The epitome of relaxed chic! With such a great smile he can easily be placed in the ‘Robert Redford – Paul Newman” cool category!
Greetings from Thessaloniki, Greece Scott!!!
Keep inspiring us with your photos!
the hair!!! the SHOES! What a handsome, happy man. I’d say late forties, but it could have been taken today except for the gorgeously svelte waistline. Those days are gone.
This photo proves than one can be casual and elegant at the same time and this look can be reproduced nowadays with the same ease.
No more sloppiness in the name of comfort !
I love the simplicity of this photograph and they way very piece of clothing subtly reveals a man with a unique sense of style, and who has mastered the art of dressing.
Look at the Italian, cap-toe shoes and right away, you get the sense our friend knows a little bit about building a strong foundation, and working his way from the bottom, up.
@Conni. I don’t know If i would call this look “retro”. I think it’s a look that could very well today, albiet probably with a pair of trousers with a more modern cut. Other than that, I think it’s a look that I could very well see walking down the streets today.
Such an elegant man. He can carry pleated trousers because he is so slim, I love him. I just bought shoes like the ones he is wearing, mine are made by Italian shoe maker Gravati I’ve been looking for a pair here in the US and in Europe. Found them at Bergdorf.
I think it’s late forties early fifties, but he would still have been considered very desirable when I was old enough to start noticing c1960. The hair do is not ‘short back and sides’ as they tended to be post WWII, however the waisted pleated pants and shoes do fit. Maybe ‘Mad Men’ time frame.
It seems to capture a great atmosphere. It’s simple, but I think it tells a story, especially because it’s in black and white. When photos are in black and white I find I often focus more on the mood and subject of the photograph.
How does he wear this while managing to retain his respectability? As a man that’s roughly the same size, I would feel like a twig in that outfit. At first glance, my answer is “it must be the pants”… but I’m not so sure. But then, at second glance, I think, “He really does look like a twig”. I guess this one isn’t for me.
OMG, this is a handsome and stylish man. Very confident. What a gorgeous pic! The only minus: I would like to know more about him. What did he do, what is his name? What’s his story?
I love the contrast between the person in this vintage photo and that of the High Holborn photo below it. These two people are projecting something totally different. How fascinating! I love the ease of this smiling man — not at all contrived, and so approachable. How delicious!
great pants.. bring them back NOW.. i’m tired of the sloppy butt hugging profile of pants these days.. like hip hop it just won’t go away or evolve.. pants with belts around the waist (and not the butt) are so slimming and fine
I can’t help but compare this photo with the one that follows on your blog. They are both approximately the same age and in the same place in life separated by several decades. I can’t help but think that we are de-evolving…
