Besides the fact that her bag is bigger than her (which is a bit endearing, isn’t it?) I love this look. She looks great especially for a rainy day! Her accessories really make the outfit.
I like this narrow silhouette. Initially, I reacted to the red bag as being too big, but then I decided it was a cool proportion. I like that it’s so giant, juxtaposed with her dainty red shoes.
The voluminous scarf is a nice counterpoint to all that narrow black and the punctuation of the red.
Wow, it’s intriguing to see that women don’t care about the rain at all and wear what ever they like. I’m not so sure if I would have chosen the beautiful shoes in the rain :-)
Her bag and shoes really pop against the rained pavement in this pictures – love it! Also love the skinny jean combo too (don’t care if they are on the way out).
Wonderful composition. I love the soft look of the scarf tied around the t-neck. And the red on red (is that a Blackberry she is holding against the red bag?)
The skinny jeans look is nailed here. She looks confident and comfortable.
I don’t know what’s wrong with me (maybe there isn’t after all…), but I don’t like high heels! Her feet look sore, and her legs would look equally nice in a pair of flats. Now that’s that said once and for all, eh?
She looks hotsietot, our word for Fab! Watch out for the puddles. I’m so a couterintuitive shoe person and often go out on a raiy day with the wrong/right shoes. Just like this.
Ho, hum. I wholeheartedly agree with anon 1:57 – this is the most overdone combo around (even down to the way she’s tied her scarf). The bag is cute, yes – the shoes nice too. But even here in not-always-fashion-forward Toronto, I’ve seen this exact look a million times.
Love it. Sigh… I love shoes, especially this pair! I think this kind of outfit always looks good, and gorgeous shoes in bright colors will go a long way toward that.
In first time you see a girl in jeans and a blazer, but suddenly your eyes stop at the beautiful red bag and those wonderful shoes, and all your previous vision is completely different
Of couse Sart, I agree with you. ‘Fashion forwarded’ shots are cool, but the nice thing about the sartorialist is that you can find ordinary people that aren’t suposed to strike you, but if you look carefully, you’ll always find a twist here and there…
She looks great. It is always difficult to look wonderful in the rain but she does!!! The neutral navies and greys are punched up with the big red bag and the red shoe accents. She reminds me of Audrey Hepburn.
her jeans fit her well…i don’t personally think skinny jeans will ever be “out”…they’re just one of those things that are more popular at one point and then something else becomes more dominant…but they’re still always there in the background, waiting for someone to start the trend again in a new way
plus wide leg pants aren’t that practical for me, i’m 5 feet tall, i’ll always love my skinnies
Gorgeous shot, Sart! Dark, wet pavement is always so photogenic and the big, red bag in the center of the photo is so beautiful…I don’t know how else to put this…my eyes are very happy. hahaha.
I like the outfit. It is not an androgynous look, but it is similar in tone–simple, polished, put together–to the way some men dress. The scarf and sunglasses complete the outfit and who knows, weather can change.
She looks to be oblivious to the dreariness around her – I’m liking the look of optimism. :) I’m also drawn to how these trendy items don’t give her the look of a victim – she makes them her own. Striking!
it’s cute, but her feet are probably cold, and such beautiful shoes will probably take a real beating in the rain, unless she doesn’t actually need to walk anywhere. i speak from experience… having almost ruined some favorite fabric-covered heels. even with off-and-on rain, you can’t control uneven pavement and puddles. i’m trying to stick to boots nowadays.

