Even though I find bullfighting to be inhumanely cruel to the bull, the grace and strength you've captured of the bullfighters in these photos is gorgeous. Is that a touch of Hermes at the waist?
Gorgeous shots. Especially the first one. And I'm amazed no one has commented on the second one. Those pants are vveeerrryy tight… http://www.blinklondon.com/
OK, the pants are a little tight in the second one. This is one hot stud muffin, I can't believe his looks. I like the chaps or whatever you call them that he is wearing in the first photo. Also, the light is incredible in this shot, rather warm and a little yellow. Makes me wish I was there, just for the sun. Is Spain this hot?
The first image belongs to Sebastian Palomo Danko, Spanish bullfighter and nowadays boyfriend of Olivia de Borbón, public relation of the brand aristocrazy, (http://www.aristocrazy.com/) for which Scott Schuman, (http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com)has collaborated in the advertising campaign.
the first photo is pure fashion. high waisted trousers. silk cummerbund/leather harness perfect white ruffled shirt with detailing that is not seen anymore.
so many designers have 'borrowed' from this look.
early 1990's references: gigli high waisted trousers. versace leather harness. touches of chanel in that ruffled shirt…and hermes in that silk cummerbund.
didn't linda evangelista do an editorial spread once, dressed as a toreador/matador?
these men are amazingly beaufigul. masculine yet romantic. and the colour way is so of the moment. hahahahahhahahahahah red and earth tones. kind of remind me of prada a/w 10(i think?) hahahahahhaa the worriro woman collection with the v neck fur dresses. hahahahahaha
I love the toreros look and all the colours and images you can feel in a plaza de toros. The leather pants he´s wearing are called "zahones". ¡Ole, Maestro!
I really think this would make a beautiful editorial layout for menswear– matadors represent masculinity at it's height, but with a delicate finesse. Is that not what great menswear is all about?
Well, what can I say, the pics are beyond beautiful… to those who say this captures the essence of Spain.. I wouldn´t say that much, I´m from northern Spain and there isn´t a strong bullfighting tradition but it´s more of a celtic culture…I don´t like bullfightinng, I think it´s cruel, but what I always notice is that ther´s always a chance for Anglosaxons to show their so-called "superior morality", would they say so if it was part of their tradition?( and I say it again I hate bullfighting), I´m so fed up with stereotypes.. and no, Spain is cold in winter, actually it´s snowing today here in Madrid. But anyways good work Scott.
Phenomenal shots, absolutely magnificent pictures. I never consider the beautiful subject matter of different cultures. This will surely serve as a reminder to allow the color of all the worlds cultures to shine through my work.
Very nice series. I love that we can see a torero / matador in conditions closer to training than corrida. It puts a different light on the whole story.
some of your most amazing photos in awhile the outfit he has on is exquisite in its detail and so beautifully worn. great lighting and great shots thankyou for the fantastic inspiration. winnsomesmile.blogspot
It's already been said…but the word Matador doesn't exist in Spain, he is a Torero. I am a young spanish lady who likes the bullfighting, although I admit it's pretty horrible to kill the beast, but the art around it is magnificent. Splendid pictures, thank you Scott.
Sebastián Palomo Danko: great style, not as good a bullfighter as his father though… Better known for his good looks rather than his job in Spain. Absolutely stunning: white shirt + leather, what a perfect mix!!
I'm in love… All the pictures are beautiful, the first one is smoking hot!!! The other thing that cought my eye is that red wall… Can a wall be sexy? I would love to make it my desktop. I'm definatelly visiting spain very very soon.
I used to think bull fighting was cruel and unusual but perhaps its popularity is not inspired by the destruction of a beast but the beautiful man in the amazing attire.
actually for those who are saying the word matador is incorrect….are u seriously spanish people?xdd for all those who arent from spain…a matador is the torero who in fact kill the beast at the end. hope i helped out ur doubts :) btw!bull fighting does represent spain and our culture :)
I don't particularly fancy bull fights but the attire of the matador is simply beautiful! and when a gorgeous hunk wears the attire, I am speechless and in amazement.
uuggh people: bullfighting is not the 'soul' of Spain. It is a minimal part of it's history. and there are so many different types of 'corridas' – not all kill the bull or even torture it. educate yourselves, please!
having said that the pictures of Sebastian are fantastic. the 'zahones' are beautifully tooled and worn; ruffled shirt with eyelet so Spanish. MEN in Spain are not afraid to look beautiful – it is the way we are brought up – from the children's being dressed as dolls to the 'traje de luces' the toreros wear. It is an attitude of pride and real manliness by birthright. Nobody can take that away from us.
Bullfight are very cruel. Even if the clothes may be beatifull, involves animal harm. I will the desappear early. Meanwhile we must ignore the estetic.
This, the first, is one of the most beautiful pictures I've ever seen. Is that his personal style, or is it a fashion shoot? Perfection!! True perfection!!
I love the hand gestures and the curled forehead. Sometimes the feeling we get when we look at a photo is a "yes!" in awe of color and beautiful textures, but sincerity of the moment is very special too. I want to know what was on his mind and this transcends the richness of fashion and glamor. Wonderful shot!
Please tell me where I could possibly find a typically white camisa such as bullfighters wear……..
Is there someone in Spain who produces them? Would love to have them for my boutique in Paris. For Men and Women!!! These pictures were very inspirational for my spring line.
Love that you went to Madrid! My favorite European city, always overlooked because of flashy Barcelona…I think Madrid is the place to be. So much visual stimulation at 'las corridas' (bullfights) no? Beautiful pictures
I love Spanish men. They are so sexy and beautiful in a way that American men just don't get. He's totally at ease in these photos and revealing. Wonderful work.
I am from Spain, actually, I am from the south of Spain, land of flamenco and sadly bullfightin.
I love your work and these pictures are beautiful as all the rest. However, what they represent make me feel embarrassed and ashamed. Just the word "matador" is embarrassing. This means "killer", and that's exactly what they do, slowly and cruely.
As someone else said, please, do not see Spain as that. There's much more beauty in our country.
Brilliant photography! Based on these photos, we at ManhattanMakeovers.com are going to start recommending that our male clients adopt the bullfighter look as part of their casual wardrobe, along with tennis and golf looks.
this fashion lark.

But anyways good work Scott.

uuggh people: bullfighting is not the 'soul' of Spain.
