Love all the high-contrast color in this shot. Absolutely wonderful, one of those shots where the longer you look, the more fine details pop out at you. Wonderful job.
Gorgeous lighting— you've beautifully framed her lovely face. On a fashion note, I'm really loving the bold lip colors for Spring. Such a refreshing modern look.
If you look from the neck down this outfit is so masculine, and from the neck up she looks completely glam and feminine. This is by far my favorite photo, love when two different looks are combined!
I love that the leather jacket is unique, and the bold lips balance out the masculine feel. This is a perfect example of proportion and the art of mixing tough and chic!
Her jacket could have been a bit more close fitting, but then that is part of the appeal, is it not?The intrigue builds questions–she could have very well stolen it from some enchanted but jilting lover that could not resist her spell…emboldened she cuts her hair in a fit of passionate frustration and wears the jacket as armor and a bag of courage through her next adventure.
LOVE this. The whole combination works perfectly. The hair + jacket combo says one thing while the cheeky lip colour just pops it all in a different direction. And your lighting in this photo is gorgeous.
Oh how I love a woman with bold red lips! They always stop me in my tracks. Just a couple weeks ago I posted a photo of a woman named Bianca on my blog, with 40s styled hair and mesmerizing bright red lipstick.
Here, I love the worn in leather jacket. It's unexpected for a woman wearing a coat like this to wear such feminine lipstick. It's the contrast that is really interesting to me.

The 90's are back! I still love the look–I used to borrow my boyfriend's leather bomber to get this same over-sized silhouette in '94. The lighting, angle, the whole thing–great shot.
One of my favorites of yours–certainly lighting wise–since quite awhile. Beautiful.
As is this amazing girl. Ironically enough, she reminds me of Winona Ryder, who I crossed one evening, where? On Third avenue and she also was wearing a boyfriend leather jacket. Another luminous beauty.
Very '80's. I wore my hair short with lots of makeup and then some funky clothes. The eighties were actually a very cool time for women, lots of experimentation with hair and makeup, lots of different looks. Vintage came in then. It was exciting.

I just discovered your blog and am obsessed. In poring over past pages today, I swear you shot the same woman on 11/10/09- looking just as fabulous with her beautiful lips as she does here today.
gorgeoussssss! her lips of course are amazing… the shape, the color…. i love the look in her eyes too- she looks like she could cut a hoe up… "eff you pink ladies, i'm a t-bird." that's what she's saying.
Beautiful hair and makeup. I have short hair too and I think it is so flattering on any woman with good eyes and cheek bones and a face which is not too long. The jacket is crafted well with that fun two-tone finish (looks very expensive!).
Was told that she raided her dad's closet and is wearing his 40 year old jacket which he got from a surplus store!!! Just shows that you don't need designer clothes to stand out!!!
One of your best images. You should be proud. All of the elements…the subtlety, the light, the evident durablity of the jacket, the grooming, the attitude…something beautiful to remember the 2010's by. Truly relevant.
I'm not sure whether it is the lighting or the leather in the coat, but I love the black and brown contrasts in the jacket. How did she get her eye make-up to do that? I love it.
Part of me thinks she looks like she is going to audition for a role in Taxi Driver, yet it's clear that the look is her own and she's very comfortable in her own skin (no pun). I love the height of the collar and the fit at the shoulder.
Love the androgyny! The texture of the jacket is beautiful. Scott, I like the way you once in a while portray very androgynous people. It's always so interesting to see how readers react to a person with a style that makes their gender a bit ambiguous. I see no reason why this photo couldn't be of a guy with a rather daring style. What to most readers so obviously makes this person a female? The smooth neck, lipstick, facial features..? For me this is beauty free of gender restrictions, pure and wonderful. Gorgeous shot.
As is often the case with Sartorialist shots I find myself wanting to know more about the people. I can't remember ever thinking that when i see a straight-up fashion shot. These pics work as both..
Oh wow, I love a bold red lip against a nude face. It brings so much strength and feminity to the boyish woman in the picture. Such a striking look that I enjoy adopting myself.

Late 80's style… shadow right up to strong brow, no blush and strong lip. Heaven. She looks fierce.

I think this has got to be one of your top five shots ever. Everything about the lighting you captured and the way it compliments her is perfection.

As is often the case with Sartorialist
shots I find myself wanting to know
more about the people.
I can't remember ever thinking that
when i see a straight-up fashion shot.
These pics work as both..
