All my life I have hated Hawaiian shirts with a passion.
I do like that in the first picture it is paired with black slim jeans and those boots. It is unexpected and cool. I still hate it otherwise.
In the second picture though, if it wasn’t tucked into that awful denim pants, it would actually be a nice combination with those bangles that echo the colors of the shirt and the awesome hairstyle that compliments his face. The background is also perfect as always. (What do you do? Do you carry people to a place where there could be no better background for your shots? Because I can’t believe that is a coincident every single time. I am jealous! My hunts are always where they should not be. It is like they do it on purpose to bother me. lol)

Worn correctly, Hawaiian shirts can lend charm to almost any look. I’d probably opt for the shirt worn by the gentleman in the last pic – prints on black tend to lack that summery appeal that many of us want.

I remember the guy in the first picture from another of your shots, is that right?
Anyway, I really dig his style!

I swear that I had the same print as the shirt in the top photo in ’77 although more of a “disco” cut.

I kind of love it that these were taken in Milan and Paris!

Used to love old Hawaiian shirts but now they just seem like you work at Trader Joe’s.

Looks particularly cool with the lighter pants.
Possibly because the shirt then reads more abstract, rather textural, being that together with the light jeans, it all looks washed out.

Prints galore! I think prints is one of my favorite fashion trends. Any prints actually but most of it was the Hawaiian/tropical prints and also digitalized prints. It’s not always easy to get the best prints, the colors and the images must be right to avoid tacky-ness.

Being from Hawaii, I rather adore them.
On Fridays, we refer to it out here as “Aloha Friday”
The working crowd can usually be seen sporting perfectly ironed Hawaiian print clothing – all day at work and of course rolling in for happy hour :)

But really, any day is a good day for Hawaiian print.

I rarely see them adorned in such a stylish way, personally, I’m pleased that the fashion world is “trending” it. If I were in Berlin and saw a man wearing an Aloha shirt (anyway he pleased) – I’d be pretty stoked!!

I’m sad that due to souvenir shops’ cheap tacky versions, Aloha shirts have such a bad reputation. I don’t think it’s different from any other item of clothing, if you can make it work, then why not?

Three points: 1) The Aloha shirt should never be worn with a T-shirt–that dilutes the statement. 2) The Aloha shirt should never be tucked in–that goes against the free-flowing spirit of the garment. 3) Like jazz, not all Aloha shirts are created equal. They range from the beautiful to the hideous.

Finally! I’ve been wearing them since a couple of years now and i’m 29. I used to get weird looks and I still do…but Its part of the reasons why I enjoy wearing hawaiian shirts.

I think a confident man can wear anything as long as he feels good doing it. Same thing with pink and other pastel colors back then. Remember Miami vice? ;)

Fashion is just that fashion, it comes and go. I wear what I want, when I want… I don’t care about someones opinion on my clothing taste.

Beautiful shirts on both gentlemen. I love the hair on the second guy. He looks absolutely great. So interesting I would expect the first to look good, but the second is even better and it surprises me.

those dudes do no pull off the aloha shirt well at all. Also those are the ugliest aloha shirts i ever seen and the whole style the models have with it just dont vibe well. Though some people pick more earth tone or a more simple patterns because its easier to match and not looking like a tourist stop sign. Aloha shirts are worn only tucked in when doing business. Aloha shirts are comfortable a lot of people on the island wear them but not the polyester crap with plastic buttons and stupid colors. and people shouldnt try to wear them and force it to be a tuxedo.
