 at 3:39 pm
Yes… oh well, I bought 10S/S clothes in December when I was in Tokyo. I usually grab my winter gadgets at post-Christmas sale. If we miss that, that's it. Very strange indeed.
every year around this time i lose my gloves and can't buy another pair. your best bet is the street vendors by the subways : )
best picture ever! just perfect! love it!
February 16, 2010 at 3:40 pm
Those shoes + icy sidewalks = courting disaster
the delicious home
February 16, 2010 at 3:42 pm
I completely agree! All the spring clothes are such a tease.
February 16, 2010 at 3:45 pm
I JUST had this problem too. It's turned freezing again in London, yet nowhere on earth stocks gloves anymore. Complete disaster, seeing as my favourite jackets are crop-sleeved as well.

February 16, 2010 at 3:47 pm
I love that it looks like she is walking around wrapped in a blanket. Nice color scheme–navy, black, with a touch of red.
3 words Scott–LA BOO TAN….great shot !!
These aren't in stores (that I know of), but they might be perfect for you…
They have an open forefinger and thumb for ease of use with electronic devices.
Love that shot btw, it is like being in a snowglobe outside today.
February 16, 2010 at 3:48 pm
thank you! and here I thought it was just me bc i'm not in the fashion industry! i tried to find slippers last week…only to be greeted by bathing suits…when its 40 degrees where i am. no, my winter coat, scarf, and hat did not come off to try on bathing suits :Pp.s. love your blog, keep up the great work!
February 16, 2010 at 3:49 pm
I was in the same predicament and discovered that Paul Stuart on Madison has lots of gloves!
February 16, 2010 at 3:53 pm
The same happened to me last week. It's the middle of winter in New York and no winter accessories to be found!
February 16, 2010 at 3:54 pm
p.s. I can't believe she's walking around in stilettos. I'm wearing boots and I still slipped and fell this morning on my way to class!
February 16, 2010 at 3:56 pm
I just love the simplicity of the photo with that POP of red from her Christian Loubotin pumps :)
it's like seeing easter eggs on the shelves the week after christmas! I love this shot by the way, the red sole of the louboutin's is gorgeous. H
February 16, 2010 at 3:59 pm
oh my god i wish i had looked this classy today… damn it was cold.
i feel your pain – i can't even find a hat. not even a beret. and hats are for all seasons!
How… how can see walk in the snow with those heels??? Some days ago I've fallen to the ground and I was wearing flat mountain-boots… I envy her…
February 16, 2010 at 4:01 pm
This image says everything that needs to be said about New York in the winter. Adore.http://fierceobjection.wordpress.com
February 16, 2010 at 4:03 pm
This is a source of constant annoyance, no winter clothes in the stores when you need something new to perk you up because there are still a few more months of winter!
February 16, 2010 at 4:05 pm
Love the photo from a-z
Nagore de Garamendi (Colette)
We must be crazy…
February 16, 2010 at 4:09 pm
it nuts out there, spring resort clothing are out and unless we leave New York for warm weather then no point searching for gloves… this is the downfall for fashionweek the weather. heading to the tent tonight to see tibi and Toni Francesc. hope the snow don't kill mehttp://fashionaddress.blogspot.com/
February 16, 2010 at 4:11 pm
Heart Louboutins. Bloomie's was having a sale on their gloves over the weekend so there might be something left…
I totally agree. This photo is beautiful!!
February 16, 2010 at 4:12 pm
Jack's 99 cent store on 32nd, between 6th and 7th, sell black fleece gloves for 99 cents. Shocking I know! I loose like 10 prs of gloves by the time Spring rolls in so couple of years ago, I wised up and bought 15 prs at Jack's. It's very warm and it's black and 99 cents each. Can't go wrong with that!
February 16, 2010 at 4:13 pm
yes! i totally agree. there's a great opportunity for some enterprising retailer to open a shop that sells clothing for the season that we're actually in! novel idea, huh?
p.s. lovely photo …
February 16, 2010 at 4:15 pm
she looks so stylish with that popping red:)xoxox
February 16, 2010 at 4:16 pm
you are preaching to the choir. so true…what can be done?
The Little Ray of Sunshine
February 16, 2010 at 4:19 pm
this photo amazingvery very beautiful
Jack Spade has some nice ones right now actually.
February 16, 2010 at 4:20 pm
i always wondered the same about new york. it is laughable that you cant get what you need when you need it. who needs spring in winter and winter in spring?
the lawyer fan
Very funny rant…ahhh you gotta love how merchandising and weather aren't always amicable.
I love this photograph. Is her skirt made of strips of leather? Sure looks like it.
Enjoy the shows Scott.
February 16, 2010 at 4:24 pm
I love the colors and the feeling of length in this photo.
February 16, 2010 at 4:28 pm
I think Diane VonFurstenburg was saying something about the availability not meeting the needs of the customer and subsequently everyone suffers.
February 16, 2010 at 4:40 pm
Scott you are totally correct.. What is wrong with system…
I went shopping last week as well, and its been cold in SF… all the shops were filled with leftover sales rack of winter goodies and all the regular priced merchandise was for spring/summer…
knowing SF we still got a few more months of cold/moderate weather…
whats going on with the shops and there buyers? its like they have gotten rid of all of there fall stuff already and expect us to buy shorts and tee's from now on…
as a former buyer, shed some light on how these buyer's buy…
thats another problem with fashion nowadays, buyers are terrible for most of the stores… just terrible…
February 16, 2010 at 4:41 pm
I agree..it's really too cold!!!
It's the same problem if you want to buy a bathing suit in the summer. All winter clothes.
Retailers have had a pretty heavy winter, and most of the east coast storms so far this year were record breakers. Every single person in the country at some point or another had to invest in winter gear that may have never had to do so before. It's a simple matter of supply and demand. People are not going to go out and buy winter gear in March so they have to prepare ahead of time – their orders are done well before winter, so it's hard to estimate the fact that most of the east coast would see 50+ inches of snow – not seen since the 1800's!!
February 16, 2010 at 4:43 pm
February 16, 2010 at 4:44 pm
the key is to shop in the little corner stores. yesterday i went everywhere from bloomingdale's and macy's to h&m trying to find gloves and we finally found a bodega with hundreds of pairs for sale right outside the subway. try the guys who sell luggage on 14th near 7th.
February 16, 2010 at 4:46 pm
Barneys on Madison has some beautiful cashmere-lined leather gloves on sale right now.
February 16, 2010 at 4:47 pm
Callous bastard here once again, sorry Scott.
"…and yet, I can't by a pair of gloves in New York City."
Love ya, again!
February 16, 2010 at 4:50 pm
Go to SERMONETA!
609-611 Madison Avenue10022 New York, New York (USA)Shop: 001 212 3195946
They specialise in gloves. Best Italian gloves as far as I am concerned!
February 16, 2010 at 4:52 pm
