It’s been unseasonably warm in New York the past couple of days, requiring an entirely new strategy for getting dressed. I love the idea of mixing the lightness of your favorite summer dress with a chunky cardigan sweater (above) or with your boyfriend’s tweedy jacket (below) for transitional weather. I had posted these photos a while back and think they’re a great example.
We’re going to create a new tag called ‘transitional dressing’ that I hope will inspire you on crazy days like this!!

I love when you can use summer pieces in the fall, the weather really has been lovely in New York, which means you can wear light pieces like the ones you have posted. I would love it if I bumped into you and would be an honor if you took my photos, but a girl can dream. I would love it if you checked out my blog, I have interesting fashion posts you might enjoy reading.

Both photos are gorgeous. On the first one I love the use of complementary colors and on the second one the lovely backlight. It always looks so flattering! It´s one of my favorite light settings while shooting.

Warm autumn temperatures always spark great creativity when it comes to layering and unusual combinations of prints/textures/lengths. A great time to experiment with a more relaxed and slightly bohemian style.

Great idea! During these warm weeks it’s much tougher to throw something together… today I went with slouchy jeans and a blouse, but earlier was contemplating a dress (with or without tights?)

I’m glad more girls are wearing their cardigans backwards! It’s such a practical option sometimes! And YES! to transitional dressing. It was such a day in Singapore today and it was nice to be able to break out the sweaters and not perspire buckets!
Love the chunky cardis and complementary hues together!

Hmmm…….i think that a cardigan with buttons on the back is a very nice idea. Wearing your cardigan backwards, however, is just daft. The thing has a certain shape and fit for a reason you know. It just doesn’t fit the body as it’s supposed to.
The second one is just so very romantic.

The first girl is really stunning, the cardigan was a genius thing. It shows creativity and that there’s no rules when it goes to street style. The polka dots is really a great touch as well, very playful and with vintage touch. Just amazing :)

I love “transitional dressing”. That’s what we are doing right now in Atlanta, too. It was 70 degrees here today! But it’s fun going back and forth between your winter clothes and summer clothes. I feel like I’m scrambling to wear my favorite summer items in a creative way before the weather goes definitively cold.

Not keen on that particular back to front cardigan. I think it works much better with either with a short, more fitted cardigan, or as an evening, backless look. But it has to be a carefully chosen cut of knitwear in any case. I have a friend who often wears the btf cardi as a signature look, and it can add a bit of surprising elegance to an outfit. This one just doesn’t work for me though, although the colour combination is great. That said it is a fabulous photograph, as usual.
Love the second shot, she looks adorable and makes me wish it were autumn in the UK again. She has fabulous hair.

Not sure about the backwards cardi, it looks a little strange. Love the post on transitional dressing though. I’m in California, and this is a time of year when it is difficult to dress because the mornings and nights are cold, and the days get pretty warm. I’ve been layering up with vintage sweater and old-man style cardigans!
