Look at that playful look on her face. I wish we knew what was going on in this picture. Look at those awesome wide leg pants. And I wonder if there’s a significance to that hat? And I love that he’s trying to buy something, but that man behind the gate is too engrossed with the woman. Very charming picture.
If its in Ukraine, then its NOT Russia. Judging by the hats that they wearing (part of tatar’s national/folk dress) its either Crimea Pensinsule, or South Russia, where there a lot of Tatars n these hats r a common thing.
I think this is what separates you from other street style bloggers, Scott. I noticed you don’t just post pictures about what people are wearing on the street, you expand your topic into other areas and allow your readers to collaborate. This has created a very unique and more personal community on the blogosphere. You are not just one of the first bloggers to do this, but one of the only bloggers as well. Keep it up.
Beautiful photo! I guess it’s the first vintage photo from a formers USSR here:)
Just to answer the questions about Ukraine and Russia. Ukraine used to be part of USSR, considered as a republic but still part of one country at the time.
Now it’s an independent country that has common borders with Russia (and Poland btw:)). They speak their own language and encourage their people not speaking Russian. But that’s politic stuff. Thanks god we’re in fashion:)
I know all this because I am Russian (living in London though:))
Well said Kate, I was wondering why people was writing about where is the picture taken from!! Olya (the owner of the picture) wrote already what the picture is supposed to be! More then google something, read properly. We have learned reading before “googleing”:)
It is indeed a great and nostalgic photo… thanks to Olya and Scott for publishing.
I love your blog Scott.
Further I agree with Suzannka, this photo may be taken from the southern part of Ukraine with numerous tatar population leaving there, sine the hat that this young man is wearing is part of their traditional clothing. Also.
TaniaPoli very well clarified the question about Ukraine and Russia. I am also from this part of the world presently vealing in Toronto

Hello! I live in southern Russia on the Black Sea coast. Photography appears in Uzbekistan (Republic of the SOVIET UNION in the past) the people national hats peoples of Uzbekistan, is called tûbitejka)))
I wonder if this photo was taken in Odessa, Odessa was always renown for it’s particular style and amount of fashionable people.
The dress is wonderful, but the man’s high waisted flared leg pants.. amazing!
Olya, do you have any idea where and when was that picture taken? I’m curious, because the girl looks strikingly similar to my mother and her father escaped as a 10-years-old boy from Ukraine during the World War II. I would be very grateful for any information. A.