That's funny… In LA it's a warm sunny day that you actually do want to go out and buy some cool shorts to wear out and about.
February 16, 2010 at 4:53 pm
I HATE that. It's snowing in Chicago and yet I can't find a pair of boots to save my life. Things like gloves and boots should absolutely be available as long as the weather calls for them. Sheer ridiculousness.
February 16, 2010 at 4:57 pm
Dave's Army Navy on 6th.
February 16, 2010 at 4:58 pm
That's the way it is folks. Unfortunately if we didn't buy our gloves from september to december…we lost our chance. No more gloves. Now it's the time to go to the shops and check out tropical bikinis, lovely shorts and edgy sandals! I live in the center of Spain. 2 degrees (celsius) maximum temperature today. Minimum -2. Raining all day long. Yep, that's Spain in the winter…maybe tomorrow I'll go to buy one of those bikinis.Totally in the mood.
Pickles & Coffee
February 16, 2010 at 5:00 pm
todays snow and my lack of free hands was super frustrating, i had wet toes, a wet suit on a hanger, however, i did have a pair of dollar gloves so my hands were warm… saw you at the ifb didnt get a chance to say hi.. love your work
This is such pure and perfect poetry. An enduring and defining image. Thank you.
February 16, 2010 at 5:02 pm
I faced a similar issue this weekend when my coat was taken from a bar in the West Village! I was visiting from Boston and had to wear one of my boyfriend's old coats around town because I couldn't find any decent coats in the entire city.
February 16, 2010 at 5:03 pm
I love that photo… classic red Loub soles always look best with all black!p.s. Saks always has nice men's gloves year-roundhttp://www.saidted.com/
February 16, 2010 at 5:04 pm
I mean, the system that you helped created? You should have the answer to that.
February 16, 2010 at 5:09 pm
Love this photo. What a moment in live. Thank you for all your beautifull photos on this blog.K_line Lisbon
February 16, 2010 at 5:10 pm
I know exactly what you mean, if you run out of winter clothes anywhere after december, you are screwed.I hate it.I do love this picture, though, especially the lady in the distance, she kinda looks like she could be dressed in a 20's attire, complete with a cloche and long gloves.
February 16, 2010 at 5:15 pm
Our Lady of the Snows, I love it. Seriously though, department store mens' counters don't have gloves right now? If that's true, there really is something wrong with the system.
February 16, 2010 at 5:19 pm
February 16, 2010 at 5:21 pm
Fine men's gloves by Dents at Freemans Sporting Club on Rivington.
February 16, 2010 at 5:23 pm
I totally sympathise!!!
I live in London and we've been experiencing the same inclement weather as NY.
I tried to replenish my long sleeved polos mid January and the sales girl in Ralph Lauren said they would'nt have any more in until next year!!!!…. but they did have some short sleeves in just in time for the spring…. & i'm like…It's minus 7 Celsius!!!Has the World and Ralph Lauren gone MAD?!!!!
February 16, 2010 at 5:27 pm
I'd love a copy of this photo on my wall.
February 16, 2010 at 5:29 pm
Go into any given Tourist shop and you can get some with little Statue of Liberty's of Apples on them!! Very chic!
The last time I was in the city, it was supposed to be warm and we went to the financial district (should've known better) it was windy of course, and freezing..had to stop at a tourist vendor and me and my 5 girlfriends all bought matching grey sweatshirts!!Super cheesy tourist feeling, but now I totally love the memory that hoodie gives me!
I love back-photo's.
Scott, you've outdone yourself with this photo.
February 16, 2010 at 5:43 pm
i just bought 2 pairs of lambskin gloves at daffy's herald square the other day…for a mere $23 each. they may be off-season according to the fashion industry, but that translated into a great deal for me at just the time they were needed!
February 16, 2010 at 5:44 pm
Thank you for this admirable photo. For me, perfection. The colors are amazing, the snow is like a fairytail, the silhouette is like a dream, the atmosphere is magic. I'm filled with wonder.
February 16, 2010 at 5:50 pm
well thats just a beautiful picture is what that is
We're even more messed up in Los Angeles because our seasons run late. It's cold and foggy in June and beautiful and warm in October. The up side to this is that when you do want shorts in July, they're on sale. Also, I am looking at the fall RTW fashion shows, knowing that if I buy something fallish now, I can wear it until July.
February 16, 2010 at 5:54 pm
I just saw this photo on greedy girl. the shoes make it perfect. one of my favourite shots from this site.
February 16, 2010 at 5:55 pm
This is where mom-and-pop shops should be thriving against department stores and other big chains that operate from faraway corporations using spreadsheets: by keeping seasonal items on the streets through the season!
For instance, in Austin, TX, where river-tubing is the most popular thing to do from May through September, they yank ALL summer stuff off the shelves after July 4 in preparation for back-to-school clothes. Never mind if you need another bathing suit, new tube or anything summery. Now it's freezing and the stores are selling spring clothes when no one has enough warm clothes. I don't know why smaller retailers don't fill this niche!
February 16, 2010 at 5:57 pm
Hate to say it, but Century 21 may be your best bet. I was there two weeks ago and they had amazing leather and cashmere gloves on sale for around the $100 mark.
February 16, 2010 at 5:59 pm
I tried to buy a pair of shorts at the height of summer, in July. I was outta luck. They had some nice gloves for sale, though…
Sucks about the gloves, but that picture is kick-ass. Nice Louboutin's…
February 16, 2010 at 6:02 pm
Wow! Women and Fashion
February 16, 2010 at 6:03 pm
I think that is THE worst thing about how merchandising is done. I hate it every time I go to the malls in Feb-March. Why do you have Bermuda shorts out when I still need a scarf? It's Michigan, for chrissakes!!! ARGH!!!
…but on the plus side, all of the winter wear is on sale :-)
February 16, 2010 at 6:09 pm
beautiful photograph, as usual… i love the splash of brilliant red on the bottoms of her shoes…
February 16, 2010 at 6:13 pm
I totally agree too, here in netherlands is full of snow, but I just see spring wear in the shops! you can't find even a sweater!! crazy… simply crazy Natalia
February 16, 2010 at 6:14 pm
Now you know what it feels like to live in northern cities. Here in Montreal, the spring/summer merchandise in stores is almost 4 months early… so depressing
February 16, 2010 at 6:19 pm
I was actually looking for a pair a patent leather gloves the other day, but I couldn’t find a pair anywhere. Does anyone know where one could find a pair?
February 16, 2010 at 6:20 pm
Possibly my favourite picture ever.Congratulations!
Fabulous no matter what the weather! I feel your pain Scott, it is Feb, it is snowing and the Chloe sandals I want have already sold out!!! Madness!!
This shot is incredible, the red bottoms are so vivid.
February 16, 2010 at 6:21 pm
I agree. I went looking for a wool hat today and they're all gone.
