Wow, that little guy is already incredibly slick!! Love his shorts and shoes, and also the fur coat we can just glimpse of the woman standing next to him!
OH, this pic could have been taken in the 40's with this sepia towns and this child style. Amazing ! And i love his expression. Sweet and very stylish (the socks !).

Cuteness overload :) and with such style, retro and modern at the same time! Impeccable timing too, I was going to ask you if you do ‘kids street fashion’ as well, and here you are with a photo of this huggable kissable stylish little man. Bravo!
One night my husband and I rode the huge Ferris Wheel in Paris looking out at the Eiffel tower draped in lights. Just as enchanting was the 3 year-old gentleman sitting with his father across from us, speaking French and dressed to the nines in a suit with a vest and tie. I think many European children are dressed this way – trained to look businesslike and proper.
I love that most little ones are styled this well here in Madrid. It´s so pleasant to see them dolled up like that, its like going to a different era.

he´s so cute with lovely expression! i like his socks and boots ;-) great pic wit the right background! i just would cut off the right edge of the picture, the coat doesn´t fit.
By far my favourite photo in a long time! Maybe just my soft spot for adorable children, but he is so well dressed and his little pompom socks.. and his hair.. and I just want to pinch his cheeks! haha beautiful! x
Someone wrote above, the happiness in his eyes. I have to agree. He is adorable, but mostly it is his happy expression. Yes, I'd be happy too wearing that.
I read your post name and I thought 'young Madrid=…a 12 year old stylish girl'…and right after that BOOM!: the little guy showed us his awesome socks :) Lovely! Iris
What a fabulous and wonderful shot!!! He is just so cool! Look at him – his socks, shoes, trousers, everything about him! Just fab – this guy has character!!! Thanks for sharing!
Actually, this outfit is rather practical, save the pom-poms. I dressed both my sons in monk straps (classier than velcro, more immediate than tied-up oxfords). Also short pants and knickers are wonderful for non-trippable movement. They need to come back to America! Love the braces and the collarless shirt. I really like it when little boys are dressed nicely. So often you can see in the same family the little girls dressed with some style and their brothers looking like Archie Bunker or some sagging laundry sack.
@previous post: I like leaving the coat in the picture. Otherwise, it would just look like something from a catalog. Also, having it there plays up the vulnerability and the innocence… having mama just within reach.
This is so brilliant, what great style and I love how he is pulling up his shorts so you can see his socks. Too cute. http://mylabyrinthblog.blogspot.com/
I actually exclaimed "oh wow!" when I saw this photo… a lovely child, and so stylish in his monk straps (he's making sure you see them; must be a junior sartorialist).
Families walking together & talking in the evenings are a common sight in Madrid. I'd wager that if you caught this little guy's family on film, they would be equally stylish. Here's to the best dressed toddler I've seen in years! Thanks, reminds me so much of Madrid!
Squeeeeeeeal!!! This young gentleman reminds me of a friend's 5 year old, who always insists on dressing up to be "just like dad", right down to the leather wristwatch and tie. It takes some powerful convincing to talk Buddy out of the dress shirt and suspenders when heading to the beach. I would love to see again, in a few years, this budding sartorialist.
Wow! He is just gorgeous, and this is such a charming image. I think sometimes people forget the pleasure that children can take in their clothes. I bet his pom pom socks are his favourites. Memories of a pom pom fringed top I had when I was about three…
SEE!!! that's what Spaniards inculcate to their children from a young age… My mother did to me, and I'm passing it on to my kids… even while living in Canada. No sorry-looking children on my turf. QUALITY not quantity.
i am too curious about this cutie's mom. as a mom of 2 kids around this little guy's age i would love to see what other mommies running around doing mommy things are wearing. can you show her to us? or other moms for that matter??
Awww, my heart is melting. What a gorgeous little guy with a great personality. Love the pom-pom details on his socks. Congratulations to his mother for getting him so well put together!
Very classy madrileñito. I have actually seen this style on many Spanish toddlers when I lived in Madrid, which seems to be typical of a certain social class. I think it's simple and looks great.
There are so many cute yet classy things for babies, toddlers and kids nowadays, and not necessarily pricey. I know I wish I were as stylish as my 15-month-old daughter!
OMG I sell those socks here in Australia. They are called pom-pom by Le Big which is based in Holland. We sold them for girls, how totally divine on a little boy!
His parents have style. That's how my parents dressed me when I was little. They helped me grow into the person I am now by showing me that following trends isn't the way to go. Hopefully this damn fine little man will be just as beautiful when he is older! Bravo to Scott for capturing the moment.
OMG! This is fantastic! When I lived in madrid I wanted to take so many photos of all of the children because the Spanish children are all so well dressed. I love it!
Spain is the only country in the world where children are dressed as if they jumped out of the 50's. A sound sartorial foundation to become a very classy adult ,love it!
i love the fact that this little man's clothes are smaller in the same proportion for him as a man who's grown up too fast in his own clothes! sweet and smart!
The little boy is really cute. But there are lot of little children dresed like him in Spain, everything very much coordinated and in every colour. And usually they are from posh families. But the boy is adorable.
