One of the most unique and positive personalities in the fashion world, and also an amazing expert on fashion history and design
Her presence will be missed and her style never replicated.
Take inspiration fashion lovers: Use fashion as an expression of your inner joy as Anna did!
Good question. I think there is room for all of them. We actually need more, at the fashion shows and roaming the street! I’d like to add Daphne Guinness and the fabulous Iris Apfel to your terrific list of creative, individualists. Iris is my personal fave, it is an absolute delight to look at her. At 91 years young, she recently designed a makeup line for MAC. With her trademark round, large, black glasses, she is spot on every time. Such a beautiful inspiration.
All are lovely choices; my strongest vote also goes to the incomparable Iris Apfel who is without peer. I still carry the Coach bag she designed for Coach in 2008. ..because I love it and it is perfect, not because I am a big Coach fan. In addition to the MAC you share, she has a line on HSN, which is madly funky and is coming out with her own handbag line in the fall, so I’ve heard tell.
R.I.P to the most fabulous peacock there ever was. I can imagine everyone waiting with bated breath for her arrival at fashion shows. In this day of cookie cutter fashion and celebrity stylists, it is a rare thing to see people truly expressing themselves with fashion. Anna Piaggi balked at the idea of conformity -she did it on her terms – with flare, exuding pure joy.
@ Sart – keep up the good work showcasing creative, individual style.
Our world needs spirits like this…to teach and remind us that style/fashion is more than the clothes we put on…it is how we express and share our true self with the world. Anna inspires me…she will be greatly missed.
It’s really sad, along with Isabella Blow. They were such exotic birds and made fashion so much more fun and extravagant. I think they inspired fashion to be a lot less mundane, and I hope that heritage doesn’t get lost as the years go by.
When watching things like Fashion Television etc., I had often seen this woman at the fashion shows. I’ve always wondered what her roll is, this post just inspired me to google her. The photos you have of her here have such a sense of fun and eccentricity. I especially love the last photo.
I like the fact that she almost never smiled;what a great contrast with her colorful, outlandish outfits;it was probably part of her personality. If she had been a smily person she would’ve probably looked somewhat… clownish, a bit off?? But her frozen, icy, expression, in contrast with those crazy outfits inspires awe and respect. It’s here where you can see she had a thourugh understanding of herself. She was obviously very liberal, and she must have had a liberal childhood, otherwise she wouldn’t have kept so consistent in her style.
may she have a peaceful journey!
