I shot this story for Italian Vogue Pelle last August. As you know, magazine editorial budgets are extremely low, especially in this economy. Instead of packing up for an exotic location, I shot this at the hotel where I spent Summer vacation with my kids.

The Hamptons, Italian Vogue Pelle
We didn’t officially ask permission to shoot there, so we quietly ran around the grounds with a hair stylist, makeup person, fashion stylist, tech person and four or five assistants…. you know, a typical vacation day.

I love these shots, makes me wish for summer already. The ease of dressing in summer vs. the layering and boots and gloves all winter long. I love the sandals, the jeans with the applique. I don't see any pastels here at all.

Really gorgeous fashion photography Scott. Thanks for sharing it. I love your blog. There is a clear distinction between your personal work and paid editorial. I would hate to see the best fashion blogs losing integrity as they become increasingly influencial. You're very inspiring for me.

Love the story behind the shoot! I'm surprised and tickled you had to sneak around the hotel – it reminds me of when I had to take photos of design stores for a class assignment and was forced to use all the sleuthiness I learned from watching old episodes of the pink panther to avoid getting caught photographing the stores' "not to be photographed" displays/vignettes. Unlike your lovely photos, the pressure of being discreet combined with my sadly lacking photography skills resulted in a rather poor production ;)

What was the point of showing these staged photos on your site? So the stealth styling and photographs are nice — big deal. I thought your purpose was to show the spontaneous, inspiring, interestingly dressed person, which you do so well.

i love this editorial. i especially love that your work (both personal and editorial) doesnt look super-enhanced, photoshopped etc. The light, the model, the setting – all looks so natural. as an amateur photographer I find it very inspirational – in a weird way it makes me think that i could take photos like that too one day. In fact, it would be fair to say that both your and Garance's work is what got me into photography in the first place (although i dont photograph street style or anything of that sort). Much love!

I like how everything has that worn look to it and it isn't so prim and proper as one would usually guesstimate (is that a word? oh well. I'm using it.) to be with the usual preppy environment of the Hamptons.
Instead, these pictures provide the dreamy escape of what summer vacation could be like for everyone to relate to.

Tis is brilliant! Amazing photos, I especially love the first one with the bicycle, it reminds me of the place where I go every summer, where we only use bicycles to go from one place from another, and hence to the beach!
And my second favourite must be the one with the boards, the LV bag and the ping-pong rackets. I love it: sounds very summery and family beachouse to me!

The pictures are beautiful. My little beef is about shooting with props–I may be wrong, but she just doesn't hold that boogie board like it is an extension of herself. Ditto if people are photographed playing musical instruments. Holding it doesn't mean you can use it, there is just that twinge of something that is amiss.

This is amazing. I love that even in a shoot for a magazine as swanky as Italian Vogue, you and your crew were running around like a bunch of kids trespassing on their neighbor's property, looking for a baseball they'd knocked over the fence by accident.

my earlier comment was that there is a clear distinction between your personal work and your editorial work – but I wasn't referring to the quality or relevence. You have a great eye. So may others focus mainly on trends. Your images have enduring relevence and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your editorial and other projects. I loved the little film you posted by Garance at the end of the fashion shows. I know that joy of working with a creative partner. I hope to show you what I'm working on too one day!
