I was reviewing my archives yesterday to look for ideas on what I wanted to wear this Spring/Summer. I found this shot of my friend Garth wearing a brown cotton windbreaker, I love the shot and realized I hadn’t posted it last Summer (so here it is!).
I love the shape of the jacket, but even more I love the idea of wearing brown this Summer. That shade of brown against tanned skin, and layered with sun-faded shades of pink or purple or even orange could be very cool. I love when I can use my own photos in such a practical way.

It’s the brown, cornflower blue and reddy tanned skin that does it for me.

I wish I had such a store of fashion conscious people to flick through when I was feeling uninspired.
It’s like you have your own personal magazine.
Browns are delicious in summer.

I like the jacket too, the shape is “comfotably sexy”.
I’m not s ‘brown’, don’t think it suits me much, but mixing it with pink, orange, purple, or blue (like in the photo) would look great.

The word Fresh comes to mind.
I love this look and you’re right Sart… this lovely jacket paired with a muted (or faded) color is beautiful.
I dig his shades too.

i like the windbreaker, especially with the watch, it gives it a smarter, ‘city’ feel. i love men in pink, pale purple or lavender (Hamish Bowles in a lavender jacket you posted last year i think??)and you’re right, those colours look great with a tan. Garth doesn’t need to worry about a tan, he has a wonderful smile instead!

I think the minimalist scarf is a great addition too. it’s a neutral pop…the color is subtle and the earth tones stand out.

i can say that ive used your photos to inspire my personal design style. thank you.
this is what i’ve learned:
layers are good
t-shirts work w/great jeans
an old shoe is not a bad shoe as long as it has history
confidence is key!

Love the look. Love the smile. A great example of the sort of person one sees on the street in Paris who inspires you quietly for weeks after. I only wish I could be bold enough to strike up a conversation with Garth if I ever ran into him on the rue.

smart that he kept all the internals a similar palette, allowing the focus on the accessories on jacket without being too cluttered.

Funny that you should comment on brown. I just purchased a cettu hobo bag in brown for my summer trip … in addition, I took an older brown hobo to the leather repair store for some TLC … I am all about brown accessories for the summer … It is the reddish brown that I love best … come to think of it … my Gucci shades are reddish brown, too … I love brown … it is mellow and wholesome …(By the way, the word verification has created a new term that I would like to associate with the color brown: purfyine!)

Sometimes my husband is clueless about how to dress himself. He's been affectionately referred to as a "rock & roll guido." Sometimes appropriate, sometimes not. I will suggest browns layered with sun-faded colors. I think he'd be agreeable with the colors, it's the layering that he may object to. He wants to be a better dresser. He's just not sure who to trust.

That jacket is a vintage McGregor “Drizzler” I’d recognize it anywhere – I have two, one a medium slatey blue and the other a rich oxbloody red. It’s cotton treated with “Cravenette” so says the label. They have a slight sheen and a smooth hand. “Washable, durable, water repellent”. I’ve had them for at least 15 years and they were clearly from the early 60s when I bought them in Seattle. I get compliments on them all the time – perfect Spring /Fall jacket.
