The first one is a slim fit tee, yo ucan find them anywhere in Europe, got a purple one from Zara the other day. The second one is soooo cleverly draped!
2 key elements to a plain white t-shirt, it has to fit the shoulders (like his does) and it has to be of substantial weight to smooth over chest hair and nipples (like hers doesn’t and I expect we’ll see more postings on that). It is a great look if that all pieces of the outfit are basic, well constructed, and well-fitted. I adore those persols and may have to buy me a pair soon! Jorge from W Palm Beach
i think the cortina shot was on mens style, no? i love the length of the tee, it ever so subtlely hits the top of the pants. the photo of the girl is great – formal pleated wool trousers with a plain white t – its a great juxtipostion.
I don’t think I really like Muscles Magee, on the top. He looks too James Dean-ish. I men’s trousers on the young lady, below, though. It’s cute. Is she wearing a head band?
My favorite post of the gentleman, who pretty much defines basic accessories here and chooses them in perfect scale. When you wear a watch and carry a phone the watch becomes mainly an accessory and I’ve noticed a lot of people dispensing with them lately, but he knows better- the look needs the watch. Classic. The young woman looks just as classic in her own way. A simple outfit and her freshness is all she needs.
white t-shirt aside (yes, it’s fabulous), i love this girl’s pants!!! of course i am always looking for inspiration for my own personal style, and these are pants that i think even girls without perfect long and skinny barbie legs can wear! unless… will a big booty mess them up?? oh, the laments of a pear-shaped lady…
No wardrobe should ever be without one of these! Sean John (believe it or not) makes a GREAT version … high quality cotton, slim in the midsection, tapered at the sleeve, and comes three to a pack … im wearing one under my biker jacket now :-)
i feel like the white tee on the guy is too tight for his age. the woman pulls it off perfectly. they both embody the simplicity and beauty of a white tee.
The top photo demonstrates that fit is everything. The outfit is exactly what my 83 year old dad wears to the breakfast table. It looks better on this guy. :-)
both their outfits are so simple but it’s that sense of confidence they’re exuding that really makes their look. especially the girl. she seems so effortlessly well put-together.
His looks Too Small, or Dryer-shrunken, not “tailored.” Looks like the ones my father used to have to throw away after too many years of use. Nothing elegant about it. It’s ‘okay’ across the chest, but the arms are too “too,” as if he’s just too vain about his arms. Sorry. I’ve loved just about everything else i’ve seen him in. The pants are great. And, Persols. Why no iPhone, though? What up with that?
She looks cute, but her shirt is unremarkable.
I have to strongly disagree with Jorge’s comment above. I see no need to “smooth over” a woman’s nipples…. Nipples good.
Anon said, “In both pictures, the trousers are more remarkable than the tee.”
I’ve always seen that as the point of wearing a white t-shirt (or a white button-down.) The simplicity allows the other elements of your outfit and you accessories to stand out more. I agree with Dan in Richmond that the watch is a pivotal part of his look. The sunglasses (Persol I believe) serve the same purpose. In both photos they demonstrate an ability to use a classic piece to build a great look. Well done Sart.
I once heard the line “the best style accessory is to be fit.” I really think this is true. The reason such a simple look works for that guy is that he is in great shape.
Style is about looks, and fitness is an integral part of that. We all have different body types that we have to work with, but why not make your style choices more flexible by remembering the above line.
she looks effortless, i think it works. i’m not sure that it’s such a good thing on him… maybe less of the ‘gun show’ and a more of an understated fit on the guy. not diggin it with those pants, is that wrong?
I hope this comment is not too racy. What makes the look for the woman is the hint of nipple. It changes the look from sweet to sexy. Scott, I apologize if you feel this comment is inappropriate.
That’s odd; just this morning in college I was envying a girl who had on a very similar pair of pinstriped trousers. She kind of resembled the girl in the picture too. Paired with the white T-shirt it looks great – smart and simple but also fresh and interesting.
I’m not altogether keen on the guy’s outfit, though – just a little too tight IMHO, it comes across as kind of narcissistic rather than effortless.
Thanks to Jorge, ben schmidt, and ck dexter haven for interrogating the term “tailored” here. Neither shirt looks tailored to me, but they fit all right in the ways their wearers seem to desire. I, too, think a little more nipple coverage would enhance the woman’s look–this look is more for the beach.

That top look is classic Brando, right down to the slightly high waisted cut of the trousers. For the film version of Streetcar Named Desire they altered a shirt and shrank it to his form before shooting- they did not manufacture fitted tees at the time.
Yet another person wearing the classic Persol 614 sunglass. I’m going to start referring my clients to this site. The they will see first hand how effortless and cool that particular sunglass is.
The beautiful young lady and handsome gentleman are both spectacular looking in their sleek white tees. It’s their very presence that draws me in– not what they’re wearing: You can’t hide behind the stark simplicity of a white tee. Nothing to do with fashion, just pure style and confidence.
And your composition is awesome sir! Your uncanny ability to capture that one perfect fleeting moment in time that defines the your subject’s style is always inspiring.
With the jacket on, I think the look would be more complete… possibly negating the “too tight comments” or what not for the gentleman… For the beautiful woman, I think that the t-shirt is perfect. Nipples in Paris won’t raise anyone’s eyebrows.

So effortless! Two of my wardrobe staples- a plain slim-fitting white tee and a loose-fitting black trouser. I am interested to see what shoes she’s wearing though.
Could his t-shirt be any shorter and tighter?:-) I don’t see anything special about his outfit. The girl, on the other hand, looks great. Love her pants.
