Bravo, Sartorialist – these girls are stunning! Look at the skin, the hair, the eyes, the winning smile – particulary like the super short hairstyle on both girls, with such beauty and good bone structure you can really pull this off. Love the grey jacket with the black hankie peeking out, good choice of color for the shirt underneath. Also like her watch and wrist accessories and her subtle manicure. Lovely photos, very inspiring.
Love both of them! It's funny, at first glance the second woman looks stern and conservative… But look closer and she's got a smile that's just dying to come out!
I am so glad to see that short hairstyles are coming back in. They just look so much more classy and refined. I hope that short hair catches on again for young men. I am so tired of the "shaggy" look.
Beautiful shots! Love their hair and the eyebrows of the first one. I have short hair myself ever since I was six years. It's very easy, I barely have to do something about it.
Such beautiful androgyny! LOVE the eye brows in the first. They bring out the lively character of her features. Also, hope to one day own that Hermes watch.
Can't really see first lady's haircut. Hate the eyebrows — too severe. Androgyny is played-out and, at this point, is actually kinda scary. Second lady is stunning in every way. And what a Mona Lisa smile!
I love the haircuts, but as usual its something inside the people you choose that makes them look more attractive. I think most people in your pictures would look well in almost anything.
wow. the first picture is so .. captivating. short hair is so cool.i really like her eyebrows and watch and bracelets too. here is a nice piece on short hair, thought you might like to see it. http://www.paulwhkan.com/pq/shorthair.html
I like short hair on the 20something set but otherwise I think it's not flattering…and long hair for those in their 30s, 40s, and beyond look better with longer locks.
Two great shots. The first is my favorite. Love the Audrey Hepburn eyebrows and delicate features. One must have a certain "look" to pull off a haircut this short and still appear feminine if this is what you're looking for. I love, love, love, her grey blazer and black shirt underneath. I love to wear my blazers with the collar up like this, very sporty and "Lauren" looking. I'm a growing fan of the double wrap watch band and the multiple layers of bracelets. The other photograph although nice, has too many rough edges in her look for my taste. As I said, you've got to have the look to carry off the hair.
Short hair is a slippery slope I think – it can easily look quite manly (great if that's what you want) if you don't have petite features, if you don't wear makeup and/or jewelry, or dress androgynously. I think many men prefer women with longer hair for whatever reason and a lot of women buy into that even if they'd like to chop their hair off. I wonder how many people, both men and women, do whatever they want looks-wise without considering if others will also find their look attractive?
These shots prove something that this short-haired lady has known for a while now: the best thing about short hair is that people tend to look at your face rather than your clothes.
Yes the first girl is so perfect. Wonderful eyebrown made up. Garance already shoot her a few months ago, she was in pink harmony, a liberty shirt (or did you?). Already perfect. Anybody knows her ?
Go ahead and cut it short but remember if you're not this hot you will end up looking like Janet Napolitano. Or Nathan Lane…psst are they the same person?
Both are beautiful. Everything about the first girl, especially. Lapel, brows, smile…
I am thrilled that short hair is back. I chopped all mine off a few months, similar to the second model, and haven't regretted it for a second. It's so fresh.
Women who stay very feminine even with this hair style, such amazing!
The first one has a Cape Cod watch by Hermès, my dream. When I'll earn my life, I always tell myself that is my point to buy one (how materialist I am).
I have worn my hair this short and it is amazing, you feel naked for awhile. It's true, all anyone sees is your face. The fact that these women have astounding good looks helps. I happen to like men with long hair though.
Oh Lord! You make my day Scott. The first one is Anne-Catherine Frey. The last picture i saw about her, she got an amazing bowlcut. She rocks this cut! http://www.les-femmes-aux-cheveux-courts.com/
I use to have short hair like this. But its hard having a hair cut like that in high school so many immature kids making fun. i think it such a pretty hair cut:)
Yay, I'm not the only woman with shorn locks this spring :) The first woman wears her look very well and naturally, although it's masculine; the second's feels more severe and less natural, but still beautiful.
Love the pictures. I've had very short hair for a year or two now, and I LOVE it. (So does my husband and friends) Fortunately my hair is thick and I have the best hairdresser who cuts to suit my features. A couple of trims ago (its got to be trimmed every 4 weeks to maintain the look) my hairdresser gave me an 'undercut' style, very much like your top photo here. Like any new or "out there" style, at first I felt unsure and that it was a bit tomboyish, but I soon fell in love with it. I'm not a radical person or off-the-wall, but after reading some comments here, I highly recommed that if you have a desire to try a really short style, you should find a good cutter and take the plunge. Short hair is cool and fresh in summer and in winter you have freedom to wear all the lovliest hats, fabulous scarves and turned-up collars, without tons of hair cramping your style. This current short, short cut makes me feel very feminine, confident, and makes me hold my head up high. Ciao, L. in Oz. x x
