Anyone know the year of this Barneys spot? Before or after the edgy 1980 “American Gigolo” film? (Richard Gere’s character’s lush wardrobe there, was Armani’s big break into Hollywood and the US market).
Though the promo’s style is dated . . .
Giorgio is timeless.
Barney’s was so good in the eighties and early nineties. Alas, no more. Armani was as GW Strand posted, so cutting edge in conjunction with the film ‘American Gigolo.’ In fact the wardrobe was practically the star of the film. Together, along with Wilkes-Bashford in San Francisco and Maxfield in L.A., they reinvented American men thinking about fashion and having style. Thank you to the Pressman family, Tommy Perse, Jerry Magnin and so many more great American merchants with vision.
