Lovely, quite wonderful. A slight pity about the way too oversized shades, but still, brilliant. This and all the other photos from the Dries show, Sart was clearly inspired!
Personally, I think the use of the pearl necklace and the fur collar really highlighted and accentuated the length of the necks of the two women (I’m not trying to say that they look like giraffes.)
And sunglasses with hexagonal frames? Seems like the peace sign is missing somewhere, or else we’re back to the hippie 60′s.
I may be biased because this is my favorite John Currin painting but…I love this. There’s a lot going on (the glasses, the necklace) but because of the muted tones it all works together.
Oh, your photograph is so beautiful, so much better than the Currin. It’s more like an old master, but with sunglasses. I think it’s your best photo yet.
that image is amazing…and it’s even more amazing that you made the connection between it and painting. when I looked at it, it seemed eerily familiar…and after the scroll-down, good grief! well played, Mister.
this is really awesome. and they both have a sense of secret luxury, the currin painting with the fur, and the girl with her awesome pearl necklace. good job.

I want to know when we are going to see ‘the satoralist’ the book. It would be great to have it layed out with some art work like the currin or vemeer’s intspersed that reflect a historical/artistic satroalist counterpart to some of your photos. Love it
But that’s the problem with these oversize sunglasses: the wearers look the same, or the sunglasses minimize their individuality at the very least. I’ve seen packs of girls rendered identical by them. Not my favorite trend, surprise, surprise.
cool. okay, now do “the scream.” can’t wait to see who you’ll use for the model, but i’ll bet you could find any number of candidates backstage at the shows ;-)
I second the suggestion for a sartorialist book. I’d buy it.
*And as for the photo, I like commenter laia g’s take on it: ‘sense of secret luxury’ is such a great phrase to describe both the photo and the painting. Lovely.
Great shot and genius association. The same word came to my mind as previously posted when I saw these two…uncanny. I’m curious: what year was the Currin painting done? – JCH

I love pearl necklace. It makes her look sophisticated with some kind of casual shirt. I also like the shadow on her face.

I am so sorry I don’t know anything about Mr. Curran’s work, but now, thanks to you, I will research it!
BTW I am loving the fact that your shot captures the exquisite soft details of her shirt and the sheen of the pearls is captivating.
