“The Independents” is an overview of some of the growing crop of independent men’s magazines. Each seems to have a unique voice and vision and will hopefully find an audience all their own.

Dapper Dan isn’t about trend, it’s more of a thoughtful and intellectual magazine.  It sort of skirts direct talk about style and gets more to the spirit of it.

And the title is a bit of a misnomer. It’s all black and white; heavier on art than the other independent men’s magazines.

It’s almost like a magazine for dudes that don’t want to be part of a trend, or ignore them all together.

You sell Dapper Dan most excellently well! A magazine for dudes who don’t want to be part of a trend – bring ‘em on. I’d especially like to meet the bloke with the mask at a party – most intriguing.

The Gentlewoman is a good example of such a magazine for women.

Something I’ve contemplated–Fashion and Philosophy–intrigued by the changes in fashion throughout history.

Love the cover. Digging the super edgy BDSM (inspired?) mask.

The mask is a Walter Van Beirendonck piece. He’s a avant garde Belgian fashion designer.

    The cover reminds me of

    -> “Ausstellungen” (‘exhibitions’)

-> “Schätze der Weltkulturen – Die GroĂźen Sammlungen: The British Museum”
(‘World Culture’s Treasures – The Great Collections: The British Museum’)

    see golden mask from Colombia

Magazine that is against trends? The best is definitely “The Rake”. The sartorial version of the Wall Stree Journal….just lots of great articles about every aspect of mens clothing.

Dapper Dan is created in Athens, Greece by the most talented fashion editor Nicholas Georgiou and amazing photographer Vassilis Karidis. I’m proud that I know them. I’m proud that it is born in Greece.

      Hi Catherine,

Dapper Dan actually has a web site that is pretty informative, and even features some of the articles from the print editions:

      Hope that helps!

Actively trying to not be part of a trend, when everything is about trends and succeeding is incredible. Love this.

Awesome! Amazing work by the multi-talented Ismini Adami, the magazine’s creative director.. She should return to London and show them how it’s done!
