I’m guessing this was in the 20′s? Perhaps on the Riviera? I love the man’s stance, and he looks sexier than any guy I’ve ever seen in a Speedo. These two look as if they’ll finish off the day with a lot of champagne and seafood and fun with Scott and Zelda, etc. Love it!

Compelling…..I want to know all the stories behind this. Where, when, who, why…..? What a lovely study in black and white. Thank you for glimpse of a long ago beach day.

The vintage photos you post are so evocative. I immediately start to wonder who these people were and what their lives were like. I wonder if people will be thinking the same thing about your photos in decades to come.

I like the position of the man so masculine, and I like the passive woman: a photo with contradictions, I like it :)

    Merci Merci :)

That’s strange; I thought Cape Town. Do you think it could be Hout Bay with Chapman’s Peak behind? Trouble is there are too many houses in the background and Hout Bay would have been farmland then.

I noticed the passivity of the woman as well. Compared to the photos of the women on the scooters and others in your blog, I th9ught how much more freedom we have now as women. It is kind of sad for me to look at these old photos with the women trussed up. She has to wear socks and shoes, a hat and dress, and be guarded at the beach… I prefer the women playing volleyball in Brazil to this…

What a beautiful old photo! I would guess the location is the French or Italian riviera, but those beaches aren’t very sandy, mostly pebbles actually.

This is actually my grandfather – he was Austrian and a simple carpenter at that time. He was born in 1905 and the photo was taken in tje mid 1920ties. Where it was taken is actually a mistery to me as well, could be italy or the Riviera, but maybe “just” a lake im Austria or Switzerland.

Very much enjoyed all your phantasies though – and I know he would have too!
