The shoes are the perfect tough of badass, and I love how they complete the look. But the scarf is what gets me – this girl took the time to dress herself completely in black, but then wrapped herself in a soft, white scarf before she left the house. I guess even the most empowered badass women out there want something soft to lean their head against.
I love everything about this photo, the neutral palette of the outfit as well as the background. Her hair cut is striking and adds boldness to the calm and powerful gaze.
I love all: hair, big scarf, maxipull, gloves and shoes. Maybe it’s a minority opinion, but I prefer photos of “ordinary” people or of people that seem not involved in the fashion business. Not completely perfect is better.
I agree totally! I love her look, and I like people who does not dress in designer clothes from head to toe, but use their own imagination. I love her hair, her gloves, the all black with a white maybe home made scarf. This is a great picture!
Incredible! I like the whole look….especially her scarf, and her bold hair. Question- are those boots DIY? They almost look like Docs w/ platforms added. Interesting.
The awesomeness of this photo is the entire composition. I could stare at it for hours. The woman’s outfit (with the white knit scarf just popping out) contrasting with the darkness of the rest of her outfit and the street scene is just behind cool.
Dear Scott
your photos from Poland are soooo fresh, mysterious and less obvious that the others. I am looking forward to see more!!!
And you should come back to us very soon because our “wild” country stimulates your creativity !!!! :)
Typical European building. Love it. Stunning photo. Love it. Beautiful girl. Great outfit. Love it. Btw, she reminds me of Sinead O’connor.
Lona http://twig-in-pink.blogspot.ca
It’s outstanding to see pictures of people from my country in here. This mysterious fog in PoznaÅ„ sets great enviroments for photos. In addiction to some comments – it’s true that we have maaaaaaany beauties on the street, and fancy looking people, bur for sure (what I’ve observed) we are not pioneers in street-fashion style. The vast majority of girls (mostly) are copying one particular fashion look and don’t have their own peculiar style.
I hope some day you’ll be ale to visit Poland again!
Marta
I don’t mean this to come across as insulting, as it is merely a taste thing, but to me these Poland shots have been your most interesting and compelling in a long while. I just don’t enjoy seeing the same people of the fashion set over and over again, who have access to copious designer goods. These women you have depicted are striking, bold-looking, and working with pretty simple and accessible fashion. Love the shots!!
I LOVE the glimpse into Poland! I have never been there but really adore the Polish people that I know in America: intelligent, classy and pretty/handsome. Thank you for the window into the fashion of a place that I really don’t know.
Polish women are so interesting and intense in a very sexy way…..it doesn’t seem they try hard like so many other women u photograph,,,,it’s organic to them…i imagine u can have a conversation and it probably wouldn’t be about the latest shoe!!!
I’m impressed you went for the natural make up free women on your trip to Poland :-) still too many cover themselves in make up! Wish you had visited Warsaw – maybe next time?
I really like the pic. But what I appreciate the most is how your photos are a sort of eye-opener for me – how many different kind of beauty and creativity are out there. I agree with the comments that “ordinary people” shots are way more interesting – don’t get me wrong, I love me some Anna Dello Russo but I find the original street shots more inspirational. And, since I’m Polish, I’ll tell you that naturally Polish women are stylish in a very “unobvious” way although it’s true that many girls go for the trends and tend to be dressed in exactly the same clothes from the same shops but hey, they’ll get there eventually ;)
I really love the Poland series. The pictures you took there are in some way more real, more powerful, raw, strong. Maybe because of the grey sky, maybe because life is not always so easy in Poland, maybe because you pictured a different kind of people there. These pictures show that life is nog always great and people are not always happy. Great.
I beg to differ. Catherine has a point. The Poland pictures do seem to have a different kind of models in them; those young women are not the fashionistas Scott so often portrays. And life is not exactly the same as “anywhere else” – we still have a bit of catching up to do in some (not all) respects. :) I wouldn’t attribute the lack of grins to the lack od happiness though. :)
I agree. I think it would be better to derive from our distinctness rather than try to make our cities and lifes look like they do in west Europe. I like our grey environment, I hate to see all the buildings being painted in yellows and oranges and our postcommunist architecture destroyed.
Naturally stunning beauty! in a cold harsh setting with her intense gaze yet contrasted by the homey/cozy knits.
I love the focus point of the one flower button for a touch of femininity!
I adore this composition of many layers and Poland for it’s perfect background! Thank you
