On the Street….Time Warp, Florence

I feel like if this was shot in black and white it could be an image from the 1930′s.

…except for the hair. that saves it from being costumey, lends it a little currency. lovely jacket, too.

It could be… Even if I would guess that his cell phone is in his pant’s pocket -or perhaps it is just a lighter-… I love everything about that jacket.

Sartorialist – if your site does anything, it sharpens everyones’
visual perception. This can be in B/W from the 30s, but how do you explain the filtered cig, much less the Range Rover…. the Lear Jet in the upper left. Rite on Sart.

I totally agree with you Sart! Why don’t you convert the image to b&w and post it?

The hat, book, jacket and cigarette(yes I’m being politically incorrect) make this look.

sure… range rovers were so much cooler back then…

    Lovely.

beautiful fit on the jacket!! i personally like my sleeves a tiny bit longer, but cropped-a-little-short is in for men’s jackets these days i know.

an average suit store will tell you the bottom of the coat should hit where your fingers meet the palm of your hand.
i dig this (jacket) look, though.

He could’ve gone without the hat and this would still be a strong look. This is just awesome. I wonder what he had on his feet…

Wow. What a cool hat, and a lovely coat, and such poise. A well groomed man is always something to be appreciated.

Great look apart from the stupid, for lack of no better term, hat. I have to disagree with it looking retro though.

The dark shirt? The finely patterned jacket? Tight pants? The loose hair?

    Very contemporary.

Well, I like the Zegna jacket fo’ sho’… but, even under today’s standards, it should at least cover your butt. I believe if you were to look at him from behind, half of it would be left out.

I think jacket pockets are meant to be used, but daaaamn kiddo!!!

The jacket + the cigarette really make this look. It’s an example of accessories legitimizing an over-sized hat.

    It’s a great photo.

I’m not sure if it would be 1930′s. Maybe if he looses his cigarette. I guess, they smoked fags without filters at that time;-)And he would have definitely shorter hair. Anyway let’s leave travel in time behind. He simply looks cute.

Austin makes a good point on the coat bottom length, it’s shorter than what’s recommend, but I like it…makes him look taller. In fact, scroll down the blog and look at the suit/jacket/sweater bottoms that fall at the guy’s wrist they all look taller (longer legs) I prefer this proportion to the recommened one we see on Mr Barbera (though don’t get me wrong, he still looks good, but he looks like he’s half top half bottom).

Would the guy’s butt be sticking out a little from behind…maybe, but my girlfriend says she likes being able to see mine.

Funny, my no.1 rule when buying clothes is “Would this item look out of place in a 1940′s (or earlier) street scene photograph?” No big logos, natural colours, classic tailoring and cuts. Great photo.

The jacket is pure awesome–though a little too short, right?

The cigarett is cool, but his receding gums won’t be in a couple of years.

It’s the hat I like best in the picture even though I don’t especially like the hat itself. Maybe it pops out at me because the jacket is so simple. He’s lovely. I don’t think he knows it, which of course makes it better.

Easy and debonair. Very very nice. I want to place his head in my lap, play with his hair and read that book to him beneath a shade tree.

The hat, the hair, the eyes, the book, and the smoke (and I’m a vehement nonsmoker)–a young scholar off to read and think. Just perfect.

I’ve looked at a lot of photos, and their all so simple, yet they all have something vast about them. Their all so sharp and clean, and their “street” people which makes all of these pictures very unique. I like this picture the most because it’s a simple man, wearing a simple everyday outfit, yet with a good angle this shot becomes what you might see on the cover of a modeling magazine.

I like everything. Even the hat. This is another example of how to mix pieces and make them all look JUST right.
Note: the guy is gorgeous and probably intelligent (unless the book is also an accessory LOL).

How beautiful. Stepped right out of ‘Boy with Vase of Roses’ by Caravaggio. He could have modeled for several…
It is his attitude, the slightly up-tilted chin that makes him rock this look – as if he’s daring you not to like the hat. Which by the way I DON’T. But if you have to see it, better on that head…

    How I envy you, Sart!

Lose the hat or change it for a tweed newsboy hat.
I’ll go one better. A nice black French beret. Goes with the long locks
