For men, there’s a way to wear color that doesn’t scream “I’m wearing color!”

This image from Paris is a great example.

Tomorrow I’ll have another great example, this time from Milan.

This is really a masterpiece…Amazed by how maroon and purple nested with each other under orange coat..Orange is a very noble color !

Well done, and its fascinating how well this orange goes with the rest of his purple/maroon ensemble.

love how this guy stands out in such a subtle way and his ability to wear three different shades of red without looking like a harlequin.

I love the use of texture and monochromatics to really tie it all together! It’s so youthful, but very sophisticated.

It screams “colour” in relation to what the men wear in Canada.

(And to be clear: I love this man’s outfit.)

Most men in Canada do not have a clue how to dress. And I am from Toronto.

Wish you could have gotten him to stand with the blue and green coats in the background. Each cool alone, but together would have been great!

Agree great example but it does not represent my style, for a man I prefer basic color and eventually colored accessories

While I do adore the overall look, I am just not a fan of a man wearing so much color. Although the proportions, the textures and silhouettes are perfect. XOXO

What makes it really great is how he managed to mix lavender into the outfit. Color magician.

Beautiful color association! It looks very good on him, but I could also imagine a woman wearing the exact same outfit!

Though it’s a nice color combo, something about the lumpy fit of that shirt irks me.

  34. Monsieur Marcel

    March 5, 2013 at 5:32 pm

The coat is just the right tone, not garish; any brighter, and it would be a safety garment.

He looks great, but some of us would have a hard time pulling that off. His youth helps.

If this doesn’t scream color, I don’t know what does. And the no socks screams foolish.

  41. Rupert

    March 5, 2013 at 10:26 pm

I beg to differ. If this doesn’t scream “I’m wearing color”, I don’t know what does. It’s a bit much for me.

I like men in colour. It shows effort! Especially when it looks as good as this. It’s a also fresh.

The older men in Venice and Florence do not seem afraid of colour. I have seen emerald green, and bright yellow corduroy pants, and bright red coats. The world got very black and grey for quite some time. Possibly we shall go back to colour.

this guy has style..a perfect example of what style is..
    in theory – all wrong
    in practice-he pulls it off
his stance is great also- full on facing us, brazen in his confidence!
and i love how the texture of the jumper reflects the stone pillars.
oh how i love the ridiculousness of fashion!

  48. Mark W.

    March 6, 2013 at 11:46 am

Nice shot but not feeling the orange coat…that sweater seems a bit too bulky for this outfit. Subject has a great stance though.

  49. Robert

    March 6, 2013 at 1:29 pm

True style seldom screams but there is no denying that fashion can be ridiculous and, when reduced to that, jeopardizes ones credibility. When you assess the total picture here– it’s a very silly get up for a young man.

I totally agree. The color combination is great if you are in the papal Swiss Guard.

The color combination works great — if you are in the papal Swiss Guard.
    Otherwise it looks ridiculous.

  54. Tim

    March 9, 2013 at 10:14 am

Can anyone tell me the brand of the sweater?

  55. Digby Jones

    March 14, 2013 at 9:12 am

The loafers completely throw off the look! The gentleman would have been much better off investing in Crockett & Jones Footwear- Chelsea, Chukka, or Monk.

  56. Digby Brian

    March 14, 2013 at 9:33 am

Furthermore, the white shirt doesn’t work and looks very untidy outside the pants. A brown color scheme (shirt tucked in) would have really pulled the look together.

  57. Florentin Bodet

    March 15, 2013 at 7:53 pm

The pink sweater on this white shirt is a good choice worn with the bordeaux pants. Like Tim asked, do you know the brand of the sweater ?