February 16, 2010 at 6:22 pm
Brilliant picture. I love the way the red soles peek out, really brightens the whole picture. Rather lovely.
Speaking of lovely I saw Garance on the video style.com & Vogue made of bloggers of America, and she looked gorgeous! xx
February 16, 2010 at 6:27 pm
I had the EXACT same problem last week when we were hit with a snowstorm in Texas – not to mention the temperatures have not risen above freezing in months. My boyfriend got a ridiculously long rant from me regarding the silliness of fashion seasons being way too premature.
I don't even want to think about bathing suits… I JUST NEED TO REPLACE MY GLOVES!!
February 16, 2010 at 6:28 pm
Ah… one year I had to frantically search every store in town to find gloves, a hat, long underwear, etc. because I didn't own any of those things and was heading to a snowstorm. But, we lived in Arizona and it was January. Last year – no snow boots in my size by December 1st! What the..?!
Why on earth do you not want to buy bathing suits and shorts right now? I mean, really.
February 16, 2010 at 6:29 pm
snow makes the most beautiful pictures, and yes there is something terribly wrong that ones fingers must freeze in Feb, especially yours.
I've always hated that about this time of year – it's freezing outside and yet i'm being lured into buying tank tops, bikinis and short shorts that you won't be able to wear in the next 5 months unless you book yourself a one way ticket down south
Lions, Tigers and Fashion OH MY!
February 16, 2010 at 6:39 pm
what a lovely photo, i love how the louboutins are glowing!
February 16, 2010 at 6:43 pm
what a mesmerizing photo….. <3
February 16, 2010 at 6:44 pm
Thanks for catching that I wrote "by" instead of "buy"
My fingers were too cold to type right.
February 16, 2010 at 6:45 pm
I wound up in Denver late one March to attend an unexpected funeral. on my way from one coast to the other
it was so snowy & cold and I had nothing nice & warm to wear; shopping and trying to find a suitable coat was ridiculous. I wound up buying a cheap pashmina from a cart
February 16, 2010 at 6:47 pm
Once in a week, I just check your blog, and I never stop wondering about it. Maybe one day, you'll publish an album + a book.I will be the first buyer.
Dejana from shopsterium.com
February 16, 2010 at 6:49 pm
you can order these Olympics gloves, everyone in Toronto's wearing them :)
February 16, 2010 at 6:51 pm
Sorry for being such a Grammar Nazi (this is the self-proclaimed callous bastard) but they just catch my eyes sometimes. On a more relevant note, I've only just begun to follow your blog and really appreciate what you are bringing to the table. This photograph is amazing and shows the extreme lengths that humans are capable of going to in order to remain looking "fashionable." Tights and heels in a blizzard? Kudos.
February 16, 2010 at 6:54 pm
Love the shot – and the look.
If little red riding hood grew up and moved to NYC…
February 16, 2010 at 7:02 pm
Go to Saks! They carry Italian leather gloves lined with cashmere.
Beautiful photo. I don't get how people can walk in that weather with those shoes on though. It's asking for a broken ankle.
February 16, 2010 at 7:03 pm
tried to buy pants for skiing this past weekend and was told, "skiing season is over." in February. when it was 20º and snowing outside.
The system is screwy.
February 16, 2010 at 7:09 pm
I know exactly what you mean! It was freezing all of January and I couldn't find earmuffs anywhere! Little did I know, a little trip to Williamsburg solved my problem. Found in a little boutique. You should try! Good luck!
February 16, 2010 at 7:21 pm
She looks great even if not dressed for the weather. Maybe she got caught by surprise? There's something Ukiyo-e about this photo…
February 16, 2010 at 7:22 pm
Don't forget chinatown, not every vendor down there is trying to sell knock offs or even so called name brand! As far as fall clothes shown the previous spring and vice versa, its ridiculous but its the status quo, and people do buy it up because most of the cute clothes for spring are gone after late March!
February 16, 2010 at 7:23 pm
How do you think we feel in Los Angeles when it's 87 degrees and the shop are all pushing down parkas? The Polo Store looks like it belongs in Bangor Maine, trying to sell me five layers of wool. Palm trees, palm trees.
February 16, 2010 at 7:24 pm
i agree… its hard to find some nice gloves to buy. i had the same problem a month ago and the stores already had springs clothes. got at jcrew. try to buy online.
Gene Wicker Jr
February 16, 2010 at 7:25 pm
The red sole shoes make this shot for me. Such a great photograph… a brave woman for wearing those heels in that kind of weather.
February 16, 2010 at 7:26 pm
Same thing happens in London! It's ridiculous…
February 16, 2010 at 7:30 pm
Kudos also to wearing vertiginous Louboutins in that weather!
February 16, 2010 at 7:34 pm
the shoes complete the outfit.love it.
February 16, 2010 at 7:36 pm
If you sold a print of this photo, I would be the first to buy one – it is just stunningly beautiful!
February 16, 2010 at 7:38 pm
This is the best time of year to get winter clearance.
February 16, 2010 at 7:54 pm
This photo is so beautiful. Proves nothing will stop real NYC glamour.
February 16, 2010 at 7:59 pm
I wish I could find shorts! It seems that California is stuck with all the winter clothes when here it's summer weather. How ironic.
February 16, 2010 at 8:03 pm
nice shot! love her heels!
February 16, 2010 at 8:06 pm
use ur old pair
February 16, 2010 at 8:09 pm
I go through this nearly every year because I wear out my winter goods. I'm a dog walker on the street everyday and in Chicago winter. I'm shoving the stuff in pockets, messenger bag, etc. By Feb., my stuff looks ragged. Right now, I want more than anything to buy a new winter hat that I like, but I won't be able to buy one until July! That's the other issue–who buys winter gear during Summer?!
photo + form
February 16, 2010 at 8:13 pm
So true but the same can be said of summer. Ever try and buy a swim suit in august?
An interesting chador.
In a pinch, get gloves at one of the shops in GCT, or insulated work gloves from a hardware store.
February 16, 2010 at 8:14 pm
Ha Marie, NYC in Louboutins… not the worst "beaten path" a girl could come across.
February 16, 2010 at 8:16 pm
I learned this the hard way two years ago when I lost my gloves in February and couldn't find a pair in any of the stores. I made it a point this and last year to buy an extra pair at the beginning of the season just in case!
But if you can wait a day or two there is always online. :)
February 16, 2010 at 8:31 pm
Scott, If you can make do with utilitarian-but-warm gloves, try a hardware store or an Army/Navy surplus store. The seasonality of their merchandise stock is more in synch with reality than that of traditional clothing retailers.
February 16, 2010 at 8:36 pm
well…why don't you go to a gloves store???Sermoneta on Madison Ave may be??!!!
February 16, 2010 at 8:38 pm
dont u wanna travel to asia and take picture of asian people in their own fashion style? i love your pictures and i bought your book yesterday. if you come to asia do drop by in Sabah (Malaysia) =)

