The MODERN dandy: an educated cultured well dressed painted work of art gentleman…..what the world needs more of! As opposed to the self absorbed narcissist metro sexual….his arch nemesis. Need I say more….
i clicked on this pic not knowing that the guy would be so amazing with the ink and that dermal by his eye. i love all that, the whole culture of body art. this is someone i would definitely want to have coffee and convo with.
I really love the juxtapositions here: the beautiful, classic outfit, slicked back hair and clean-shaven face with the multiple, unusual piercings and tattoos. It’s a really beautiful image. And the tiny spots of rain on the lenses of his glasses add something, too. I don’t know what, but something.
This combination of vest, shirt, and tie, perhaps because the contrasting collar has the heavy inking of the tattoo behind it, makes the whole area look vaguely like a neck brace. The fellow’s throat looks constricted. I understand that this man wants the world to know that he is free to mark and pierce his body — whatever he and his observers wish to take that to mean — but here I think we have a case of someone who cares about how he looks and the clothes he wears but who has made irreversible decisions that will forever limit what he can successfully carry and display. To say that I think he looks awful is beside the point; I question what HE will want to do in 20 or 30 years (assuming he is granted such a lifespan). Should he wish to move far away from the image he currently presents to the world, I think he may experience a far more profound constriction….
Ink & body mod of this magnitude is not something one gets on a whim… it’s a decision reflecting and arising from something significant within and about one’s self. Like all of us, he will change over time, but I sincerely doubt that he will wish to simply cast that self by the wayside 30 years from now. You may not understand, but there’s no need to project your own lack of comprehension onto him.
I don’t see confidence, I sense confusion. His eyes look sad.
Reminds me of the Beatles lyrics “got to be good-looking ’cause he’s so hard to see”.
There is an imbalance between inherent and expressed style.
Don’t hide, handsome man!
As a photo this is great, as an ensemble this is also great. Outside the fashion/inner city hipster milieaux I imagine this man moves in, I would be nervous of a lifetime of misunderstanding and suspicion. I also wonder how one dresses down with neck and face tattoos – they look brilliant pushed up against sharp detailed formal tailoring, maybe not so good in a singlet and shorts on holiday…