PS Tilda Swinton has recently had an under-cut similar to the top photo, but the top layers of hair are much longer. She looks amazing too. Check her out.
Fearless beauty! These women are gorgeous…they really suit short hair. Often times I think how good fun it would be to have short hair one day, long on another, a bob on another day…but hair doesn't work like that.
The lady in the first picture is gorgeous. Between the androgynous haircut, the jacket with the pocket square that face is all woman. Courage and a crap load of confidence ties it all in.
I especially love the first photo. She is so chic, yet playful and feminine. It is not often that you see a short hair cut that so well suits its wearer, but on this woman the cut looks tailor made. :)
I think that the first's eyebrows and broad smile captures the whole idea of being feminine but unique…she doesn't look like she wants or needs to 'fit into a mould'. xxx
I'm amazed by how many people commented about the first girl's eyebrows. Usually people would be disgusted by it. Anyway, Ive tried and loved having a short hairstyle. It's refreshingly liberating. But it requires so much trimming. And its hard to grow out.
When you are as beautiful as these two, you can wear your hair in a mohawk and look glamorous!
In the 80s I had a similar cut. This was while living outside of Amish country in Pennsylvania and I remember being greeted in a store as "hello there son." I had to giggle because I am such a girly girl…
I've always loved the way some women can wear a short cut. The first girl has a playful attitude with her hair and man styled suit. The second women is simply captivating. Her hair just emphasizes her beautiful eyes and Mona Lisa smile.
The first girl is beautiful. Her smile is so radiant and feminine and it perfectly balances her style. But one question, why are there never any bigger women featured? These women are beautiful but whilst you say you don't want to emanate the typical fashion magazine look, your subjects are all slim! Bigger women have style too, it'd be interesting to see you photograph them.
Wow, it is always refreshing to see a good short haircut. The first girl is stunning. Her hair of course but even more her smile and the pose with the hand in her hair. The second girl looks nice but a little too boyish because she doesn't smile nor does she wear make up. But she is still beautiful
Both these girls look wonderful. Thanks, Sart, for the shots of short hair:I had asked for more of these last year.
I had long hair for years but now have it quite short. I find it is important to keep it nifty and trimmed, or it just looks a mess. My favourite style for long hair is just to or past the shoulders, cut blunt with long bangs. I simply cannot stand that rapunzul, ringletty look that has been in style for so long. It ruins so many chic outfits.
I adore this middle image, I'm a sort of fashion tomboy too so I think the way this gal can still look gorgeous whilst wearing a tailored suit is boss. V. http://memoirsofashopper.blogspot.com/
I love the girl with the pocket square, she's amazing! Would anyone have some more pics of girls with pocket squares? I can't find any on the web…. info@trendy-hanky.com Trendy Hanky Thanks a lot for your help guys!!! Ju.
I think you have to be really beautiful, tall, and slender to pull off hair like this. Otherwise you run the risk of looking too Walmart or much worse: like Kate Gosselin.
The top photo really illustrates androgyny. She's so gorgeous and fresh and clean looking. I do think a pair of tiny earrings would take the edge off just enough.
In love with the first pic.! She is adorable and adorable also for her significant eyebrows!Elegant with her super chic jacket , Hermes long-strap watch and her golden-bronze ring! And oh that smile! Simply Parisienne smart & elegant look, I would say! Go girl!
Last summer fashion historian Caroline Cox was talking about the history and social significance of hair. She suggested that there will be a cultural shift and after years of long straight hair, women will be cutting their hair short. I didn’t believe her at the time…… I might have to reassess!
I love that if you look closely at the first girl, and picture her with long hair, she would be just about the prettiest girl you would ever see. There's something about short hair on a woman that makes a beautiful girl unforgettable; she is like nothing I have ever seen before. I hope more people embrace the short-hair look and condradict their image like these beautiful ladies.
wonderful and inspirational. thx so much. the woman in the first picture is so stunningly beautiful. Masculine hairstyle and eyebrows yet beautiful feminine lips and eyes. who if not her could ever pull off this hairstyle?

it's time for a welcome change.
when clothing line and silhouette changes, so must hair.
my long hair was chopped 1 month ago…although not as short as these models.
the first model has a very
androgenous look…partly because of her full eyebrows and gent's jacket.

I like these. I don't think I'd let someone fade the sides of mine, though, like in the first picure! Looks great on her though!

Ciao, L. in Oz. x x

So fascinating to read the comments – I think the first image shows a style that is brave and 100% successful (undoubtedly the skin, eyebrows smile are sock-knocking off) but the second image is the one that I find mesmerising. There's so much mystery and subtle contradiction! Military influence coat with outrageously feminine bare décolletage/ boyish hair revealing the feminine strength in her face…And the light is extraordinary. Thank you!
