Love that buttonhole detail on the lapel; it really pops nicely against all the dots, stripes, and ink.

Scott, your portrait shots are really something to be admired. They really make me wonder the story behind each person.

    Thanks for sharing,

An absolutely awesome picture. Love the way his mod tattoos and piecings offset an otherwise dapper look. Like a cooler Pete Doherty.

The MODERN dandy: an educated cultured well dressed painted work of art gentleman…..what the world needs more of! As opposed to the self absorbed narcissist metro sexual….his arch nemesis. Need I say more….

        No. They aren’t.

          March 19, 2014 at 5:49 pm

You don’t think a dandy is narcissistic and somewhat self-obsessed?

          • Rathe

            March 20, 2014 at 2:10 am

I don’t think this guy is a metrosexual. Let’s leave queer eye for the straight guy terminology back in 2003, deal?

Here is a fearless man, very comfortably mixing patterns, fabrics and tattoos. Very impressive and stylish. And that third eye above the tie knot !!! “He’s looking at you kid !”

i clicked on this pic not knowing that the guy would be so amazing with the ink and that dermal by his eye. i love all that, the whole culture of body art. this is someone i would definitely want to have coffee and convo with.

I really love the juxtapositions here: the beautiful, classic outfit, slicked back hair and clean-shaven face with the multiple, unusual piercings and tattoos. It’s a really beautiful image. And the tiny spots of rain on the lenses of his glasses add something, too. I don’t know what, but something.

Great Pic of James Quaintance, love that guy, great style & great hair…

While I think he is dressed very fine with a great mixture of prints, the tattoos and piercings totally distract from what he is wearing.

Love how the dotted collar looks against his tattoo. Great portrait!

Wow. Love the flow from the impeccable classic ensemble to the ink. He has clearly crafted himself as a work of art.

This combination of vest, shirt, and tie, perhaps because the contrasting collar has the heavy inking of the tattoo behind it, makes the whole area look vaguely like a neck brace. The fellow’s throat looks constricted. I understand that this man wants the world to know that he is free to mark and pierce his body — whatever he and his observers wish to take that to mean — but here I think we have a case of someone who cares about how he looks and the clothes he wears but who has made irreversible decisions that will forever limit what he can successfully carry and display. To say that I think he looks awful is beside the point; I question what HE will want to do in 20 or 30 years (assuming he is granted such a lifespan). Should he wish to move far away from the image he currently presents to the world, I think he may experience a far more profound constriction….

Ink & body mod of this magnitude is not something one gets on a whim… it’s a decision reflecting and arising from something significant within and about one’s self. Like all of us, he will change over time, but I sincerely doubt that he will wish to simply cast that self by the wayside 30 years from now. You may not understand, but there’s no need to project your own lack of comprehension onto him.

I don’t see confidence, I sense confusion. His eyes look sad.
Reminds me of the Beatles lyrics “got to be good-looking ’cause he’s so hard to see”.
There is an imbalance between inherent and expressed style.
    Don’t hide, handsome man!

    • Monsieur Marcel

      March 19, 2014 at 6:00 pm

With all due respect–I know you mean well–but there’s an imbalance between the song you’re referencing (“Come Together”… about acceptance) and your comment (a bit judgmental).

What a shame…. terrific outfit but the mucky skin decorations say “upstate NY unemployed AA dropout, aged 55″. He’ll be sorry. Cool? Nah.

As a photo this is great, as an ensemble this is also great. Outside the fashion/inner city hipster milieaux I imagine this man moves in, I would be nervous of a lifetime of misunderstanding and suspicion. I also wonder how one dresses down with neck and face tattoos – they look brilliant pushed up against sharp detailed formal tailoring, maybe not so good in a singlet and shorts on holiday…

I don’t get people’s obsession over if someone can or cannot work when heavily tattooed. I work in business and know some heavily tattooed people who are quite successful.

I love when people ask me how they will look when I am 80. Hell, I will probably look like everyone else at 80. Wrinkly with loose skin and I doubt I will care what my tattoos look like then.
