It seems more like an Asian (Indian/ Pakistani) shawl — the Paisley motif is typically Asian; the color scheme, the length of the material, the horizontal design bordering the motifs, the little threads left loose at the end suggests that it’s a shawl. (Also, notice the the fold and the way it rests on the shoulder.) Though am not sure if it’s Pashmina Shawl.
The scarfs/ stoles (popularly known as ‘dupatta’) that Indian women wear are slightly different in form and design.
Yeah, the “scarf’s” from India…though it’s not a scarf but rather a shawl. A shawl is longer coz it’s meant to be wrapped around you and keep you warm. This one’s probably a Kashmiri pashmina…delighfully warm and soft.
It is an Indian shawl…the ‘mango’ shape embroidery is truly Indian…ask an friend coming down to India to get you one such shawl…you get it in most good handicraft emporiums. The gentleman carries this one off beautifully in the pic! Even women can wear it over a plain tee and a skirt or pants.
OK, it’s just too big. It takes over the outfit. Tho, I think if you evened up the ends it just might work. As for “it’s a woman’s scarf”… Grrr… whatthehell makes it a woman’s scarf fergodsake! Did a woman make it? Did it previously belong to a woman? Oh, your mom had some. Didja ever think maybe she was wearing your DAD’S scarves? Sheesh!