February 16, 2010 at 8:40 pm
i agree completely. i have lost all my scarves since christmas and cannot for the life of me find a worth while one in stores anywhere!
February 16, 2010 at 8:45 pm
dunhill 60% off holla
February 16, 2010 at 8:53 pm
Well, This has happened to me as well whit not being able to fund gloves, but that's why people made pockets. Besides, who cares about gloves with shoes like these which make the outfit pop.
February 16, 2010 at 8:54 pm
Well, This has happened to me as well whit not being able to fund gloves, but that's why people made pockets. Besides, who cares about gloves with shoes like these which make the outfit pop.
Amen brother!! It's time to do away with this antiquated retail system that doesn't serve our needs.

February 16, 2010 at 8:59 pm
come to New Zealand it's summer and the sea temp perfect for swimming….I love the red soles on the shoes gorgeous :>)
February 16, 2010 at 9:01 pm

Tastes Eclectic Fashion
February 16, 2010 at 9:47 pm
I hate how everywhere you look stores are pushing spring merchandise so much. It's ridiculous. But if you look hard enough most winter stuff is on sale now. At least that's what happened to me!
That being said, this image has great iconic potential. I love everything about it. Whoever she is, she's got major style.
Well said. I work in retail and it's nuts! One cannot appreciate the season we are living right now as it is: You must buy winter gloves in August and shorts in February. NON SENSE!!!!! How not to leave your gloves around? Well, take mental notes: I memorize my belongs and my actions as stickies in my mind. It works! I use to leave everything everywhere until the day I left my front door OPEN! Never again! I swore memorize my actions and since then, I haven't lost a thing!!!! The human brain is quite a marvel!
February 16, 2010 at 9:51 pm
What happened to your old gloves Sart? I remember you saying that you hope you gloves look like Mr Luciano Barbera's gloves in on of your pics of him? In any case you, Daffy's is always a good pic for some stylish, quality men accessories such as gloves. I'm not sure Barneys warehouse sale has any, was there and don't remember seeing any. Just sharing
February 16, 2010 at 10:19 pm
Wow, wow, wow. Such a stunning photograph in terms of both fashion and technique.
You know, you could buy hand-knit gloves on etsy. There are a lot of beautiful, well-made pieces to choose from : )
February 16, 2010 at 10:25 pm
Because the world it's completly crazy!!!!! Congratulations!!!!
February 16, 2010 at 10:28 pm
Being in the fashion world this whole topic has come up several times in the office! It is all setup for back in the day when wealthy people took cruises to escape the cold they go buy cruise wear and spring wear but GOD those times are so OLD! Liz Claiborne has hired weather teams to determine when items should be out to sell but its going be a awhile till all catch on to something like this? It so needs to be brought up to the council of fashion God's or very higher ups of all?? Good-luck its shorts and tees time! Come to Florida were wearing it now!
February 16, 2010 at 10:31 pm
Absolutely love this photo! (and commiserate on the gloves)
February 16, 2010 at 10:34 pm
agreed! i live in MINNESOTA, lost my gloves, and can't find replacements for the life of me.
on a related note — target has stopped selling sweatpants as well. since when are sweatpants seasonal??
February 16, 2010 at 10:39 pm
Great! I tried to buy gloves last week after work – thought it would be a quick task. I was just going for something cheap, just to get me home. I even tried CVS – nothing! I couldn't even find gardening gloves, believe me I tried.
February 16, 2010 at 10:47 pm
This. Is. Gorgeous.
I lived it up in the snow all day today (i'm only an hour from you!) but I bundled up in tights and a sweater… the red on my feet was only my hunters, no Louboutins.
Borrowed this for my blog because I love it so much. Great job, keep it up!
February 16, 2010 at 10:58 pm
Oy my goodness… brilliant photo !
February 16, 2010 at 11:06 pm
Is it safe to wear stilettos in that weather?
And yes, what about when you want to travel overseas and the only shop you can buy a coat at is some mountain climbing shop because it's the middle of the Summer? That's the experience I've had here in Australia. I know, limited floor space, etc. just sayin'.
February 16, 2010 at 11:15 pm
Bugger the gloves – that photograph is amazing. A favourite.
February 16, 2010 at 11:19 pm
Yes, it's deeply unfair that losing a glove at this time of year means having one cold hand tucked into a pocket or under one's thigh while driving right until April. I've learned to keep a decent-looking pair of gloves in reserve every year.
February 16, 2010 at 11:30 pm
That is a such a good photo. Love the red in your heels.
February 16, 2010 at 11:31 pm
This could very possibly be The Best Picture Ever.
February 16, 2010 at 11:32 pm
What a shot!
February 16, 2010 at 11:44 pm
louboutins in the snow. beautiful shot.
February 16, 2010 at 11:48 pm
I love the spark of the Louboutins!!! Incredichic.
February 16, 2010 at 11:49 pm
I'm kind of surprised you dont own several great pairs of gloves.
February 16, 2010 at 11:56 pm
tough luck about the gloves, but the photo is amazing!
February 17, 2010 at 12:08 am
this is such a beautiful picture. it really caught me right away. wow.
Lady San Pedro
Beautiful as always. I love the discrete flash of red.
February 17, 2010 at 12:25 am
great photo, tout en mouvement !can't wait spring!, love the shoes
I had this same problem. Go to American Apparel, where the shorts sit on the shelves beside the gloves and scarves allyear round.
beautiful photo! i love her heels xx
February 17, 2010 at 12:31 am
Incredible red *pop*! What a great eye for composition you have…..
On a side note, I've found great leather gloves that are brand new for $1-2 at estate sales. Grim, but lovely vintage construction and often never worn.
February 17, 2010 at 12:32 am
February 17, 2010 at 12:55 am
i would totally frame this picture… it's perfect!
Sorry about your glove dilemma.
February 17, 2010 at 1:01 am
Try living somewhere like Hong Kong, which is fashion obsessed, but also a tropical island on the other side of the world from the centers of the fashion industry.
It will be 90F, 90% humidity — and all the designer shops will be filled with heavy woolens, puffy jackets, boots, etc.
There are not a few fashionistas walking around HK in big fur coats, as if they were living in Montreal, not southern China. I find wearing things so obviously out of season to be overly showy and pretentious.
* P.S. I hope you find some gloves. Too bad you don't live here. I'd take you shopping at the Lane Crawford men's dept!
February 17, 2010 at 1:05 am
Amen! Here's Stefano Gabbana's take:Last winter Stefano Gabbana started asking questions when he saw cotton shorts in one of his Dolce & Gabbana stores in Milan. Why, God, why? "As a consumer I said, ‘No, this makes no sense,’” he told WWD. By gosh — he's right! Allow him to elaborate with a metaphor:“I don’t want cherries or strawberries at Christmas anymore. I want to eat, dress and live on time,” he said with vexation.
February 17, 2010 at 1:19 am
well it's a good system for us in southern hemisphere who buy online from US and european retailers! ;)
the metaphoric plethora
February 17, 2010 at 1:46 am
great find. the red contrast from her shoes makes the photo.
February 17, 2010 at 1:57 am
February 17, 2010 at 2:10 am
