Oh yea man! These 2 are totally cool. Especially the brunette, lovely pale skin, dark hair, cool shades, and great leather skirt! Very urban and effortless.
It’s a small detail but I like how the straps on her shoes mimic the design on her t-shirt.
I also like that the tone in her hair perfectly matches the tone of her sunglasses.
Probably none of this was thought out but the end result makes it stylish…
Princesses on Prince street !
Beautiful girls in great outfits with very different styles, showing enough skin (they sure can !). I miss the City tremendously…sigh…..
By the way Scott, I am completely addicted to your work.
When I say City, it can be any of the stylish ones, of course.
This photo is a great little example of what this blog, as a whole, does best: showing very different people who are all beautiful and stylish in their own ways.
This is fantastic because of the ricochet effect of black and white – I literally follow the colour trail back and forth between the two. It’s colour yin and yang – blonde vs. brunette, black vs. white.
oh i love how the cross straps on the back of the blonde girl’s dress are mirrored on the t-shirt of her friend!i love details like that in a photo:) they both wear similar cool sandals…nice
Yeah, they’re pretty but the picture composition is most intriguing… it’s hard to distinguish who is standing in front of who as they’re positioned so flatly beside each other; no emphasis on either… both equally beautiful. Not to mention the perfect harmony of colours happening there… cool shot, Scott.
This pictures made a little Paula Abdul pop in my head, “and opposites attract!”
Really beautiful front vs back, light vs dark composition!
x http://www.iloveublank.blogspot.com
I know this will sound really shallow but I would really have loved this photo if she wasn’t wearing that particular skirt!
Obvs not your fault Sart, still a great image!
As much as I miss the trashy, fun, vintage clothes only downtown NYC, I love this contrast. Elegant blonde and funky brunette and both look absolutely beautiful. Thank you, again sartorialist.
Yes it is Robert Mapplethorpe. Auto Portrait (with gun). from 1983.
One of Robert’s most impressive shoots. The way she is carrying the shirt, short like in the 80′s 90′s with sandals and that leather high skirt, just divine. Delicatessen!
These girls were posted on another blog this week, in different shots but with the same clothing. Do you guys hire models to snap? That’s so lame. There are so many distinct types of style and beauty in NYC, that I find it sad that you would pose somebody on purpose,to satify your own aesthetic tastes, instead of taking shots of real people doing real things. Poo. Is anything real and genuine anymore?
I love the top with it’s great print and the dress on the left is cool and effortless. I think that the leather skirt doesn’t flatter her narrow figure though, maybe because of the cut.
Funny to see those two girls checking our a menu, since it doesn’t look like they overeat…
I love the skirt! I want that skirt! That said AMAZING photo! The juxtaposition of the cool elegant blond, the vivacious edgy brunette, the straps of the dress echo the lines of the t shirt( love the t shirt too btw!!!!!) the dark and the light alternating. The equal emphasis on both lovely girls. The really fantastic sandals. I could go on. And on!! So Ill just say amazing photo.
To the proud mom of the girl of the right; It is clear by the way your daughter carries herself that she has accomplished many goals and will do more. All in excellent style!
@ Jessica, the fact that someone else took a photo of the same girls dressed the same way sort of proves that they are not models, but just very well dressed girls that capture peoples attention. Did you think that Scott hired them, and then some other blogger also hired them the same day? Not much logic going on in your head, huh.
I am absolutely in love with this photo. It’s so New York. Love the high waist and the cropped tee. It’s something that is really taking over. The open back dress is just divine.
Beautiful, beautiful!!
Love those pants, love the simple shoes…and it’s so nice to see open backs – sexy without being vulgar! Lovely summery urban look!
A compliment first to you as photographer, every time you impress us with the way you capture spontaneous moments from people in the street. Many times those pictures are so inspiring in a fashion stand point. People in general are beautiful, and you know how to capture in your photos their best natural expression.
One thing I noticed in this picture, these two fashionable ladies are wearing a very different style. However, both are wearing one piece in common..YES, those adorable gladiator sandals. A classic fashion item that now days become a necessity in every woman’s wardrobe.
cbgb’s sells john varvatos and dear robert is turned into…a fashion t-shirt. remove the threat and sell it at a high price. “rock edge” !?!?!?!? oh nyc, we weep sometimes, we really really do. one big superficial catwalk.
2 young women and not a tattoo in sight. Gotta love that.
The front zip leather skirt in the summer does nothing for me. Aside from looking uncomfortably warm, it also looks like it’s on backwards.
The blonde’s dress might be the sexiest thing I’ve seen a woman wear, in a long, long time. Granted, can’t see the front, but I love that she’s pretty covered up, just doling out the sexiness in small doses.
The blond has the most beautiful back I’ve ever seen and thin laces on it look so ease and just perfect. I desperately want to see the dress (and the girl of course) in front.

I am absolutely in love with this photo. It’s so New York. Love the high waist and the cropped tee. It’s something that is really taking over. The open back dress is just divine.
Great catch!

My .03
2 young women and not a tattoo in sight.