i love this look! i realize it’s not fashion forward, but i think i would be uncomfortable/made fun of if i wear some of the stuff you post because as much as i love it, it’s too edgy and would not work on a daily basis for a small-ish town like the one i live in. this kind of look is cute and fashionable without drawing too much attention. thanks!
To be quite honest she could shove me into that beautiful bag and I’d happily live my life in her shadow, so to speak. Obviously exaggerating, but what a beautiful woman and how well-dressed. Simple yet utterly gorgeous.
Re outfit: yes it has been done (to death) like others have said before, but it still looks nice so what does it matter? You can’t be groundbreaking everyday, right? ;)
On another note, keep up the good work with the the blog! Always fun to read ^_*
A beautiful girl. Surely a model too. I like her relaxed look. The big red bag is great. Surely it is also practical for all her stuff. The only thing that´s bothering me,is why the sunglasses are necessary on a rainy day? But maybe she want´s some privacy like celebs do!?
After viewing this image yesterday I was inspired to wear my heels (work shoes) home last night. Hopping off the bus and turning down my street I realized I wouldn’t want to wear my really nice shoes in the rain! Sure she looked great but those pretty shoes won’t last! Of course, she could be a “cab-girl” like I used to be when I first arrived in Gotham! I love my shoes, love, and will sacrifice the “look” for the duration of the journey to take care of them. Besides, there are some really fun and stylish “walking” shoes to buy. Half the fun of living here is walking!
She’s very cute and looks like she has a personality to back it up. I agree though, I see a lot of girls dressed like this…not to say that this particular one doesn’t look great doing it. However, a girl like this could probably pull off something much more forward and daring. I need to leave LA and go to NYC.
Mm, I especially love how she’s taken a run of the mill scarf and arranged it so that it appears to have an almost feather-like texture. She’s taken ordinary and turned it into something unique, so that, at a glance, you can’t quite put your finger on what sets her apart..
i’m not gonna read all the comments because i’m lazy, but i just don’t get why ppl seem to think big bags are odd. Bags should be the size you NEED them to be so that you can carry whatever you need to carry. I feel like the Big bag “trend” is old already. It’s just really practical for gals that need to be out all day for instance. And they can look really good (like any size of bag) if well designed. The girl in the picture looks apropriate and she’s a beautiful girl. Not too good not bad either. Just so for everyday life.
I don’t know why (maybe it’s the rain? her slim build? the way she ties her scarf? her lovely smile? the simple look well accessorized?) but she really puts me in mind of several Austrian girls I know.
her look is absolutely perfect, colour fit and form. the photo is near perfect, but it would’ve been if you had framed the girl a little more to the right, or just off center right.
The bag is the Chloe Edith Bowler and is hard to find since it goes back several seasons. I love it in this red color. I have it in the regular sized version in “jade”. Great bag!
I was talking on the phone scrolling through your pics. This made me stop and say out loud great picture. I think she looks amazing! You have got a great eye!
Well, even if you see the same combination from time to time in big cities (even here in Montreal, being one of those girls) I still think this is such a powerful and flattering look, it doesn’t matter if it’s not entirely original…!
I think her look is great! I just need to control instinctively squinting my eyes because the result is scary!! How boring to still read comments about how dated something looks. I find it amazing that there are still peaople who think that for something to look good it needs to be cutting-edge or ‘in fashion’; that’s not what style is about, thats what fashion victims are about.
Love it! grayish outfit with a splash of gorgeous red is divine. she’s got the body that will look good in everything, but her lovely genuine smile that make her look even more fantastic
To pres10514, I could fit a dozen fold-up umbrellas in that bag. That’s the magic of huge bags; they fit all the regulars plus umbrellas, a cardigan/sweater, a pair of flat shoes, a water bottle and lunch, books/magazines/work/laptop, hats and a small evening clutch, jewellery and top to change into. Oh and gym gear of course. A big bag takes the impossible out of being dressed well when there’s four seasons in one day and makes the wearer look tiny! God, I do love this bag so much. The look may have been done over a thousand times so more but this is such a perfect example of what every woman is striving for [yet not achieving]. I’m very impressed by her understated elegance. She doesn’t look like she’s trying hard to be noticed and fashion-forward but she’s just lovely as she is. And those shoes! I noticed them in a magazine last year I think… maybe longer ago. They’re so perfect. Crochet I think? I’m more and more in love with this picture every time I look at it.

I love the bag, and the shoes, but the sunglasses on top of her head are hard to love. They look like bug eyes. Her scarf is wonderful.
What throws me in this image, is the peep toe show and sunglasses on a rainy day. While most likely fine any other time, I think boots would have tied it all together better.
Yes for the lovely big bag! I bought into the stupid little purse idea for a while, but I am done with it. Honestly, bags are not for show only! Most of us have a lot stuff that we like to carry with us! I have folders, and a book to read, and sometimes my laptop or even a spare pair of flats if I wear heels. I like big bags, and I like how they look. I have no idea what people are thinking sometimes. I guess maybe there are some people of leisure who need only their credit card and sun glasses or whatever, but not normal women. And only a chimp brain carries an envelope tote. How totally uncomfortable to have to hold something in your hand every minute.

Love the coordination of colors. It’s not too perfect (or she would be trying too hard)but perfect enough (to say, oh, this ole thing!)
BTW, is she wearing stretch jeans?

I don’t know why (maybe it’s the rain? her slim build? the way she ties her scarf? her lovely smile? the simple look well accessorized?) but she really puts me in mind of several Austrian girls I know.

The bag is the Chloe Edith Bowler and is hard to find since it goes back several seasons. I love it in this red color. I have it in the regular sized version in “jade”. Great bag!

Well, even if you see the same combination from time to time in big cities (even here in Montreal, being one of those girls) I still think this is such a powerful and flattering look, it doesn’t matter if it’s not entirely original…!
What do you expect on a rainy day anyways? ;)