Are those louboutins? hot!!!
February 17, 2010 at 2:16 am
A modern day version of the little match girl … with a little more money to spend!
February 17, 2010 at 2:28 am
Red Soles can warm you enough ! :D
February 17, 2010 at 2:45 am
magical 21st century shot of the city in the snow!
i absolutely love it.
and the stylish lady's Louboutins!(how brave she was to walk around in them on this icy day!)
February 17, 2010 at 2:50 am
This photograph is über-cool!I love the lady's red part of Loubotins. And its really sad that winter collections are swept away and maybe buying a pair of shorts in winter is the new black.
February 17, 2010 at 2:58 am
faaaabulous photo. and i enjoyed the little rant :)
February 17, 2010 at 3:05 am
reverse problem in the tropics – the chain stores like zara, gap etc selling winter woolies in countries where there is no winter. what to do?! love the echo of the front figure at the back of the photo.
February 17, 2010 at 3:10 am
it´s no sense!!!
February 17, 2010 at 3:22 am
Thta photo is so print=worthy…as in large print on the wall. Love it.
February 17, 2010 at 3:29 am
I'd like to buy that woman's shoes, that's what I'd like to buy :D
February 17, 2010 at 3:39 am
And yes I know what you mean with the shops having the wrong clothing for the weather. But you live in New York, there should be a leather shop somewhere around which sells gloves. Or fly over to Venice, they have tons of glove stores.
what dia like
February 17, 2010 at 3:52 am
yes ridiculous, same situation in France.http://www.whatdialike.com
February 17, 2010 at 4:01 am
WOW! that bad huh!
February 17, 2010 at 4:03 am
the system is pushing people always forward, disconnecting from the presence, what's happening today. if one always thinks tomorrow, he will just pass the day, today is just blurry then. it's the main problem putting people in depression?? you don't decide on behalf of yourself, even to get a pair of gloves, the system decides for you….
February 17, 2010 at 4:12 am
I totally empathize with you. I live in Brazil, we're having one of the worse heat waves in history, and yet you couldn't buy bathing suits in department stores now to save your life! they want you to buy coats, and scarves, and sweaters. it's 100 degrees outside.
February 17, 2010 at 4:31 am
One of the best photograph EVER!
February 17, 2010 at 4:35 am
I have the same pet-peeve! But unfortunately, I usually cave and end up buying something strappy and/or flowery that I won't wear for at least another 3-4 months. It sits in my closet — laughing at me everytime I pull out the puffer jacket!Amazing photo!!
February 17, 2010 at 4:36 am
O.K. This is probably my all time favorite of your photos. Seriously. It is beyond beautiful. Just unbelievable.
I am sitting here trying to figure out what to say …
February 17, 2010 at 5:00 am
GORGEOUS!What a beautiful photo!
February 17, 2010 at 5:29 am
wow, this is one of the most beatitul pictures on your blog
February 17, 2010 at 5:31 am
To me, it´s like spring clothes are out earlier and earlier each year, I saw some on racks before Christmas. One of these days it will be perfectly in season for the opposite hemisphere, wonder if there are any good australian or brazillian online clothing shops..
I sort of understand, I like seeing new clothes, I just think they might bring some new winter clothes or have winter and spring clothes coexist. I just bought a miraculously-found warm rainproof coat on sale and a very thin spring blouse. The coat is making much happier. Having things hanging in your closet unworn months and months sort of destroys the mood, the first time you wear them it´s not like you love them as much.
Actually it could be a good business innovation for some store to have a mini collection showing up actually on the weather. Coats in January, swimsuits in July, they could check what sold well early season, make some more conservative designs, check weather trends and produce fast a small collection. It is a hole in the market and it could make a killing. When you want a coat in January or swimsuit in July you will pay what you can for anything decent and not wait for sales.
And consider children´s clothes, adults can plan and stockpile. A friend was complaining her son gre more than she expected this winter, and his winter coat no longer fit, she can find nothing. It´s crazy. It´s a child, it has no last winter´s coat which can do in a pinch.
February 17, 2010 at 5:39 am
wow stunning photo ….so romantic!!but heels in the snow?? really?? please dont tell me this is not a staged photo as then Id have to believe this woman is crazy….
we're sweltering here in Sydney and the shops are full of woollen knits and coats…
February 17, 2010 at 6:18 am
The lady is fabulous!
February 17, 2010 at 6:35 am
OMG the Labout's in the snow are ACE. and i freak out when its raining and/or half to walk in skyscrapers! BOO to me and WOOP WOOP to her! excellent shot! Ciao from Milano!
February 17, 2010 at 6:47 am
Get English MTM gloves online. Chester Jeffries will cater to all tastes
February 17, 2010 at 6:49 am
Such a great picture!The snow,the clothes,the fabulous shoes..It's like a scene from a movie..Stay warm Scott!
February 17, 2010 at 6:54 am
A breath-taking photo! Thank you so much!
Haha, my husband is having the same issue. He's resorted to using my teal ones to dig out our cars.
February 17, 2010 at 7:05 am
Two words: street vendors.
February 17, 2010 at 7:08 am
Wonderful photo… and yeah… quite grumpy commentary ;)
I empathise with that… cause in my central european country is snowing, and snowing, and freezing 3rd month already, and it really makes me sick :(
February 17, 2010 at 7:13 am
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this foto!! It's great!!! BEAUTIFUL!! …and the shoes, I want her shoes!!!! lovley!!
again,… WONDERFUL foto!!!
Feel the real worlds pain, fashion elitist… sorry I've been reading Going Rouge.
February 17, 2010 at 7:19 am
Am I the only person who thinks the excessive wearing of Louboutins by celebrities and the countless counterfeits sold worldwide detract from there 'cool' factor? They've been overdone, and have always looked to precisely too thought out and prissy. It's not a bad photo, but the 'latest craze' shoes detract from any originality in my eyes. I hate when someone obviously wears a brand name.
February 17, 2010 at 7:21 am
i love how dramatic this photograph is. she's such an inspiration, for having combined the all-black look with a pair of classic louboutins ♥
oh and, i also wonder why fashion shows are very fast. while it's still winter, they've already featured the spring-summer 2010, even the fall-winter 2011. wow! but that's great for me; i love quick progresses. :)
alme of madrid
great photo… louboutin effect
February 17, 2010 at 7:23 am
I had the same problem the other day, sold out everywhere.
February 17, 2010 at 7:25 am
It's been years since I've seen snow. i miss it. i miss wearing gloves too.
February 17, 2010 at 7:28 am
This photo is magnificent!http://www.coquettishfacade.blogspot.com
February 17, 2010 at 7:29 am
Vraiment merveilleux !
February 17, 2010 at 7:56 am
Hi, thank you very much. good job.
February 17, 2010 at 8:07 am
yep, superb photo, but it amazes me that someone would wear louboutins in this weather. did she ruin them? could she walk on the slippery sidewalk?
February 17, 2010 at 8:20 am
cashmere gloves on sale for $9 at club monaco!! warmest i've found so far. leather gloves go for about $30.
February 17, 2010 at 8:26 am

