Scott you are killing me! I already wanted to be old, now I am obsessed with it. I love their classic outdoors inspired look, this is my favorite style of all time. Sooner or later, polyester, lurex, liquid leggings, black lace, see through leggings, slashed fabrics. etc will all fade into obscurity, but good wools always remain.
OK, so her off-kilter plaid is highlighted by the off-kilter belt on the perfect jeans worn with the perfect shoe; all brand new, clearly. And his pant length echoes hers, and his checked scarf echoes hers… and it all reads like it took several hours and a stylist or two to put together…but SO WHAT! They look absolutely dee-vine!!
groovy couple heh!! i love the way she wears her belt because i wear mine like this sometimes, the shoes and jeans and shirt are so cool, so simple, wonderful. His scarf – yummy x
What a perfect couple – if they are a couple. I hope they are :) She looks fantastic, the entire outfit itself is totally androgynous, even her short hair, but she still looks like a very happy woman. And he just looks like a fun guy; his outfit is simple and comfy but it has that quirky scarf that really makes it his own.
To me they epitomize aging gracefully – learning how to be "older" but not "old."
they compliment each other so well that to see just one of them apart from the other would be like stopping a good movie halfway through. Particularly like how they pick up each other's looks through a bold patterned shirt and scarf.
@anonymus the first: ordinary? They are extraordinary. Did you have a look in their faces? But the short pants are too much in this case, I agree with fernando.
Photos such as these are a key as to why this blog is the terrific thing that it has become. We commonly think that style, fashionability and coolness are limited solely to the young, but really, the ability to do and to be all those things is limited only by what someone carries in their heads. I am a 50 year-old who loves clothing and the theatre of clothing as much as I ever did when I was a 20 year-old, but (like these people) I now have the advantage of a longer perspective and a continually evolving sense of how to present myself in the piazza of public life. Clothing and style are, after all, a continuously changing repose to our evolving sense of the self and the larger culture that surrounds us. It is how we mediate between the fantasies and the realities of our existence. Thank you, again, Scott. I love every picture and await many more which have yet to come.
Great looks on both of them…together and separately. love the short length pants and especially the sockless brogues on her. I gotta get some of those!!! Thanks Scott!
Everything in this picture is great! the place, the couple, the age, the clothes, the elegance, the combination of all of the above… It is the triumpn of classical style above fashion. Ahh… and about the shoes? they are splendid!
Just gorgeous. I sent to my husband and said that i hope this is us in 20 years. The thing he loved the most are the high waters. They both have on beautiful shoes. And, they both look healthy, stylish and beautiful.
I don't care who they are or whether they were able to spot Adrian Greiner riding his bicycle with his arse half hanging out… these two are magnificent and a breath of unpretentious fresh air. They are being themselves and take casual to a refined and chic level. They both complement each other perfectly. More like them and less Edith Piafs, please.
To be honest I haven't commented here for years now. However, I just couldn't past this one up. This is truly timeless. I love seeing older ladies/gents pull effortless class. Who ever said style had to do with AGE!
Hmmm . . . interesting to read the comments . . . I'm probably nearer their age than most commentators and what I really DON'T like the way they are trying SO hard while pretending not to . . . everything is VERY considered . . . What's so wrong with caring how we look !?! Does this make sense ?
now this is what i'm talkin' about! if you want short trousers, my fellow whippersnappers, learn from yer elders and have the guts to cut them off instead of rolling them up in fear the trend might not last…;-))
very cool btw. both of them. they're perfect accessories for each other…har har
I'm closer to this couples age that the typical "model" on this blog. Its odd to me how any time you have a pix of someone "older" everyone comments on their age, its so… ageist.
Are the younger readers here really surprised that someone over 40 can pull things together? Why is their age always mentioned? I've loved fashion since I was a little girl and I always will.
My mom is 83 and she has a wonderful style that is all her own, always has had it and I can't imagine why anyone would think that would change as she got older.
Anyhow they are a cute couple, casual, effortless. I do think his pants are a shade short but I've been seeing that more and more on these pages.
oh my gosh! What a gorgeous couple!! And as one of your readers commented – it makes me look forward to aging a bit… if I could look this chic. Wow! (And I too, am in love with her entire outfit!!)
The problem with tight, too short pants is that they make feet look too big. But the designers are thinking well ahead of the consumers on this——they know that when highwaters are declared "out", all the current devotees will toss theirs and buy new things. How nice for the industry! Pants that ill fitting will never be classics.
Everytime I feel like commenting on your blog, I accidentaly read the other comments, and then remember how they ruin the picture for me.
I love how casual they are, how androgenous and how well they go together as a couple. I don't care if they took all day to get dressed or if his pants will be "out" next week (whatever that means). It's the perfect couple and I enjoyed being able to see them through your photo.
I like the fact that she pulled her shirt and belt to the side….different. Everybody is excited about this being an older couple so stylish….well we have to keep in shape if we want to look somewhere close to this…. great style.
I love it when couples have complementary fashions. Probably without even realizing they do. Without trying. Effortless, elegant and casual all at the same time. Great capture.
Then there are those who go overboard by wearing matching outfits, or exact color schemes.
Loved the blurred image of the guy on the bicycle too.
These two are healthy, happy, have great style and are undoubtedly quite dedicated to being physically fit – and somehow I'm betting yoga and cycling. Now, as for your readers, so many foolish, pathetic, ageist comments. This lovely pair are not Methuselah and his wife. Honestly, must everyone be focused on being a teenager? RELAX! Example – Sting looks far better and sexier now than ever before.
Does anyone else see the resemblance to Woodward & Newman? Except, she reminds me of Paul Newman and he's more Joanne Woodward (in a good way of course).
Oh my gosh… you are killing me, too. This is all about the woman! She wears it all so well. And the hair! Love love love love. So classic! Real echoes of the menswear look that Garance has been pulling off. A huge fan. I'm off to cut my hair short tomorrow and so this gives me an added boost of confidence as well.
I am fifty too – and just the fact that The Sart is my homepage shows that I am as obsessed with clothes as I ever was! As others have said, why the hell not?! Why is it such a surprise? have we really become SO youth- obsessed that we can't see that youthful beauty will always disappear, but style lasts forever? It is artistic expression and an enjoyment of colour, texture, shape and proportion… beautiful things…as well as a distillation of how you present yourself to the world. It's also FUN, so why would one want to give it up just as onegains more confidence at it? Scott – you have always had older people on your pages and unexpected people of all types and that is one of the many reasons you have been so refreshing and so successful. I salute you xx
other than how fantastic their styles compliment each other… I am in looove with this photo..I would like to see more photos like these please :) AND ones with animals too!!!!
style is not about age (for those of you who included age in your comments)….
no matter how old one is: either you have style or you do not. it is inherent in one's personality, not their chronology.
anyway, this picture is delightful…i would love to have his slacks…looking for khaki's with a cuff for women…and i have ordered a pair of oxford's from steve madden….as a tribute to beautiful her…
old? ha, you're all going to get old…but are you stylish?
Ahhhh, I LOVE THIS. I rarely feel inspired to comment but I'm sorry as a 21 year old girl fretting about turning 22, this definitely put things into perspective! They look KILLER! So inspiring!
I am so happy to see them here…whoever knows well fashion industry ( with this i mean sales, which is working and "aging" and not the front-row- or pr-under-world) knows them, and appreciates the unusual kindness, education and simpleness of this great couple. anyway, sart, i miss so hard your pictures of "normal" people. I can go down in the street on my own, if I want to see a 40 years old woman, dressed in lggings and with 13 cm heels…. or somebody with the latest fendi or gucci or marni stuff…
Oh, what a handsome woman! I love her rosy cheeks and boyish style, and the fact that she seems totally comfortable in her skin (and outifit). Although his look is a little more ordinary, he still looks like he makes an effort and they look lovely together.
They're just lovely–unpretentious, stylish, and happy. And it's wonderful to see a woman standing straight and tall, confident and strong, while posing!
I just love his outfit. He looks simple and cool. classic and stylish. The touch of the short hems is even cooler on a man over the 50's, and the thick scarf wrapped around the neck completely makes the different!!!
Trim, sexy, rich… in Paris with a great-looking woman by his side – I might look a little “smug” too. And, oh, he’s NOT trying too hard with the scarf. If he’s European – this is just second nature to him. He’s not trying at all.
Yes, it might be Roy Dantendorfer – (the name) “stands for most elegant men and womenâs fashion. Best quality material and outstanding manufacture guarantee satisfaction even for highest demands. You will find classic models for every occasion and trendy fashion, as well as sports and leisure clothing.” Now, tell me again, how he’s trying too hard…

