I love long coat, but I prefer when they are oversize, like the two other photos!

Yes that’s great!
March 29, 2013 at 4:24 pm
agreed. the color-pop on the hat is fantastic.
March 30, 2013 at 11:39 am
I love me a big big BIG coat! He looks good.

fascinating pop of red!
March 29, 2013 at 2:49 pm
LOVE HIS RED HAT SUPER SOPHISTICATED
March 30, 2013 at 7:50 am
“Sophisticated”? What do you mean? I don’t understand …
March 30, 2013 at 11:38 am
I agree completely. Oversized clothing looks sophisticated. Its very fresh after all the overly fitted skinny sleeves we have been seeing. Well said.
March 31, 2013 at 10:01 am
maybe we did not understand each other, I was referring to the red beanie. I would love know how sophisticated can be a common red beanie, that’s all.
March 31, 2013 at 7:15 pm
OK. I will try to explain my thoughts; Just because its simple, and its a staple, useful item doesn’t mean its not sophisticated. It gives him a great pop of color, and helps emphasize the oversized proportion of the coat. Of course I doubt he gave it that much thought, because most elegant people simply know what goes. The hat goes great. That makes the outfit sophisticated. If the beanie was lying on the ground alone it would not be sophisticated, but here it is because of the whole thing.
April 1, 2013 at 5:07 am
I take note, but the adjective “sophisticated” I don’t think is the most appropriate in this case, imho.
April 1, 2013 at 6:15 am
I agree Martine. I was just looking at his beanie and thinking how many I’ve collected during my lifetime and don’t wear. Like you said, it really looks effortless yet gives a great pop of color and personal style.
March 29, 2013 at 2:55 pm
Taking over-sized to a whole new level, love it!
in the dead of winter there is nothing quite like getting lost in a massive wool coat.
March 29, 2013 at 3:09 pm
Dear Scott, I am trying to think like you teached us to think but I don’t like this outfit. There’s no balance, no elegance although he is dressed carefully. It looks a bit nerdy. I think you can wear whatever you want but if there’s no balance it hurts the eye. Of course he’s still young and experimenting and I hope he will go on. I am 64 and still wearing heavy guyliner.
Greetings from Amsterdam

Wow! He has a great style! :)
You are very right, the right fitting in the shoulder makes it better. I don’t really need coats but I would need heels with these as I am only 5’4
March 29, 2013 at 3:19 pm
slouch coat and a red beanie – way beyond perfect
March 29, 2013 at 3:44 pm
Such a lovely picture. And such a pity that it is so cold in Europe.

I love “cocoon” coats. Awesome.
March 29, 2013 at 7:19 pm
the hat and glasses and his small head throw off the proportion……yes it fits his shoulders but….lol……picture a great looking guy with long hair
March 30, 2013 at 11:40 am
I like picturing a great looking guy with short hair…like the one in this photo. ;)
March 30, 2013 at 10:41 pm
to each his own…
March 30, 2013 at 10:47 pm
Is this your good looking guy with short hair and a red hat looking confused lol
March 29, 2013 at 7:25 pm
Like the fabric of the coat. Would have liked to see the top button of coat undone in favour of lower button, or coat undone completely, to see more details or geometry in outfit.
March 29, 2013 at 8:53 pm
…. sorry but it’s looks terrible. The hat color is cool but the coat… no way
March 29, 2013 at 9:19 pm
I love it all until the hem of the coat. I hate those skinny pants so much on everyone, just hate them. And then the clunker boots. Such a beautiful coat, beautiful beautiful, ruined by the clumpy footed twig legs. I just don’t get it.
March 29, 2013 at 10:03 pm
I agree! It really has to fit in the shoulders.
March 29, 2013 at 10:45 pm
His sense of style feels so similliar.

Great option for cold European weather!!!
March 29, 2013 at 11:02 pm
Great tip on the fit of the shoulder, I didn’t know that…though I find the cocooning effect really comfortable too…
March 29, 2013 at 11:45 pm
Such an interesting silhouette for a man’s coat. Definitely caught my attention!
March 30, 2013 at 12:44 am
Love the length not too sure about the fit. He does look comfortable and that’s important

March 30, 2013 at 9:25 am
Love the contrast between the hat and coat, great photo.
March 30, 2013 at 11:45 am
I love oversized coats. This is a great capture. For one thing they are actually practical. The fitted coats with tight sleeves are next to useless because they can’t be worn over much more then a t shirt. An oversized coat cowes overt a jacket or a t shirt with equal comfort and grace. I especially like when worn with very short hair and ankles showing to get that great contrast so you see a revealed neck, graceful thin wrists and ankles. Its androgynous and sexy and just beyond cool. Can you tell I like this??
March 30, 2013 at 10:51 pm
Go for it maybe the Sartorialist will take your photo
March 30, 2013 at 11:48 am
Scott, why don’t you ever ask the person where they got their coat from so those who read the blog can see in the flesh; the coat’s texture, fit and PRICE?
Especially since you have based this post around one such item.

Personally I’m not a fan of below-the-knee coats… well, better, of coats in general, even in winter… hehe my mom hates me because of this… :)
March 30, 2013 at 12:29 pm
I want that coat and that kind of fit it got….any suggestion???

I would say the hat and the glasses really set this off! Looks so cool

March 30, 2013 at 3:31 pm
Below the knee coats have been out of style? In the winter?
That’s a foolish trend. Good it’s coming to an end.
I am usually fussy about shoulder fit, but I like slightly big shoulders on a warm coat as you can but more jackets and sweaters under it when it is really cold. It’s an old fashioned look, I guess.

I love long coats but dislike this sort of bell shape… I don’t think it would be flattering to any build. I much prefer greatcoat/classic overcoat lines. The gentleman clearly has a fine sense of personal style, though!
March 30, 2013 at 7:19 pm
Very out of proportion. Neatly worn, but reminds me of a duck.
March 31, 2013 at 4:03 am
Love the jacket
March 31, 2013 at 7:46 am
I love his outfit and above all his “red hat”!
I am from Rio and I am flying to Berlin next 2nd April, and I will take an old, beautiful and
large K. Hamnet coat. By the way I am 66 years old; I think I should know what I like by now!
March 31, 2013 at 12:36 pm
not really a fan of the oversized coat, but love the red hat
March 31, 2013 at 4:13 pm

I love plaid, and the shape and size of the coat!
March 31, 2013 at 7:09 pm
Love the first of the two “here and here”. She looks perfectly smashing, and lovable. Stunning and sophisticated. I want to recreate it but I have no idea where to get it! Love, love this look. Thank you!

I love this type of fit of a coat on a man – it’s somehow unexpected, but still something seems classic about it.

Please don’t forget that in some parts of the world we are just getting the woolies out of the cupboard for the onset of winter, so don’t stop with the cozy-lookin’ stuff. Very inspired by the awesome boxy-shaped coats coming up this year! And plaid.
April 2, 2013 at 12:57 pm
he has something about Harry Potter
April 2, 2013 at 11:46 pm
I’ve been noticing a trend in slightly oversized, architectural overcoats in menswears lately. Over time I see it, I pin it to this Pinterest board: http://pinterest.com/stylesquared/oversized-overcoats/
It’s a hard look to pull off. I think the key is for the coat to look intentionally oversized. Otherwise, it can just look ill-fitting.

Oh puh-leeze. He looks like a cross between a large nerdy Edward Norton and Jacques Tati who is very French and very iconic. Drop the Edward Norton.

Both nerdy AND cool. He could be in one of Edward Gorey’s books.