We love New York
February 17, 2010 at 8:32 am
Love this picture!
February 17, 2010 at 8:57 am
I was able to buy ski gloves at Dicks…full price…why weren't they on sale?!?! I love the Louboutins sticking out in this dreary weather
Hola!!! What a great photography you do… I'm a fan of your work!!!
February 17, 2010 at 8:59 am
I've worked in retail for 10 years and every year I worked the numbers just seemed to be tougher and tougher. I think part of the problem in retail right now is that we are getting way too far ahead of ourselves!!!!!!! A touch of anticipation could be a good thing.
February 17, 2010 at 9:06 am
I agree 100%- odd that this is the case in most cities. Scarves and gloves are such a fashion staple and should be available in colder climates from fall through spring.
Preppy NYC Gal
I completely agree! I am so happy somebody else pointed this out too. It does not make sense that all that is sold in stores is bathing suits, shorts, and t-shirts while its snowing outside!
February 17, 2010 at 9:19 am
One of the best photos I've seen here yet! And I've been following for a good year now… (maybe it's time to say hello? :)The falling snow is marvellously effective, and the shot seems almost black and white but for the red soles of the shoes (even the rust brick doesn't stand out too much)… Old World elegance meets punk chic – but most of all, I think you've managed to capture that fleeting mystery of seeing a stranger on the street but feeling like you know them… I love it.
Sweetwine and Snowflakes
February 17, 2010 at 10:01 am
Louboutins! Not the most sensible but definitely the best statement for this photo, what a contrast with the black ensemble and the snow! Stunning!
February 17, 2010 at 10:02 am
Wow, what an incredible shot. She is so creative, and brave, as in she must be cold but doesn't care. Wow, love the tonal blues and the stilettos. Lovely winter shot Scott.
As for the gloves, order them online and have them shipped overnight. We buy our gloves from a shop in London, can't remember the name but when I think of it I'll send. They are made by hand, and last forever as long as you don't leave them in a cab.
February 17, 2010 at 10:05 am
This is my favorite photo of NYFW. I love the peep of those red Loub soles. I agree that it is completely absurd and ridiculous that it is freezing (literally) and there is no where to buy a pair of gloves (or hat or anything else for the current season)…last year we were in Florence and I bought about 5 pairs of gloves at a shop thinking about the very same problem that you are complaining about. I'm set for a while… :)
February 17, 2010 at 10:21 am
You do not need any gloves.Or if you think you do, great excuse to go back to Brasil!
February 17, 2010 at 10:22 am
such an amazing photo! those shoes!
February 17, 2010 at 10:49 am
rain+jack would love to knit a pair of mitts for you!
We knit to order in our Seattle studio. Our fingerless mitts are great for photographers…
Been a fan of yours for years, this photo is amazing! Thanks!
February 17, 2010 at 11:08 am
I have had the same problem here. If you dont buy them before winter your fucked.
February 17, 2010 at 11:13 am
I bought men's gloves at Hermes the other day. Nobody makes gloves like they do … :)
February 17, 2010 at 11:19 am
Fantastic photo…flash of red against the snow reminds me of Schindler's List which is bizarre to say the least x
February 17, 2010 at 11:38 am
love that photo.
February 17, 2010 at 11:42 am
I can't find gloves either ^^ well,I can't find nice gloves.I love the photo btw!
February 17, 2010 at 11:45 am
Nice shoes!!!! The red bottom shoes must be on sale, I have seen women everywhere wearing them.
February 17, 2010 at 11:46 am
I thiks this is my favourite photo of the winter. So poetic.
February 17, 2010 at 11:56 am
+ we do love to talk about the weather…
February 17, 2010 at 12:42 pm
I was saying the same thing to myself just a few days ago, only I was looking for a warm hat. This is a beautiful photo with those red shoe soles. Bravo!
February 17, 2010 at 12:43 pm
One of your unique photos. Memorable!
Julia, the Thanksgiving Girl
February 17, 2010 at 12:50 pm
The system is definately wrong lol The shops are full of spring merchandise which we can't wear now, yet we're already plannign what to wear once the cold comes again with FW2010-11 runways… What the heck, really? :)
February 17, 2010 at 1:07 pm
Awesome photo! I love the shoes. xo
February 17, 2010 at 1:26 pm
"Amen brother!! It's time to do away with this antiquated retail system that doesn't serve our needs."
I agree with this!

