I saw this young lady doing fashion sketches in Union Square the other day. I thought there was something so charming in how lost in her own world she was while she worked.
I just stood there for a little while, watching and trying to figure out how to capture the moment. Suddenly, the clouds opened for a few minutes and the sun bounced off her white notebook, lighting her face perfectly and basically creating the image for me.

She’s creative and focused, yet mindful of her handbag.
Stolen moment; inner life. Theatrical lighting.
You seem to be going through a Vermeer phase.

This photo is magic! I also like the way she is caught up in her sketching not paying attention to her surroundings but she seems so content.

Just beautiful, reminds me of my 8 year old son and how oblivious is to what is going on around him when he is focused on something. Very sweet.

She’s so beautifully abstracted in her world! I love it when you give a bit of a commentary on how and why you make your pictures…it gives us great insight into your thought process.

Instantly drawn to this pic, too. It really captures the city — both as it always has been and how it is, uniquely, at this very moment. Love her “drag!” The eternal uniform of urban youth, female division. Mightn’t a young artist in Berlin of the Thirties or Paris of the Sixties have dressed very similarly!

Gosh… you could read so much into it; is she an art student on a grant, is she afraid for the future, or just enjoys the present moment… Is she a coffee of tea person, post-punk or electro pop music lover…
