Love these monochromatic layers with the simple black accents with the collar and shoes. A very current outfit, but with a timeless appeal. Superb shot.
Love this girls style! Showing off the menswear inspiration in womenswear, Love all the white! Love the contrast with the graffiti in the back as well! http://anarkalilovesme.blogspot.ca/
what a beautiful outfit! the wild hair and dress opposed to the white and pure sweater, the black of the shoes with the black of the sweater border… looks at same time arty and very simple. and the contrast with the wall makes it look even better.
thanks scott for your talent.
To me, she is part of the background, she looks like she is ready to get in the car (or coming out ?) Lately, I’ve been more interested by the composition of the photos than the style of the people, although I like what this young woman is wearing but it’s not essential to the photo.
Great comment. She matches perfectly with the scene in the background. Her fantastic wavy hair looks like a graffiti scribble. There are many layers with various shades of white: her layered white outfit against the backdrop of the white wall. Nice photo
There is truth in that. But thinking about it, she adds quite a nice layer to the composition. Somehow she just fits the background. And that is a compliment to her.
Love the background mixed with the monochromity of her look. It shows that you are a real talent when it comes to capturing people in the perfect surroundings! http://madrilicious.com
Fantastic shot~
With all that white she looks like an urban angel!
Love the black details of the collar and shoes~
And the simplicity of the overall outfit~
I love the optimism of wearing an all-white ensemble. If you look at old vintage photos, you will see a sea of people wearing all-white. So refreshing. People hardly today wear white in the same way. Jeans are probably the contemporary ‘white.’ Don’t you think?
MB; What an interesting thought. Yes, people used to wear white in the summer almost as a uniform. I wonder why we no longer do this. Perhaps white no longer suits our more cynical outlook. As you say, its a very innocent vibe.
Great point. Fashion does reflect the state of mind (personally and collectively). And yes, we are a cynical bunch these days. However, there is often a point when fashion and the arts shift away from representing our current state and move towards where we want to be (as an escape, I suppose). Right now we are cynical, but more than every before, the colours now are exceedingly bright – and we are combining them in creative ways. As such, I suspect we will be seeing more optimistic and peaceful white on the streets. (goodness knows we need optimism, peace, and innocence). We’ve been seeing quite a bit of white on white here on this site.
I like her sense of color, and the simplicity and minimalism of the look. However, the whole outfit is too billowy for me. I’m always of the opinion, that at least one item must be fitted. If your top is billowy, then your skirt should be fitted. If your skirt is billowy, then your top should be billowy. The way she is, it’s billowy all around, and hides her shape.
Finally. Back to the true street style of NY. Getting so tired of all the over-studied looks of the fashion crowd you’ve been shooting lately. Not interested in the fashion insiders.
Wow, an empty sidewalk in NYC? And it’s such a nice wall, it weirdly complements the girl’s look pretty well. I just think that the sillouette is not the most flattering, it’s got something sort of pre-natal about it. It’s so wide, comparing to her skinny legs.
But maybe that’s just me! http://captivelouise.wordpress.com/
I love this one, particularly contrasted with the photo of Paris a few below. I think it’s because I spend my life straddled between Europe and North America, and am trying to decide whether to move over to Europe to live permanently with my boyfriend, that this catches me. I’ve always been attracted to the sort of broody elegance of parts of Europe, but what I’d miss the most about being in North America is the freshness, the openness and vibrancy that comes from being in a place with more space, more of a frontier mentality, etc. I know that New York isn’t a frontier, per se, but just look at the loose freshness of her outfit, her comfortable shoes, open, wavy hair, and then look at the stilettos and the studied chicness of the photo below. Oh and coupling her whites with the wall graffitti is brilliant – great photo.
What I love most about this photo is actually the graffiti in the background. Graffiti is almost always an eye sore, with swear words and rival gangs plastering over the same area again, and again. In this photo you managed to capture the graffitied wall in a way that makes it look like art.