This is my favorite photo! Fantastic!!!
February 17, 2010 at 2:52 pm
How about a short trip to Woodbury Common?
February 17, 2010 at 3:26 pm
This photograph is beyond beautiful, so stunning and the loubs are just the perfect hit of colour on a drab snowy day. I adore this photo! If you get a spare second check out my blog; http://www.dazedyoungmess.blogspot.com
February 17, 2010 at 3:34 pm
I had the same problem in Stockholm!! -15°C and no cut gloves in shops anymore…I love this picture <3 thank you :)
February 17, 2010 at 3:50 pm
Great photo, but I hope she doesn't ruin her beautiful shoes in the snow!!
February 17, 2010 at 3:53 pm
CLASSIC, CLASSIC, CLASSIC, CLASSIC! Red Soles CL – Classic
February 17, 2010 at 4:17 pm
It's totally freezing out there and with all the snow, I bet everyone's shoes are wearing thin. Well, try these tips for protecting your shoes as much as possible in this nasty weather:

I was in NYC these days…freezing and looking for gloves as well…well, I found many pairs at century 21 (WTC)…I got one moschino for 70 dollares…so cheap and chic! ;)
February 17, 2010 at 4:25 pm
I'm Spanish, and I want to say that Spain is the same. In Madrid it is snowing and in the stores only have summer clothes … the world is crazy. I love your blog. Mila.
Ana at Les Flâneurs
February 17, 2010 at 5:04 pm
I love the aesthetic – the red soles make such a strong statement.
February 17, 2010 at 5:05 pm
Ugh I agree! Spring stuff isn't exciting to buy when your freezing to death. I don't know how they even make sales right now.
February 17, 2010 at 6:27 pm
Probably the best picture of The Sartioralist.
February 17, 2010 at 7:03 pm
i love the shawl and skirt. i wish i knew what the skirt looks like!
February 17, 2010 at 7:22 pm
Oh don't worry, just wait. In a couple of years, the stores will be so advanced into the season that they will be selling winter 20xx stuff in Feb 20xx.
February 17, 2010 at 7:26 pm
so sexy! that red is sick! louboutin is genius!
February 17, 2010 at 7:43 pm
Mail order, next day Air. I love FED EX.
February 17, 2010 at 7:48 pm
I've got exactly the same problem in London!
February 17, 2010 at 7:51 pm
Ooh. Thankfully, I'm not the only one who wears heels and flats in this weather.
Stay warm, Scott!
February 17, 2010 at 8:37 pm
I'm in love with this shot! Beautiful image…
February 17, 2010 at 10:42 pm
Unreal, Mr. S., you just keep getting better and better! Loved hearing your conversation with Elvis, too.
February 17, 2010 at 11:33 pm
this is even more ridiculous in Minnesota where there there are 3 foot snow banks on every street. what has replaced the displays of boots and wrist warmers (truely a godsend in -10 degree weather)? swimwear. SWIMWEAR! its 23 degrees out, i haven't seen the sun in 5 months and i'm going to try on a bikini? I don't think so.
February 17, 2010 at 11:45 pm
Pic could hang in a museum. Just love it, & your eye. ~ [email protected], a fan
February 18, 2010 at 3:46 am
This shot reminds me of Picasso's blue period. Beautiful shot! Love the shoes!

Meanwhile, in Melbourne, Australia, all I want is bathers and all I can buy is gloves. Maybe we can trade?
February 18, 2010 at 5:15 am

These LB's are gorgeous! The photo is so eerily pretty. Great job!!! Oh how I miss wearing BLACK shoes somedays! :) Do you have any good tips for shooting photo's of your own feet? (seriously). Thank you Scott! xo

Fantastic photo, one of your best !
February 18, 2010 at 8:23 am
Great photo. And, yes, I have for years hated the way the seasons affect one's ability to get certain kind of shoes or clothing.
The other thing that always bothers me is colour trends. You know, when every thing in the shops is two colours and they are colours you wouldn't be seen dead in. I'm lucky this year at least as green is my favourite colour.
And those buyers! Gee, why does every shoe in the store have 9" heels. Can't we have some variety? And what about all those navy tights that get left at the end of every winter?
February 18, 2010 at 8:56 am
beautiful shot. great eye!
February 18, 2010 at 9:09 am

Sir, I have such photo-envy right now. I've never seen anything like this….It's 21st century Brassai or Cartier-Bresson.
February 18, 2010 at 10:12 am
Don't tell me about it – I once sprung a leak in my boot just about this time of year in NY, and I had to duct tape it for the rest of the winter :-(.You can always do the old socks-on-the-hands trick?