Love and love and love and love, and I agree that, moreso than the clothes, the expression is just priceless. The ONLY qualm I have is that those pants look flat out impractical for potty training / changing diapers. I don't like when children's clothes sacrifices form for function, but this is just too adorable.
Now this is how children should look! No fleece, no velcro, no nylon, no sneakers, no vulgarity, nothing nasty anywhere. The Europeans have always been very down with that. In America and England, where I've lived, it has not been good since the Fifties, alas. And I bet his granny knitted him that lovely sweater. You go, little man!
I actually live in Spain and a lot of kids are dressed like this. Families dress their children, on saturdays for example, when they go to church, in the same color, the girls and the boys or with the same patterns. It is a very classic style I adore. Specially when you see little girls with huge but not vulgar bows in their hair!
i just love it! thank god i can say most of the children here in madrid are dressed this way… but if you want to see really stylish kids go to sevilla!
Had to come back…one more comment on this major "heart melt".
the wonderful lovingly combed locks,,,at the adorabele faint front baby hairline, it looks like a perfectly exaggerated mustache of say, a funny magician, ;-). does me in!
and then, and then those smiling beautiful brown eyes, straight off the runway from heaven, perfectly match his heart melting smile and happy, but vulnerable/close to mom/nanny stance.
i have been very sick and through hell in hospital, and was just praying for a sign of "hope"! ah, Scott, i think God heard me, and sent you to find a cherub, complete with chubby fingers and kness, showing off his elegante pom poms and big boy shoes with such angelic Glee! it worked.
A la Meis, "god is indeed in the details" and sure does work in mysterious ways!
thanks, Scott, for delivering hope, and heart melt right on queue! Garance must have fainted/sobbed over this too! Gratefully, Annabella
I'm usually just a quiet observer of your blog, but I must say this photo just made my heart melt (and want a little boy of my own so I can dress him just like this!)
i lived in spain for 6 months in sevilla and saw boys running around in parks dressed like this everyday… I guarantee you the mom is walking around in heels as well!
There is just something about Madrid.. The people there are of a different class, and each one, beautiful and intriguing in their own way. This little guy is THE BEST! Big Love for your blog :)
This little Mr. has the purest and sweetest smile. He's a natural before the camera… and yes!!! he raised his shorts so that we can catch a good look at the pom-poms dangling from his socks. I love this pix!!
thank god most of the children in spain are dressed this way…if you want to see really stylish kids, go to sevilla! they all look like this adorable little sartorialist!
Shopping is not a pleasurable pastime for me, however for our little granddaughter I am relentless in my pursuit of clothes that are well-made and classy. I think we need a holiday in Spain!!!
[And I am appalled by the selection in both Canada and the USA as most is relentlessly pink (or purple) and printed with some obnoxious saying such as 'Daddy's Little Princess'.]
I swear they dress children the best in Madrid! My brother was born there and spent his first 4 years in that beautiful city and his childhood photos are equally fashionable;)
I do the children's liturgy in my church and despair at the way the kids are brought to Sunday Mass. Many of the girls have not had their hair combed. Their clothes are ghastly.
When I was small, my hair was all done in nice plaits, with bows. I had pleated skirts and hand knit cardigans.
Absolutely priceless! I adore his entire outfit and he looks so proud, beautifully photographed, his expression has been captured for eternity. Major kudos!
This is the most gorgeous photo of a child I have seen! I don't have children, but I'm sure his mother must be so proud of him and she puts so much love into the way she dresses him so perfectly.
I have been living in Madrid for a long time and I really have to say that I always hated this kind of clothes for children: Uncomfortable and beyond "pijo" which means snobbish. But I guess it looks very european from the outside… The lil boy though is very cute :-).
He is so amazingly adorable! He seems to know he looks great with that one eyebrow raised. Also, do I detect suspenders under that sweater? So darling.
Adorable child. No doubt. But the outfit he wears is very, very common in Madrid, Sana Sebastian or Barcelona. Altough, only the upper class kids wear this kind of knitwear, but brands like Boboli, Neck&Neck, & other ones, does this kind of "preppy" jumpers, o shorts like this, for a kids since I was also a little child. If You walk for a while around Serrano Street, Passeig de Gracia, or Neguri, you'll see a lot of childs like this.
Absolutely perfect! But why does everyone give Kudos to his Mom? I read the Sartorialist but my Wife doesn't. I buy my Kids their dressier clothes. Remember…Dads might also have a part in this!
A chic chocolate cream "bombón". Nothing special: Only perfect. This style is very frequent in an spanish child for a walk in the evening with mom. The special is the inusual chocolate color in a baby and more probable the good quality of garments whithout concession (that's so rigorously spanish) to a fussiness bad taste.
OMG no word to this little adult.. Look at the pom poms on the socks, and that shirt and sweater.. just so adorable, love love love this little boy:) http://www.periboz.com

Spain is the only country in the world where children are dressed as if they jumped out of the 50's. A sound sartorial foundation to become a very classy adult ,love it!

Gratefully,
Annabella

Shopping is not a pleasurable pastime for me, however for our little granddaughter I am relentless in my pursuit of clothes that are well-made and classy. I think we need a holiday in Spain!!!

How lovely.
I think this little fella is wearing a hand knit.

A Goya's infante in state of grace.
