I published my visceral reaction to this photo, so you’ll have to excuse me for sharing my honest opinion. But, this look isn’t at all fierce to me, just looks crabby or bitchy. Hmmm? Is that considered bullying!? So hard to know when you’re retro like me ;)
Btw, I don’t have to like everything that everyone else likes and furthermore I’d guess that this “otherwise” beautiful looking woman wouldn’t give a fig what either of us think of her look.
Your right Anne Marie, You totally have right to your visceral reaction and to think the portrait is pretty or not…My reaction to your comment was visceral as well…With everything going on politically right now the comment that if only she was smiling hit me in an unpleasant way…Whether she’s fierce, has bitchy resting face, is posing – or anything else I think she looks amazing.
PS If you are a woman you probably have been told to smile by jerks on the street and it’s super annoying.
Lets not make it about politics, because i think that shoe belongs on the other foot. ,Its men that have to9 worry, and women who are not punished for “remember” assaults that took place years ago, just in time to make trouble for men running for office. =Duke Lacrosse/Crystal Magnum anyone? Frankly, her pose is about the only thing this picture has going for it.
Have to agree. The whole smile for me thing is dated and condescending. A lot of professional models do not smile, but instead look fierce in campaigns. Let’s promote that instead of “I’m harmless, pleasant, smiley.” Inconclusive.
My comment is neither outdated nor condescending. Unfortunately you took it that way. The woman in the photo looks like she has a lot to be happy for , to smile about. Yet she does not. This so called “fierceness” pose is only a tendance, for the moment. ( in this particular case since I can’t read her mind, and don’t know her, I can only guess her reason/s). Btw, not smiling is NOT a new look for professional models either. Like most things, especially in fashion, it isn’t new or original.
And, what is wrong with looking pleasant or friendly? A smile does not render you harmless. In fact, it can sometimes do the opposite.
In any case, interesting discussion.
What a dress ! what a face ! She is absolutely stunning.
And to go on the anecdotal, I am always fascinated by the ability to cross the legs this way : I absolutely can’t slide my foot behind my opposite calf while crossing my legs. Il find it so elegant, ant anglo you can cross your legs and not take so much space.
Beautiful and such a Paris pic. The legs, attitude and pose. Who cares if she smokes. I have people in my life who do things I would never do and disagree with and I love them still.
Great shot! http://www.pippihepburn.etsy.com
