Been looking everywhere for -affordable- necklaces like these… Such statement pieces can make a simple outfit special, and make a special outfit complete. But I unfortunately can’t find one around here, in Amsterdam. There might be a place that sells them, but with my 14-year old pocketmoney really stunning ones just won’t get in my drawer… Maybe I’ll make one myself :)
The first necklace is gorgeous, but what I really love here is the second girl’s outfit. The red skirt/red tights combination with a simple grey sweatshirt is perfect!
I disagree that these necklaces should be revived. They look so forced and have a dated quality in the same way that certain strains of post modernist architecture do.
What a beautiful image. Not only do I love the red stockings and dress combo, but the accessories are a wonderful compliment to all the other elements. What are your thoughts?
I really like the necklaces. But woo, I have to say that the matching in the last girls outfit is really perfect. Much is more without the feeling much too much! haha
WOW, what a statement its just gorgeous and both girl’s look beautiful. If you get a chance do check out my blog, I have interesting fashion posts you might love to read.
I love the idea of doing bright color on the same bright color, as this woman did with her skirt and tights. I’ve seen it done on tights and shoes also–which is just as fabulous.
ooh, I wish I could upload a photo here that I took of something I wore recently- a vintage sequined jacket from the 80′s paired with a Maasi style multi-strand beaded necklace…somehow the opulence of both worked together…and I’m a NYer, btw
Like miniature pieces of armour, aren’t they? Michelle Jank has been making wonderful pieces like the one chosen by your girl with the red tights for ages. Sometimes made with precious metals and stones, other times resin, etc. One particularly memorable neck piece has a clear resin background and a large perfect red heart (if I remember correctly); very beautiful. Also love the feathers on the ‘dream catcher’ version in the accompanying shot. B
Big necklaces can really add to a classic outfit; better made or customised for individuality & one’s own entertainment. This type of beadwork is common in South Africa, where the different colours have meanings (the Maasai are from Kenya &Tanzania, in East Africa)
I remember thinking the same thing when I was in Paris in October (and ran into you with your bke at the Palais Royale!) and immediately started thinking of my jewelry collection and whether I had a necklace quite so massive. I loved the look of one strong, dominant accessory.

LOVE the big necklace! It totally makes an outfit (although it doesn’t hurt that both of these ladies are gorgeous and have awesome style). Check out my neon rope and vintage rhinestone necklaces on http://www.etsy.com/shop/kikinyc
Those necklaces are outrageous but in a good way! I actually have one of those large necklaces and am thinking of bringing them back thanks to these photos.
I’m not really into either of these necklaces or looks, but I like the idea of a large, chunky necklace on a short chain. I think a gold one with geometric shapes would be really pretty.
I love a good statement piece
we’re actually featuring some amazing pieces from Chanel “Secrets D’Orients” travelling jewelry collection. Let’s talk about statement pieces
You haven’t seen these in New York or Milan? Well, I’ve seen them all over the Midwest! They’re definitely a new favorite phenomenon. As a rural Minnesotan by blood, I can safely say that serious fashion doesn’t always confine itself to global centers of culture.
Te first woman with green blouse on is ECE SUKAN, a Turkish model, fashion editor, vintage shop owner in Nisansati-İstanbul, TV programmer, actrist etc; we LOVE her:)
Hey,I really love the glasses, the first one.And the necklace too,I like its tribal feel-mode..Anyways,I just want to share this cool app called “Should I buy it?”–>http://bit.ly/sibifm33–> for fellow online shoppers which you can download at iTunes that allows you to get instant feedback from your Facebook friends on whether you should buy something or not (either for yourself or as a gift).I have tried it and it is really amazing..:D
Scott, maybe you need to visit cities other than Florence, Paris, NYC and Milan on a more regular basis. I agree with Cheryl and Bess…..you couldn’t have looked very hard. Statement necklaces have been huge in NYC and Boston for well over 2 years now. I love it, personally, but since it’s been around for so many seasons, I’m almost ready to give it a rest. How is it that you’re just catching on?
Hilary Tsui is a celebrity from Hong Kong! She has a whole weibo.com filled with photographs of herself and her amazing wardrobe. love! This is a great photo of her!
For some reason, the matching tights and skirt are what’s really catching my eye on the second girl. It’s hard to match colors that perfectly, but she’s pulled it off!
She is Hilary Tsui, a famous pop singer Eason Chan’s wife, a fashion icon in Hong Kong, she is also a fashion blogger, this is her fashion blog. http://www.ligerstore.com/blog/?p=HILARY&s=1
This is one of the most wonderfully dressed woman Ive ever seen!!!! Does anybody knows who she is? hahaha, i just saw the comment upon mine :) thanks!!! and thanks to Satorialist for this amazing picture!

You haven’t seen these in New York or Milan? Well, I’ve seen them all over the Midwest! They’re definitely a new favorite phenomenon. As a rural Minnesotan by blood, I can safely say that serious fashion doesn’t always confine itself to global centers of culture.

I’m such a fan of the statement necklace! They both look awesome and I love the modern colors. A statement necklace is fun to spice up an outfit.

For some reason, the matching tights and skirt are what’s really catching my eye on the second girl. It’s hard to match colors that perfectly, but she’s pulled it off!
