Oh my God! How beautiful she is! I've just said on last Garance post that it's been a while I've never see a really true beautiful girl… Twice in a day! Thanks, THE koople
Amazing shot. Love her hair- and that she's knitting. Love the placement of the shoes and the bag. And the green knitting needles. Yup- pretty much love everything in this one!!
Looks like a planned studio/fashion shot. How cool is that you just go out on the street and came back with a shot like that! How do you do it man?!? (jealous) :D
Gorgeous photo! I love how everything about this shot is so relaxed… the setting, her outfit, her hair, knitting! Perfect image to start out the weekend.
Absolutely amazing shot. I feel like I say that often, but there are a few that really speak volumes. Something about the bangs and the barefeet, with her bag and shoes tossed to the ground…
I go to Savannah College of Art and Design and love looking at all the different styles people have down here. I've been thinking that it'd be a cool place for you to come shoot so it's great to see that you have!
Very Georgia. The Vans (or similar) give it away. I wore my yellow Vans to NYC with a 50's style floral dress…many double takes on my shoes and many puzzled expressions. Van's are classic down here.
The Longchamp bag and Keds are summer essentials down here. What a great shot! I'm so glad you came to Savannah…it was amazing to get to meet you. Meeting you + Bill Cunningham documentary = best Scad Style week EVER
What a wonderful picture. I've been knitting all my life and absolutely love anyone who can just knit happily away regardless of what is going on around them.
Such a casual kick back look, which reminds me of summer…leisurely knitting, shoes off, relaxing. And let's not forget to mention her amazing HAIR! She has tons of it, the heavy fringe is awesome, natural highlights and beachy wave. She looks relaxed and happy. Great photo!
This is simply beautiful! The knitting, the hair, the shoes tossed next to the navy bag – it's breathtaking. Reminds me of Kate Middleton's dress today at the royal wedding. Perfection!
women? child? kitten? :) I found myself touched by this photo. by this almost faceless women absorbed in a sort of 'ancient' action of making cloths, making fashion. for whom is she knitting? is there anyone outside her bubble world?
just classic, clean and neat navy & khakis, and my fav color green needles clinched it for me- Spring! though i Am nervous for the Longchamp placed onto the brick- how i've wished those [my] bags had feet! :)
I love her totally. Look at those cute feet, LOL! She seems like a very cool laid back chick. Her look is simple but very stylish for sure. And as always, great photos of interesting people. Keep up the fantastic work.
Finally!! Creativity in someone's hands! It's the essence of fashion and displays of it is why I love your site.
…Which is why I never understood why you find smart phones to be so stylish in people's hands! Why do they continue to be so fashionable when on display? They should be kept in pockets and handbags. There are so many better things people can be holding and looking at.
Let's see more ice cream cones, letters, and knitting needles in the hands of your subjects. I want to see smart phones fall off the fashion pedestal!
This photo should be titled, "Quiet Beauty in Repose".
I love any person under age 40 who can sit quietly and do something that doesn't involve an electronic device. Love the fact that in 2011, there is not a single electronic device anywhere in sight. This automatically makes her interesting to me.
She exudes effortless style. Love the folded up khakis, her bag is awesome, her Keds are the perfect casual, summer shoe for a woman; and all 3 meld together perfectly as the epitome of casual summer style.
Love that she is a new knitter–experts wind the skein into a ball first, to check for knots–but right out there, proud to show her new skill. Oh, and she wears what is simple, neat, and comfortable. She has the gift of lack of self-consciousness.
ARE YOU STILL IN SAVANNAH? Tonight is the SCAD photo department student show, Silver & Ink! The show is at the River Club by Bay St and MLK. If you're still in town, please come! We all love you're work, it'd be awesome if you came!
Wow, great Scott, …wait that's not right, uhm great shot Scott. You are creating beautifully composed works of art. My heart expands as I look at this one…and now I understand part of the reason- there are no vertical or horizontal lines!- except for the table in the right hand corner that creates the grounding and look how the colour of that important area brings out the focus of her shirt. And there's more going on! You have wonderful artistic intuition. Wonderful.
I'm so glad you have posted recent photos of style in the south. I am from Virginia and go to college in South Carolina as a Retail major, and there is such a wonderful and growing appetite for style here! Atlanta, Charleston, and Savannah are all decadent cities worthy of your documentation. Thank You! This girl is a perfect example of relaxed but elegant southern style!
Hey Scott, I commented already, however, I believe I may have forgotten to type in the word verification. Ooops. I just wanted to say that I am quite enjoying the direction you are taking. I was awed by the balance and dynamic composition of this piece. "The bold and simple colour repetition, the spatial gradient of hue, the mystery of the hidden eyes. What impresses me the most is that there are no vertical or horizontal lines except for the grounding shape of the table in the top right, which also accents the central focus of the brown shirt." (quote I made on your photo on facebook) Your talent is unmistakable. I am quite looking forward to watching it develop. Jacob Tolmie
I'm a knitter and love that you've caught the relaxed concentration of the craft. Her eyes to hands to toes tell a story. I wonder what she is knitting with those big needles…
everything about this photo is perfect…her hair, her clothing, her attitude, and the fact that she is knitting. Love love love this! latitudegalaxy@blogspot.com
Knitting in black when you can't see the wool through your hair – that's impressive! I like the way her feet look like she has been doing something. Good pic.
Totally my style ! And what I like the most about the shoot is that she's knitting. I mean, it's so cool and I find it refreshing to see that you don't have to smoke to look cool on street style pics ;).
this has got to be one of my favorite photos in a REALLY long time. Did you really find her just sitting there like that, or did you pose her? I keep on going back just to stare at this picture. She looks so laid back, yet so crisp and clean. But what really does it is her hair with the rest of the colors. Simplistic and neutral, yet sooo pretty and feminine. ahhhh,
Love your photos. This picture reminds me of myself waiting for class to start. These photos in Savannah are gorgeous, love your photography! Those khaki pants are great too, i've been searching for a pair like that for a while!

April 30, 2011 at 2:57 pm
Hey Scott, I commented already, however, I believe I may have forgotten to type in the word verification. Ooops. I just wanted to say that I am quite enjoying the direction you are taking. I was awed by the balance and dynamic composition of this piece. "The bold and simple colour repetition, the spatial gradient of hue, the mystery of the hidden eyes. What impresses me the most is that there are no vertical or horizontal lines except for the grounding shape of the table in the top right, which also accents the central focus of the brown shirt." (quote I made on your photo on facebook)
Your talent is unmistakable. I am quite looking forward to watching it develop.
