Love the symmetry in this portrait – from their similar facial expressions, the placing of their hands and feet, and the fact that they’re both wearing dresses with socks and shoes! Quite a powerful and emotive shot! Love the backdrop too!

The girl on the left seems to be saying: “Ya talking to me? Yeah? What ya gonna do ’bout it?”
As for the girl on the right, she seems rather p-o’d to have gotten the cleaning lady’s floral dress instead of the simple black dress.

An extraordinary capture..

For me, this photo has a strong mid-1950s feel. Bobby socks, polka dots and floral prints reigned during that era, and every “nice” girl wore modest dresses. But most reminiscent of the period is what they seem to be thinking. Faced with the Good Housekeeping ideal of life for a woman–husband, children, wood-paneled station wagon, a Levittown house far from the city–they silent wonder, “Is that all there is?”
Their uncomfortable perch on the metal bar seems a symbol of their options. Will they leap into the socially-acceptable pattern laid out before them, or will they dare to explore what lies on the other side of the wall?

It’s has a modern day Lolita vibe, which isn’t really incredibly original but it’s always cute to look at. And they pull it off incredibly well, with the freckles, pigtails and socks.
