On The Street……True Elegance, NYC

Talk about Elegant.
What I really loved about this look was the mix of a very classic Chanel-ish core ( the jacket/blouse had a great peplum detail in the back) mixed with an almost edgy Comme/Yohji shawl.
The women I have seen “of a certain age” that dabble in Comme often go a bit overboard and the Chanels get a bit dowdy but this lady has done a great job adding a little edgy to her couture. Of course, I have no idea if these items are Chanel or Yohji or Zara but you get the idea.

    Sir,

Your appreciation for the classic is commendable.

Very elegant, you’re absolutely right. What fastened the shawl?

I agree. This outfit does a great job of avoiding matronliness without making the woman look like she’s trying to desperately recapture her youth. If only designers would give more respect to this demographic.

Do you have a separate advice column? If not, you should. I have a thousand questions.

I’m guessing magnetic clasps? Either way, she looks great.

How do you get people to pose for you? When I was in New York, I found people rude, always in a hurry and definatley not in the mood to have their photograph taken.
How ever do you do it?

WOW!!! I feel like I should be paying you for your commentary! Your photos are top quality & your writing convey’s your personality like we’re having a 1-on-1 conversation. I look forward to seeing you either free-lance for a big time magazine (if you haven’t already) or reading your own created magazine.

You were right on about the “True Elegance Woman”. She’s an inspiration. Also the woman wearing the mens cloths by the man tailor was WONDERFUL!!!

    See you on Oprah!

    Ooh la love.

Even though she’s not sporting dead animal,

    She’s hot.

    I mean haute.

And while I appreciate your appreciation of good taste, your even suggesting that one might mix Chanel – pure, unadulterated genius – with Commes – the designer should stab herself in her face – is a little disturbing.

Yes, could be Chanel, but I don’t think so. Anyway, that is not important – Her style is gourgeous, she is not only wearing a shawl, she is wearing it with ELEGANCE and HARMONY. Grat picture … let us learn more from the elder people.

Your blog is just mesmerizing. I’m not very interested in fashion, I must admit. But it’s absolutely fantastic to see how people use style as a communication-tool. And, the photos are great.

beautiful detail of the shawl. was the photo taken near Central Park?

tcw – I’ve travelled to NYC on several occasions (up and down Manhattan) and I’ve yet to encounter the ‘stereotypical New Yorker’ who is rude. Yes the pace of life is a little faster than in other N American cities, but I also found people friendly and courteous at all levels.

Do you know what makes this? For me it’s the height of the heel. The high heel on her shoe elongates her leg and draws attention to what she obviously, and quite rightly, feels is her best feature.