This is an incredible example of androgeny worn by both a man and a women. I see androgenous style far more often worn by women.
Also, androgeny is hard to meld so smoothly with such timeless style often it's more outrageous, gender-bending and angst-y.
I'd love to see this couple swap outfits completely! I bet they'd still both look amazing.

The problem with tight, too short pants is that they make feet look too big. But the designers are thinking well ahead of the consumers on this——they know that when highwaters are declared "out", all the current devotees will toss theirs and buy new things. How nice for the industry! Pants that ill fitting will never be classics.
Her pants will be wearable pretty much forever.

Wow – they both look super, although I'm starting to grow weary of the whole scarf thing.

I salute you xx

style is not about age (for those of you who included age in your comments)….
no matter how old one is: either you have style or you do not. it is inherent in one's personality, not their chronology.
anyway, this picture is delightful…i would love to have his slacks…looking for khaki's with a cuff for women…and i have ordered a pair of oxford's from steve madden….as a tribute to beautiful her…
old? ha, you're all going to get old…but are you stylish?
54 and proud of it…oh, and looking stylish

I am so happy to see them here…whoever knows well fashion industry ( with this i mean sales, which is working and "aging" and not the front-row- or pr-under-world) knows them, and appreciates the unusual kindness, education and simpleness of this great couple. anyway, sart, i miss so hard your pictures of "normal" people. I can go down in the street on my own, if I want to see a 40 years old woman, dressed in lggings and with 13 cm heels…. or somebody with the latest fendi or gucci or marni stuff…
