Look at that playful look on her face. I wish we knew what was going on in this picture. Look at those awesome wide leg pants. And I wonder if there’s a significance to that hat? And I love that he’s trying to buy something, but that man behind the gate is too engrossed with the woman. Very charming picture.
If its in Ukraine, then its NOT Russia. Judging by the hats that they wearing (part of tatar’s national/folk dress) its either Crimea Pensinsule, or South Russia, where there a lot of Tatars n these hats r a common thing.
maybe this is ukrainian or russian girl. but this photo was taken in asia like turkmenistan or uzbekistan ( USSR republiks) . it make clear by their head caps and swarty skin men behind the girl

Beautiful photo! I guess it’s the first vintage photo from a formers USSR here:)
Just to answer the questions about Ukraine and Russia. Ukraine used to be part of USSR, considered as a republic but still part of one country at the time.
Now it’s an independent country that has common borders with Russia (and Poland btw:)). They speak their own language and encourage their people not speaking Russian. But that’s politic stuff. Thanks god we’re in fashion:)
I know all this because I am Russian (living in London though:))
Olya clearly states that she’s from Ukraine. Ukraine IS NOT Russia. It’s a different country with a different language! C’mon, you’re online, just google it!
Well said Kate, I was wondering why people was writing about where is the picture taken from!! Olya (the owner of the picture) wrote already what the picture is supposed to be! More then google something, read properly. We have learned reading before “googleing”:)
It is indeed a great and nostalgic photo… thanks to Olya and Scott for publishing.
I love your blog Scott.
Further I agree with Suzannka, this photo may be taken from the southern part of Ukraine with numerous tatar population leaving there, sine the hat that this young man is wearing is part of their traditional clothing. Also.
TaniaPoli very well clarified the question about Ukraine and Russia. I am also from this part of the world presently vealing in Toronto
