I'm a corporate attorney and certainly don't wear tiny, short-waisted (you forgot black and ill-fitting) suit jackets. Regular length sportcoats have never gone out of style, and they never will.

I really think it depends on the fit of the blazer and the ampleness of the wearer. If you have hips and a butt, it's not easy to find the right jacket. Lot's of women wear the shorter jackets because they may have a smaller waist in proportion to their bottom half and want to emphasize that smallness.

I personally thought the DB suit was awful on the model, it overpowered her, which made me dislike it immensely. Now the three piece suit. LOVED IT!

In a world where femininity has come to be equated with fake breasts threatening to break free not only from the garment, but from the owners' own body, it's refreshing to see this reminder that we don't need to be over exposed to be stylish and attractive. The greats knew this–Coco Chanel, Katherine Hepburn, Ingrid Bergman, Babe Paley–and used this to great effect. She looks self possessed and comfortable in her skin while still showing some style. Well done.

I love this ensemble. The sailor-stripes, the charcoal V of her cardi, the thin tan belt and the traditional sportscoat colour/fabric. Love it. An ever-so-slightly more tailored Annie Hall.

i dont think its a bad thing that corporate attorneys aren't always in the know about current trends in fashion. i'm glad my attorney never showed up to work with studs and spikes coming out of her shoulder pads. nor would i like to see her dressed up as an english school girl, knee highs and all. she studied the law, not patterns and proportions *gasp*

Lovely photo, as always. With respect to your commentary, do you mean a cropped jacket when you say 'short-waited' jacket? And may I ask respectfully why you've busted on corporate attorneys? Having many friends who belong to that profession, I have to say that there is nothing wrong with conservative dress in what sounds like an ultra-serious and conservative business. For that matter, aren't designers guilty of fashion faux pas for continuing to design cropped jackets? Including Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, Sonia Rykiel, Brioni and Miu Miu? There shouldn't be rules in fashion. A cropped/short-waisted jacket can look wonderful on some just as a longer waisted jacket can completely overwhelm another.

She's wearing a man's sportcoat, that's why the length is different. The buttons are on the right side.

Ooh, yes! As an attorney, I have to chime in–there are way too many women wearing tiny short-waisted things. Let me keep my long ones, please! Pendletons are favorites for me–I have a gorgeous wool one with burgundy pinstripes, and those lovely deeeeeep back vents that Scott loves so much (so just come to Philly, Scott! ;) )

Everything about this look is great, including the lengthy belt, which corresponds beautifully with the jacket, and the black and white stripes (announcing spring).

I think I may have said so the other day, but this to me is American style at its very best.

Me too, totally agree that longer jackets are back again and work better for the casual/sporty style. Short length jackets can be ultra feminine, but I most prefer them worn with pencil skirt and very slim, but not each woman feels confortable or can wear that. So glad to have the blazers back, AND sholder pads!

OK, this dates me, but I had a hacking jacket in green tweed that I loved, about thirty years ago. I wish they'd bring hacking jackets back. This looks like one.