February 18, 2010 at 11:16 am

This picture almost looks like a painting. BEAUTIFUL!!
February 18, 2010 at 2:34 pm
Love this photo. I hope you found some gloves.
February 18, 2010 at 2:50 pm
Oh really! there is nothing new in this. The retail industry never has the items you need for the season. They have been running a season ahead for years, and some of us who don't have the luxury of planning ahead, or the organization are regularly caught out. Try getting a sparkly dress during the Christmas season. Holiday decorations on sale in September, back to school shopping in July when the children have only just left school. It is sheer madness. God help you if you arrive from abroad unprepared. And I don't know if you have noticed but it has been worse in the last year of so (since the economy crashed)…..each store is trying to get stock in earlier and earlier in order to get your business. I wonder they haven't cottoned on to the possibility of lost business from people who need things presently, not in the future? And snow or not the photo is divine…..although I can't imagine teetering around in such shoes in such weather (sigh).

Great shot! I love the red in her shoes. It's the "salt'n pepper" of the picture.
She Wore It Well
February 18, 2010 at 10:47 pm
This is seriously the most freaking cool picture ever. But the poor lady looks like she's freezing and I don't imagine the snow to be doing any favours to the poor Louboutins!
February 19, 2010 at 4:20 am
I totally agree! I was in Rome last weekend and it was really cold but there was no way I could buy a pair of gloves! Why fashion time plays in prestissimo? The lady walking on her Louboutin is excellent!White, black and red on the soles! Amazing!
February 19, 2010 at 4:18 pm
I was thinking that last week. I walked by a few stores that had their spring wear already in the window!! Then on Saturday my boyfriend and I were down in NOHO and saw a girl walking in a VERY short skirt with no leggings or tights on but with high boots on. All I could thing was that her area had to be freezing! Then waiting for the bus in our area of Brooklyn we saw a girl with a hoodie, short shorts, and Uggs on walking around like it was spring outside! Nuts!
February 19, 2010 at 5:47 pm
hey scott, check out paragon.
February 19, 2010 at 6:03 pm
Imagine what it's like in Finland, piles of snow, -20 degrees and the spring/summer in the shops. I agree, Something seriously wrong!?!
February 19, 2010 at 9:44 pm
I agree! It's crazy!
February 20, 2010 at 12:22 am
Gloves should be like soup, always available when the weather turns cold. Or like umbrella vendors that pop up out of the ether. Houston has not a glove to be found and we often travel to Denver or NYC. Not to mention gloves are notorious for going wayward. Starbucks, you have a new mission to warm our hands as well as tummies.

Christian Louboutin is genious. The workmanship is impecable and the signiature red soles are always eyecatching.

Really beautiful picture.

LOL. I know exactly how you feel and I couldn't agree more.
February 22, 2010 at 7:13 am
I love, that despite the snow she manages to look dazzling in heels, and not just any pair. Chapeau to you for capturing the moment.

This photo is so beautiful.

February 22, 2010 at 9:09 pm
I completely agree that there is something wrong with this system. Why do we force the season? Whatever happened to the providing for the need for "buy-now-wear-now" items?
February 23, 2010 at 8:44 am
I bet the lady in the picture is the fabulous Anna Dello Russo!!!! C-mon Scott, tell us the truth!!!
February 23, 2010 at 9:10 am

My roommates and I had this exact gripe the other day. It's quite ridiculous. Perhaps you can go to one of those Indian NYC souvenir shops?
February 24, 2010 at 5:15 am

This woman is devastating…good God!She appears to be sauntering away from a murder scene…I love it!
February 27, 2010 at 12:22 am
Europe! I just bought two pairs of lovely Italian gloves in a little store in gothic Nice. All they sell is gloves and scarves. Imagine that! Gloves and scarves 12 months a year on the sunny French Riviera! Seems to work, the store has been there since my first visit 5 years ago.
Yes the US consumer machine is, if not broken, badly tweeked. Needs are seasonal and scheduled and if your needs don't fit the season and schedule . . . too bad for you.
March 1, 2010 at 12:56 pm
Who's that woman ?.. Appearing, then going, laissant des bruits de pas, une image, ses chaussures…
March 3, 2010 at 5:31 pm
What a fantastic flick, it's so complete! I think it's the best one i've seen on your site yet.
March 5, 2010 at 9:06 am
Please don't blame the buyers. We are the ones whoe have to accept and pay for merchandise in January that we know we won't be able to sell until April.
March 10, 2010 at 8:28 am
Hey Scott, c'mon, why dont you tell us whether or not the lady in the picture is Anna dello Russo!????
March 10, 2010 at 10:57 am
I bought all my spring clothes during those days. It's cool because you get the best stuff before people actually invade the shops trying to get stuff. I'm an early bird when it comes to season's clothing also, I traveled to Peru where is summer time so I started wearing my spring/summer collection early this year. yes! Also, nobody wants to buy winter at this time anymore. We already bought all the winter stuff a long time ago and don't really want to keep wearing it for two full seasons. :) but I love you any ways
March 19, 2010 at 8:53 pm
love her Louboutins in the shot
April 9, 2010 at 2:25 pm
I had this exact same problem with finding gloves! I was in Copenhagen airport in Feb. It had been snowing for about a month and wasn't showing any sign of relenting. I was looking for gloves in the airport duty free but they were absolutely not to be found! Everywhere was summer stock! Crazy!
April 29, 2010 at 12:54 pm
my fave photo by far! the way her louboutins pop – stunningthis is my comp. backround and everyone loves it!
June 25, 2010 at 6:29 am
I love how the red undersides of her Louboutins stand out in the horribly snowy weather.

Unfortunately, behind all the designers that infuse their clothes with their passion stands a guy or a company that only wants one thing : that art ought to be transformed in cha ching. Lots of it. So yea, humans monetize even the passion nowadays, hence the lack of utility and the exces of overpriced future to be used clothes.
Great photo btw ! :)
